Dual-SIM Samsung Galaxy S 4 launches in China with an Exynos 5 Octa inside

Remember the leaked GT-i9502, that dual-SIM variant of the Galaxy S 4 that ultimately confirmed many rumors? That smartphone at last exists beyond a collection of photos, as Samsung just launched it for China Unicom customers. The support for an extra cellular line is naturally the highlight, although there’s another perk for GS4 connoisseurs: the i9502 has the same 1.6GHz Exynos 5 Octa processor as the i9500, which might eke out more performance than the Snapdragon 600 models. There isn’t any word on whether or not the i9502 edition will leave China, although we wouldn’t count on European or North American editions when there isn’t LTE inside to please 4G-obsessed carriers.

Path app is adding 1 million new registered users a week

It looks like everyone loves stickers, because following its last update, Path is growing — fast. The social app is now pulling in a million users a week and has recently topped nine million. It’s picked up most of its new chroniclers and message-senders from English and Spanish speaking regions, particularly in South and Central America. In fact, 500,000 Venezuelans decided to start trying the app over a single weekend. According to Path’s co-founder, Dave Morin, search features added at the start of the year have increased user traffic by 50 percent, while the addition of extra stickers and filter purchases has meant its making its way up the top-grossing charts too. The chief exec adds that the growth appears to be organic, with users largely split equally across iOS and Android, although there’s nothing just yet on Google Glass user numbers .

Microsoft To Release “Switch To Windows Phone” App On Android To Convince Users To Jump Ship

Microsoft To Release Switch To Windows Phone App On Android To Convince Users To Jump ShipOne of the “drawbacks” to the Windows Phone platform is that it is not as app-rich compared to the likes of iOS and Android. Granted there could be several thousand rubbish apps in the iTunes App Store and Google Play, but we guess having a wide selection to choose from is better than having limited options. Looking to persuade some Android users to make the switch to Windows Phone, it seems that Microsoft is preparing an app called “Switch to Windows Phone” that will help Android users decide if making the jump is favorable depending on their selection of apps.

Basically what the app does is that it takes account of all the apps installed on your Android device, and through the use of Quixey, an apps-search engine, it will then attempt to search for apps that are either also available on the Windows Phone platform, or at the very least find something which is a close alternative based on the description of the apps, reviews, ratings and so on. The app was originally planned for a release today, but Quixey has apparently run into some delays and the app will launch next week instead. What do Android users out there think? Are apps the main reason holding you back from switching to Windows Phone?

Huawei Will Not Be Pulling Out Of The US Market

Huawei Will Not Be Pulling Out Of The US MarketA couple of days ago we reported that Huawei was apparently looking to shift its focus from the US market. Considering that the US market is one of the main markets and one of the bigger markets for manufacturers to break into, it did sound a little weird and sure enough it looks like something might have been lost in translation. Huawei has since stepped forward to clarify that they are not pulling out of the US market, or at the very least the Chinese company is trying to spin the statement into one that does not sound as absolute.

This was reported by the Beijing News who stated that Huawei’s executive vice president, Eric Xu, was simply stating that the company thinks that focusing on other markets outside the United States are just as important, and that it did not mean that Huawei would be abandoning the US market. If you’re a fan of Huawei’s products we guess this could be good news, although with the US government supposedly deeming Huawei (and its Chinese rival, ZTE) as “not to be trusted”, we guess they can’t be blamed if they wanted to take their business to somewhere else where they are a little more welcome.

Vine For Android Coming “Soon”

Vine For Android Coming SoonGood news Android users! If you were a little jealous at your iOS friends who have been enjoying the features of Vine, you’re in luck because during the NYC Apps meetup, Dom Hoffman, the co-founder of Vine, revealed that the developers are currently working on an Android version of the app. At this point in time it is unknown when the Android version of the app will be released, but they did state that it would be available “soon”, and we’re definitely hoping to see it released in the near future, rather than “soon” as in by the end of 2013!

For those unfamiliar Vine, it basically allows users to film short video clips and upload them to its website. In a way it could be thought of as the video equivalent of Instagram, and some companies have taken to the app to release teaser videos rather than through YouTube which is more or less the norm these days. In any case we’ll keep our eyes peeled, but in the meantime Android users, are you guys excited?

Kirin – Kirin Ichiban Shibori Garden – Kirin’s flagship beer hall in Tokyo

Kirin - Kirin Ichiban Shibori Garden - Kirin's flagship beer hall in Tokyo

Spring has finally maybe broken through here in Tokyo. And Golden Week starts this weekend! Time to enjoy the nice weather and a refreshing beverage. What could be better than some Kirin Ichiban Shibori beer in a beer garden in Tokyo…

Kirin has opened Ichiban Shibori Garden, its flagship Kirin beer hall, this week in Toranomon, Tokyo for a limited time only. And Japanese actress/model, Yu Aoi was on hand to celebrate the opening and try her hand at pouring a draft.

More Kirin stores will open in other cities in Japan soon and then overseas starting in China, Taiwan and Korea in mid-May.

The concept of Kirin Ichiban Shibori Garden is “A space to propose a new beer style and share happiness”.

In addition to regular draft Kirin Ichiban Shibori, on a hot day you may want to try a draft beer called “Ichiban Shibori Frozen” – it has icy foam on top of the beer so you can enjoy a new texture in your beer…

Or, perhaps a beer cocktail called “Ichiban Shibori Two-tone” that has juice or liqueur on the bottom.

It will definitely become a hot hang-out spot for salarymen and OLs this coming summer!

Mailbox For iPad In The Works, Developers Considering Mac Version As Well

Mailbox For iPad In The Works, Developers Considering Mac Version As WellIf there’s one thing about Mailbox that makes it such a great app is the fact that it has a clean user interface and includes the use of intuitive gestures, making organizing your mailbox a less complicated process. Unfortunately at this point in time the app is currently available for the iPhone, but it seems that according to its developer, Orchestra, they are currently working on a version that will bring the mail app to the iPad as well. No word on when the iPad version will be released since no ETA has been given, but hopefully for iPad owners it will be released in the near future.

Even better news is that if you love the app so much and would love to see it come onto other platforms, such as for your Mac computer, you might be in luck as the developers have also stated that they are considering making a Mailbox for the Mac operating system as well. Unfortunately Android users are still out of luck at the moment, but who knows, perhaps sometime in the future Mailbox for Android could be released as well.

Future Blackberry 10 Devices May No Longer Feature Removable Batteries [Rumor]

Future Blackberry 10 Devices May No Longer Feature Removable Batteries [Rumor]Back in the day, phones with removable and interchangeable batteries were the norm, but that started to change in more modern phones whose batteries are fixed and sealed in a unibody chassis, resulting in the user having to deal with the size of the battery and be careful about their use to prevent the phone from dying on them in the middle of the day.

Thankfully there are still smartphones out there that still have removable batteries, Blackberry phones for instance, such as the Blackberry Z10 and the upcoming Q10. However a rumor picked up by the folks at BBOS might see such a trend die out in future Blackberry 190 products. (more…)
