‘Scandal’ star, author and Huff Post blogger Dan Bucatinsky recently stopped by Huff Post Live to discuss what it’s like to be a real-life gay father.

Bucatinksy, who plays James Novak on the hit ABC show, revealed his biggest challenge didn’t really have much to do with his sexuality.

“The things that I was not prepared to handle were things that other new parents are not prepared to handle,” said Bucatinsky, who penned the book Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight?. “I was surprised by how normal [it was… because gay people are normal], but how much it wasn’t specific necessarily to the fact that I’m gay.”

Lenovo unveils touchscreen ThinkPad S431, ships ThinkPad Edge E431 and E531

Lenovo unveils touchscreen ThinkPad S431, ships ThinkPad Edge E431 and E531

Lenovo is giving fans of professional laptop chic a treat today: in addition to shipping the ThinkPad Edge E431 and E531, it’s unveiling one more model, the ThinkPad S431. The new Ivy Bridge-powered system is closer to the Edge S430 in spirit, carrying a similar 0.8 inches thick chassis, an aluminum lid and a thin-bezel design that stuffs a 14-inch touchscreen into a small body. It does carry the newer Edge line’s unifying OneLink connector and gesture-friendly touchpad, although the svelter profile also involves some sacrifices — the S431 tops out at 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive, or about half what its peers can manage. The slimmer, touch-enabled design will also boost the asking price to $699 when the S431 ships in June, although the cost conscious can spring for the E431 and E531 today for a distinctly cheaper $599.

Prominent car dealer supports Tesla sales in Texas

While Tesla has several car dealerships located around the US, some states still aren’t letting the company in (including Texas and Virginia) since they require that cars be sold through a middle man, and without the middle man, car dealers wouldn’t make any money. However, a prominent car dealership in Houston is speaking up by saying that the ban on Tesla should be lifted in the state.

tesla_model_s1-580x386

A long time ago, car dealers ended up getting their state lawmakers to pass legislation that would ban the direct sale of cars straight from the manufacturer. This was a precaution to prevent auto makers from undercutting the car dealers. However, Sterling McCall, who is a popular retired car dealer based in Houston, says that this kind of ban is hogwash.

McCall says that “we ought to welcome competition — and the innovation — that Tesla brings, just as dealerships already compete to sell more gas-powered, hybrid and natural gas vehicles from the country’s larger manufacturers.” McCall continues by saying that this is essentially something that the public wants.

However, it’ll be a hard fight Musk and company, as Tesla was recently denied a dealer license in Virginia for the same reasons that they can’t sell cars in Texas. Musk is currently urging lawmakers to introduce a new bill that would either reverse the ban, or simply allow direct sales in these states.

iGO Power Trip line kicks mobile device charging down to the basics

If you’ve been searching for a mobile device battery that’ll power your smartphone or tablet up from your pocket recently, you know there’s essentially no end to your choices. The difference between one battery and the next can be as simple as the color choices you’ve got available. With the company iGO you’ve got a few unique features in their Power Trip line that may very well sway your pocketbook one way or the other.

ico1

With the Power Trip you’ve got a set of color options – six of them, to be exact, each of them ready to be your pocketable solution for on-the-go charging of your mobile device. The unit you’re seeing above and below is the Power Trip 4700, so named for its 4,700mAh power capacity. That amount, for your reference, is more than twice the amount of power of a standard Samsung Galaxy S III and more than three times the capacity of the iPhone 5.

igo2

This battery pack lineup works with a single full-sized USB port that’ll allow you to connect to your standard charging cord. In the box you get a miniature cord that can charge with microUSB and includes a converter tip so you can charge miniUSB devices as well. Unfortunately the package does not include a Lightning connector, so you’ll need to use the cord you got with your iPhone 5, iPad 4, or iPad mini, but rest assured: it does work.

Once you’ve used up all the power the iGO Power Trip is packing, you’ll have to recharge using the same microUSB cord you got in the box – only backwards. In this case you’ll need to plug the larger end in to your notebook or some other full-sized USB port you’d use at home to charge your devices.

This charger line comes in three different sizes, ranging from 3,000 to a massive 6,100mAh and works to charge your device with a single button click. Lights surrounding the single button on this charger show in simple terms how much of a charge you’ve got left, and the pack itself is perfectly pocketable. The largest size Power Trip will cost you $79.99, the 4700 will cost you $59.99, and the 3000 runs $49.99 – and they’re all available right this minute. Let us know how you roll!

Robots Could Be Tickled In The Future

Robots Could Be Tickled In The FutureDo you think that we take the small things in life for granted? Take for instance, you holding on to an egg without breaking it, or how about closing your eyes and feel the breeze caress your face? Of course, we might think nothing much of those, but pause for a moment and reflect on how robots are. I suppose if they were capable of emotions, then they would certainly want to “kill” (hopefully not literally) to be able to have the sense of touch built-in.

Perhaps all of that might change sometime down the road, courtesy of breakthrough research which offers robots as well as other compatible electronic devices an extraordinarily nuanced sense of touch. The implementation of piezoelectricity in a robot by a team of Georgia Tech researchers led by Zhong Lin Wang could result in a finely tuned electronic sense of touch, which is definitely something that would elevate robots to the next level of their evolution. Surely this is a scary yet exciting thought simultaneously.

Twitter Believes Attacks Against High Profile Accounts Will Continue

Twitter Believes Attacks Against High Profile Accounts Will Continue

We’ve seen a number of high profile Twitter accounts being hacked in the past couple of weeks. 60 Minutes and other CBS accounts, 11 accounts of The Guardian and the main account of The Associated Press were all hacked recently. It is believed that the same modus operandi was used in all hacks, and Twitter warns its users that these attacks are likely to continue in the near future, this according to a memo Twitter sent to numerous news organizations.

In its memo Twitter describes various solutions that could help make accounts safer, suggesting that users beef up the security of their email accounts and review applications authorized with their Twitter accounts. They also suggest that one computer must be used for the sole purpose of accessing Twitter, to reduce the risk of malware, this computer should not be used for doing anything else online. It is also rumored that Twitter is working on a two factor authentication system which will greatly boost account security, and that it is rushing to get it out as soon as possible so as to curtail any impending attacks on prominent accounts.
