Foursquare updates iOS app to version 5.5, improves Explore feature

During what appears to be today’s trend of updated iOS apps, Foursquare has just rolled out an update to its app for the iPhone, improving its Explore feature and taking it to version 5.5. With the updated feature, users can explore nearby places with less hassle, seeing more options on a single screen so they don’t have to toy around in search of the perfect location.

All the best parts about the feature haven’t changed, however, so loyal users don’t have to worry about unfavorable changes. Location data, such as ratings, friend visits, specials, and tips are all still displayed. Tapping through a specific location will then provide additional data, such as instructions on how to get there and, in the case of restaurants, menu information.

In order to facilitate the additional locations displayed, the Explore feature has been redesigned, which will be obvious to anyone who has used the previous version of the app. The most-recommended locations will be displayed at the top, and new locations will be highlighted so you don’t miss them, and information about trends will also be provided.

All the other features are there as well, such as the ability to check in to locations and remember the ones you like. Personalized recommendations are provided as well, providing a more personal experience. Foursquare users can grab the updated app over at the App Store; it’s available for iOS 5.5 and later, and is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Foursquare on iOS gets streamlined Explore section

The folks at Foursqaure have just pushed out version 5.5 for their iOS app, and it packs a redesigned Explore section that crams more recommendations onto a device’s screen. While the new condensed place listings make better use of display real-estate, they still highlight ratings, friends who’ve visited, specials and tips. Though the fresh release is already up for grabs, Explore doesn’t seem to have undergone its metamorphosis quite yet. Johnny Weir Is Clearly Not Over His Feud With Bethenny Frankel On ‘Kathy’ (VIDEO)

Johnny Weir’s feud with Bethenny Frankel has clearly not cooled any since it erupted in 2010, based on his appearance on “Kathy.” The two made headlines for their appearances on the ABC reality competition “Skating with the Stars.” Weir was a judge on the show, while Frankel was a contestant.

Tension began almost immediately when Weir questioned Frankel’s commitment to the show, and then felt she wasn’t respecting the judges. There were reports of behind-the-scenes altercations between the two, and apparently Weir can still get pretty fired up when talking about Frankel.

“If I wanted to be any woman in the world, it would not be Bethenny Frankel,” he said. “I was offended, and she wasn’t listening to our remarks.” Weir went on to say, “If you’re not a rice person and able to listen to people helping you, what are you doing?”

The JobRaising Challenge, HuffPost’s initiative in partnership with The Skoll Foundation, CrowdRise and McKinsey & Company to help job-creating nonprofits raise money and awareness, will conclude at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 1.

The Challenge has already resulted in over 3,500 donations from across the country, with 80 percent of those being under $100.

Bing Maps revamped with ocean topography, updated satellite imagery

Ballmer an Co. have loaded up Bing Maps with yet another batch of images, and though they’re staying quiet about the update’s file size this time, they say it includes 13,799,276 square kilometers of fresh high-res satellite shots and a better view of the ocean floor. Brand-new “straight down” photos give the base map a resolution of 15 meters per pixel, and the introduction of bathymetric imagery changes the ocean’s hue depending on its depth. The refresh even contains fewer clouds, giving users a less obstructed view of Earth. Thanks to additional aerial photos covering 203,271 square kilometers, Microsoft’s map service now covers the entirety of the US and 90 percent of Western Europe with pictures taken from aircraft. Armchair cartographers ready to explore the world remotely can find the revamped visuals already baked into Bing Maps online and within the service’s Windows 8 app.

LOS ANGELES — Kobe Bryant scored 33 points and Antawn Jamison added 17 in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 21st consecutive victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 116-94 on Thursday night.

Bryant and Jodie Meeks each hit four of Los Angeles’ 16 3-pointers, and Meeks finished with 16 points. The Lakers (29-30) have won 12 of 17 and five of seven while moving within two games of Houston for the eighth playoff position in the Western Conference with their longest stretch of solid play in this tumultuous season.

Gayle King got a blast from the past during her visit to the clubhouse on “Watch What Happens: Live.” Of course, Andy Cohen and his team would pull out one of the most embarrassing moments from early in her career as a news broadcaster.

The moment came when she was a news anchor in Hartford, Connecticut. It was King doing a simple sign off, but one messed up word changed the meaning of everything.

“Thank you for joining us. We’ll all be black next … we’ll all be back next week, and I’ll be black. We’ll all be back,” she said in the video.
