Carl’s Jr. Jenny McCarthy Ad Features Salad With A Side Of Cleavage (VIDEO)

Carl’s Jr. has debuted another ad featuring a scantily-clad female enjoying her food. It’s not a burger (or fish sandwich) this time, though — the chain is unveiling the cranberry apple walnut grilled chicken salad with help from Jenny McCarthy.

Apparently, there are hazards to eating salad while wearing a low-cut top — Jenny seems to get more salad down her shirt than into her mouth.

The salad is available for $5.

Google Mine service reportedly leaked, lets Google+ friends share real goods

Google Mine service owuld reportedly let Google friends lend real goods

Google is big on sharing all things virtual, but it hasn’t done a lot to spread the wealth in the physical world. That could change soon: Google Operating System claims to have spotted an in-development Google Mine service that can simplify lending tangible goods. Users can list what they’re sharing, offer items to their Google+ circles and keep track of who has what. The web version can reportedly show a collection in 3D through a WebGL viewer named Katamari, and there’s also an Android app in tow.

The feature set sounds ideal for generous Google+ users; the real question is whether we’ll get to use any of it. Mine is supposedly limited to internal testing for now, and only some of Google’s initiatives ever leave its campus. Google hasn’t confirmed the effort, but the company tells us that it’s “always experimenting” with features and doesn’t have anything to share “at this time.” Connected borrowers will just have to be patient, then — assuming the service launches at all.

LA Settles Anthem Blue Cross Lawsuit For $6 Million

LOS ANGELES — The city attorney announced a $6 million settlement Thursday to resolve a lawsuit that alleged health insurer Anthem Blue Cross illegally dropped more than 6,000 policyholders from coverage.

The settlement is far less than the $1 billion in fines and restitution former Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo threatened when the lawsuit was filed in 2008.

Chlamydia Can Cause DNA Damage Linked With Cancer Risk, Study Finds

By: Rachael Rettner, LiveScience Senior Writer
Published: 06/21/2013 12:17 PM EDT on LiveScience

Chlamydia infections can cause DNA damage that may increase the risk of later developing cancer, a new study suggests.

In the study, human cells growing in lab dishes that were infected with chlamydia were more likely to have DNA damage compared to cells not infected with chlamydia. What’s more, this DNA damage was not always repaired properly by the cell, increasing the chances of genetic mutations.

Normally, cells with such DNA damage would activate a process that kills the cells, so that the cell does not turn cancerous. But in the study, the cells with DNA damage overrode this mechanism, and continued to divide. The continued division of cells with DNA mutations could eventually lead to cancer, the researchers said.

Earlier studies found an association between chlamydia infections and an increased risk of cervical and ovarian cancer in people, but such studies cannot prove cause and effect. The new study provides a biological explanation for how chlamydia could increase the risk of cancer.

However, because the study was conducted in cells in a lab dish, more research is needed to show the same thing occurs in people.

The new study, conducted by researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, was published June 12 in the journal Cell Host & Microbe.

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. Most infected people have no symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, untreated infections can damage the reproductive tract in women, and cause infertility. Complications from untreated infections are rare in men, but the condition can cause a burning sensation when urinating, and very rarely, prevent a man from fathering children, the CDC says.

Things Tourists Say: 5 Clichés You Should Probably Leave At Home

Being a tourist is an innately clichéd experience — you roam around a foreign city, toting a giant camera, posing for awkward photos and wearing one of those I heart (insert city name here) t-shirts.

There are plenty of clichéd things you can say, too — from corny jokes, to puns, to phrases we’ve heard thousands of time.

Whether you think they’re clever or classless, check out the ones we rounded up.

Yoga In Times Square: 2013 Solstice Event Draws Thousands To One Of The World’s Busiest Intersections (PHOTOS)

At the 11th Solstice at Times Square event Friday, thousands upon thousands of yoga enthusiasts are descending upon one of the world’s busiest commercial intersections to celebrate the first day of summer with a peace-seeking dose of yoga.

Aptly dubbed “Mind Over Madness” yoga, the organizers of this year’s Solstice at Times Square event say the juxtaposition of the flashy location with the soothing practice of yoga is meant to remind attendees that peace can be found anywhere — even in the hustle and bustle of New York City.

“It’s a metaphor for calming the mind amidst the madness of modern life,” said Tim Tompkins, president of Times Square Alliance and co-founder of the annual event, in a media release.

Wisconsin Ultrasound Bill Protest Leads To Eight Arrests

Eight people were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in Madison, Wis., on Thursday after they tried to deliver coat hangers to the offices of lawmakers who supported a mandatory ultrasound bill.

According to The Capitol Times, about two dozen protesters holding coat hangers were shut out of the offices of three Republican state senators and Gov. Scott Walker (R) — the most vocal supporters of the recently-passed measure. The coat hangers were intended to signify a time before the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 when women had to resort to unsafe, back-alley abortions because the procedure was illegal.

Walker has said that he will sign the mandatory ultrasound bill, which requires women to undergo either a transabdominal or a more-invasive transvaginal ultrasound procedure whether or not it is deemed medically necessary.
