Google’s CFO Claims Motorola’s Products Lack The “Wow” Factor

Googles CFO Claims Motorolas Products Lack The Wow FactorMany speculated that with Google acquiring Motorola Mobility that they would be using their new acquisition to churn out phones of their own. Lately there have been rumors of such a device which has been tentatively named the X Phone. However as it stands, it seems that Google hasn’t been too impressed with the products in Motorola’s pipeline and this surprising admission was made by Google’s own CFO and SVP, Patrick Pichette during the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference. According to Pichette, the products in Motorola’s pipeline were “not really to the standards that what Google would say is wow — innovative, transformative.”

According to Pichette, Google has inherited 18 months of pipeline which is surprising as some had thought that maybe the Droid RAZR MAXX, RAZR M and RAZR HD were the last of Motorola’s products without Google’s hand in it. In fact some have gone as far as to speculate that it might be possible that the rumored X Phone could be further away than we think. Rumors have suggested that the X Phone could be debuting at Google I/O 2013, but based on this admission, we wouldn’t be completely surprised if the X Phone gave the event a miss. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information, but in the meantime what do you guys think? Do you agree with Google that Motorola’s products lack the “wow” factor?

These Ceramic Speakers Look Great, But It Will Cost You $481I’m not sure about you guys, but I love my speakers and I have invested a fair bit of money in setting them up. These are a set of speakers made from ceramic and pair with your smartphone/tablet via Bluetooth. It features a clean and minimalist design and the fact that it is made from ceramic should fit in nicely with your kitchenware.  In fact it even comes with a pair of cutouts at the top where you could fit things in, peanuts, jellybeans, cookies, coins, keys, etc.

There’s a version that comes with a DAB radio that features an exotic wooden top, but that will cost you slightly more. So much will the Josiah speakers set you back? Well the wireless Bluetooth version will cost around $481, while the version with the DAB radio will go for around $511. More information on these speakers can be found on Kwamecorp’s website.

Corning forecasts three-year wait for flexible glass gadgets

Corning is a very old company having been around for 161 years now. The company supplies glass and other items to some of the largest companies in the technology world, including Apple. Recently some of the most consistent rumors for Apple devices have been concerning the iWatch smartwatch.

iwatch_concept_0-580x345

That watch has been tipped to have a curved glass screen. Before a device with a curved screen can come to market, glass suppliers have to be able to provide flexible glass. Corning has announced that it sees a three-year wait before companies start making flexible display units using its Willow glass material.

Willow glass is a type of glass that is made in a roll in a method similar to how a news press works. The flexible glass will allow manufacturers to create curved or flexible displays. Corning also notes that it is currently producing the glass and is putting forth “a lot of effort” to teach “very big name” customers how to handle the glass rolls.

Considering that Corning is a supplier for Apple, and Apple is trying to make a curved screen watch, you have to wonder if one of the first products we see using Willow glass might be the iWatch. A Corning executive did say that the company’s Willow glass would be used in some similar products this year such as a flexible barrier for solar panels or a thin film behind some touch panels. The executive noted that samples of Willow glass were sent to makers of smartphones, tablets, and TVs last summer.

Steel Series Unveils Real Racing 3 Headset For $100

Steel Series Unveils Real Racing 3 Headset For $100A couple of days ago Real Racing 3 was announced for both iOS and Android. This is the third installment in the Real Racing franchise and the graphics in the game has definitely been taken up a notch. Now if you’ve enjoyed the franchise and you’d like to show how much you’ve enjoyed it, Steel Series has announced the Real Racing 3 headset. Priced at $100, the Real Racing 3 headset is painted a stark white with the Real Racing 3 logo on the side in a shiny chrome-like finish. The ear plates have also been designed to resemble a speedometer as well and the headset will feature 40mm driver speaker units.

The headset will also come with a detachable cable for those who accidentally tug on the cables during gameplay or walking, an in-line microphone that allows the headset to double up as a hands free piece, and if your friend would like to hear what’s going on while you play the game, the headset will also come with an additional port that your friend can plug their headset into. Steel Series has typically been known to create gaming peripherals for computer and consoles, so it’s a little odd that they have decided to create one for a mobile game. Either way with it being priced at $100, it does seem a little steep, but to each their own, right?

Canon Rumored To Announce New DSLR At End Of March

Canon Rumored To Announce New DSLR At End Of MarchIf you’re a Canon fan then you might be interested to learn that according to the folks at Canon Rumors, it seems that come towards the end of March, Canon could be making an announcement for a new DSLR camera. Unfortunately it is not clear as to what camera Canon will be announcing, but some are speculating that the announcement might be related to a possible successor to the Canon EOS 60D, the EOS 70D.

While the exact specifications of the EOS 70D have yet to be revealed, the existence of the camera was confirmed by Canon’s Chief Executive at the start of February. A timeframe was not given but earlier rumors back in 2012 suggested that the EOS 70D along with other Canon DSLR cameras (7D MK II and 700D) could be seeing an announcement in 2013, so for all we know this alleged announcement at the end of March could be for either of these cameras. We’ll be taking this with a grain of salt, but check back with us then to see if there are any details to be had.

Samsung Galaxy S4 To Be Available In White/Black And 16/32/64GB Storage Options

Samsung Galaxy S4 To Be Available In White/Black And 16/32/64GB Storage OptionsYesterday we reported on a rumor that Samsung could launch the Galaxy S4 in different versions, with one version featuring Samsung’s new Exynos 5 chipset, while the other will sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600. Now according to the folks at SamMobile, they have additional details about the Galaxy S4, claiming that there will 6 variants of the Android handset. Before you get too worked up, fret not because these variants are not processor variants, but rather different storage options and colors. Unsurprisingly the Galaxy S4 will come in two colors – white and black, and they will be available in three different storage options each.

The smallest storage option starts at 16GB, followed by 32GB and finally 64GB. For the most part we expect that storage won’t be a problem with the Galaxy S4. Since microSD card slots have typically come with Samsung’s Android handsets, you could get yourself a 16GB model and augment it with a 32GB microSD card slot, saving yourself some money in the process. Then again we guess there are some users who need the storage and might go for the 64GB model augmented with a 32GB microSD card. Either way hopefully all will be revealed on the 14th of March, so stay tuned!

Volar-e EV racer goes for a test drive, hopes to turn heads

Volare EV racer goes for a test drive, hopes to turn heads

Still nervous about trading in your gas guzzler for an electric carriage? The European Commission wants you to cast your eyes on the Volar-e, a high performance EV prototype designed specifically to garner attention. Designed and built by Applus IDIADA, the Volar-e boasts 1,000 horses driven by four independently controlled electric motors, a regenerative breaking system and the ability to juice up in under twenty minutes. The prototype — which was built in only four months — saw its first public outing this week at Circuit de Catalunya, in Spain, giving onlookers at peek at what its four driving modes can do.

The company didn’t specify what differentiates the vehicles Eco, Dynamic, Racing and Wet modes, but did go out of its way to highlight the Volar-e’s acceleration and top speed: 62mph in 3.4 seconds and 186 mph. The European Commission says the vehicle is built to promote electric vehicles to European markets, standing as a reference point to category’s potential. Cool? Sure, but with performance like that, we can’t imagine the Volar-e will do much to calm our range anxiety. Check out the prototype racer in action after the break.
