Final Breaking Bad season to air on Netflix UK right after US broadcast

Breaking Bad's final episodes to air on Netflix UK right after US broadcast

Breaking Bad fans in the UK looking for instant gratification won’t have to resort to the torrents anymore, as new episodes will hit Netflix in Ireland and the UK immediately after airing in the US. British viewers are accustomed to longer waits for such shows, but after broadcaster AMC worked with Netflix UK to make episodes of The Killing available sooner, the pair have now followed suit with Breaking Bad. Creator Vince Gilligan said the show has become a “phenomenon” in the countries, and added that he’s “delighted” that fans there will be able to enjoy it earlier. Magnanimity aside, the move will no doubt take some of the sting out of the piracy that’s inevitable with a long lag, too. Check the PR after the jump for more.

Star Wars R2-D2 Trashcan

Are you thinking along the lines that the Star Wars franchise can never be milked completely dry? After all, what is that saying, a fool is born every minute? The space opera that wowed little kids and adults alike back in 1977 has had its fair share of brickbats in the past (anyone remember The Phantom Menace?), but one thing’s for sure – the Star Wars film collection is set to expand even further after Disney bought over Lucasfilm, and we do know that Star Wars Episode VII is on its way to the silver screen, and hopefully they will not botch this. Since you are a huge fan of all things Star Wars, how about enhancing your home with some Star Wars swag? I am referring to this $129.99 Star Wars R2-D2 Trashcan.

Now most folks would baulk at the idea of forking out that kind of good money for, of all things, a trashcan. Hey, this is no ordinary trash can, since it is an officially licensed Lucasfilm collectible, and it comes in a size which most offices would be more than comfortable with. All you need to do is step on R2-D2′s foot, and his head will flip open to receive whatever trash that you are going to dispose of. Imported from Japan, it is an incredibly detailed replica of R2-D2, but too bad it is unable to emit any beeping sounds for that added bit of realism. This is definitely the trash can you’ve been looking for…

NapAnywhere Lets You Catch a Few Zzz’s Anytime, Anywhere

Tired? Sleepy? Then take a nap whenever and wherever you want to with NapAnywhere. It’s not the first take-anywhere pillow in the market (remember the Ostrich pillow?), but it’s more user-friendly and portable compared to some alternatives.

NapAnywhere

So what is NapAnywhere? It’s a head-support pillow that gives you the right amount of support when you’re sleeping in an upright position. It was created by a physician, combining engineering, architecture, and even a little bit of origami into the final design. Most people use U-shaped pillows as their headrest when they’re sleeping on the go, but if you’ve tried taking a half-hour nap on those things, then you probably already know how uncomfortable they can be.

The NapAnywhere flattens into a disc for easy storage when it’s not in use. When you want to take a nap, just unfold and it’s ready to use. NapAnywhere just hit its goal on Kickstarter, so it will be going into production.

Blackmagic’s 4K camera delayed, Pocket Cinema model to ship in ‘3-4 days’

Blackmagic's 4K camera delayed, Pocket Cinema model to ship soon

If you’ve pre-ordered one of the two Blackmagic cinema cams announced at NAB this year, there’s good, not-so-good and bad news coming out of a Blackmagic event yesterday. First the good: Blackmagic’s Pocket Cinema model, which stunned observers with its 1080P RAW specs and sub-$1,000 price tag, should start shipping in a few days. That’s close to the July 25th date promised for both cameras, although there could be a not-so-good caveat. John Brawley (who showed off the Pocket Cinema’s first pristine images) told forum users that it would likely only have ProRes 422 support, and not RAW, at first — though Blackmagic told us they “couldn’t confirm” that. As for the bad part, those who laid down the most cash ($4,000 or so) will have to wait for the Production Camera 4K. The company told event-goers it wouldn’t arrive until early September now, but when we reached out for clarification, it gave the following statement:

With regards to the Production Camera 4K there is still several weeks of work to do before this enters full production manufacturing, however we expect to ship the first quantities of this model before the end of August.

Still, given the company’s track record of delays with the original Cinema Camera, you may want to avoid relying on that info for any time-specific projects.

Nokia Lumia 1020 now up for sale at AT&T

(Credit: Screenshot by Lance Whitney/CNET)

U.S. consumers eyeing Nokia’s new Lumia 1020 can now buy the phone from AT&T.

Equipped with a 41-megapixel camera, the 1020 is available through AT&T’s Web site and will be sold in AT&T stores starting today.

Buyers can choose from among three colors — yellow, black, or white. That’s hopefully a simple enough decision. What may be trickier is picking the price and the plan. AT&T offers four options for purchasing the phone.

You can go for a month-to-month plan with no long-term commitment and pay the full retail price of $659.99. You can select a one-year contract and shell out $549.99. You can go the usual two-year route and pay $299.99. Or you can opt for the AT&T Next plan. AT&T Next lets you pay off your smartphone in monthly installments, the major benefit being that you can upgrade your phone once a year.

In addition to its high-resolution camera, the Lumia 1020 comes with a 4.5-inch 1,280×768-pixel display, a 1.5GHz dua… [Read more]

New Nexus 7 could pop up at your local Best Buy today

(Credit: Screenshot by Lance Whitney/CNET)

Consumers should be able to snag the new Nexus 7 from Best Buy stores starting today.

A spokesperson for the electronics retailer told CNET that the new Nexus 7 is now available at Best Buy, both online and at retail stores. Initially, the tablet wasn’t scheduled to start selling until Tuesday, July 30.

Online preorders for the Nexus 7, which kicked off yesterday, also show today as a pickup date for a wide number of stores. To check this out yourself, open the Best Buy product page for the Nexus 7, either the 16GB or 32GB edition. Click on the link to Check Stores. Enter your zip code or city and state and then click Search. A number of stores should appear with July 26 listed as the in-store pickup date.

A salesperson at a nearby Best Buy store told me that the 16GB model is in stock, with plenty of units available. Still, buyers eager to grab the new Nexus should first call their local Best Buy outlet to see if it’s available in their desired capacity.

Shoppers will also find the … [Read more]

Travel Sleep Sound Generator

Some of us have the “gift” of falling asleep just about anywhere, regardless of how noisy or sweltering it is out there. This is truly something which many others envy, especially those who need a perfect and quiet environment, not to mention having all the drapes drawn to a close, with the lights turned off. Well, if you find yourself having difficulty in sleeping, especially when you travel to unfamiliar territory (did you check for a pea under your mattress?), perhaps a little bit of external assistance might come in handy. I am referring to the $89.95 Travel Sleep Sound Generator.

The Travel Sleep Sound Generator happens to be an easy-to-carry device which will play soothing sounds that assist you in drifting off to sleep, never mind that you are in a posh hotel room, on an airplane, or at home. It has been specially designed in conjunction with world-renowned Neuro-acoustic expert Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, as the device itself will feature 18 digital sounds that were recorded in the field, such as ocean surf, spring rain, song birds, and bamboo chimes. It works via this principle – blocking disruptive background noise, the unit will then encourage one to relax, while resetting the body’s internal clock in order to combat jet lag. You can choose to have it run continuously, or with a trio of timed settings of 30, 60, or 90 minutes, where it will gradually decrease its volume. Other than that, it doubles up as a full-featured alarm clock complete with a snooze button, calendar, voice memo recorder, and back-lit LCD. You can have it run on a quartet of AA batteries or plug it into the AC outlet.
