Motherhood

In the beginning, waiting for the baby to feed or stop feeding or burp or pass wind or yellow liquid shit, I postponed showers, phone calls, bowel movements. With the baby I could spend four days in two rooms, so tired I was half blind. The perimeter of my vision shrank to a bull’s-eye. I ignored correspondence because I had no energy even to write I am so tired, and no one would care that I was tired — who isn’t tired?

Eric Dane On Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: ‘The Last Ship’ Was Something I Couldn’t Pass Up

When Eric Dane was killed off at the beginning of Season 9 of “Grey’s Anatomy,” fans of Mark Sloan and his shirtless ways mourned his loss … but it all started to make more sense when he was cast as Tom Chandler on TNT’s “The Last Ship” a month later.

Although Dane was happy to join the Michael Bay-created series, he admitted that it was hard for him to leave “Grey’s” behind.

“’Grey’s Anatomy’ is a world … it’s not about any one individual actor and the storylines were sort of … you know, heading in different directions. So it was an opportunity for me to go and I was interested in something different,” he told EW. “I loved doing ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ I would have done it until the final episode, but this was something I couldn’t pass up.”

Hasselblad Stellar: Thrice the Price and Exactly as Nice as the Sony RX100

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 is a seriously hot camera, but its understated black-box body won’t win a pizzazz contest. The Hasselblad Stellar is the same camera as the Sony RX100, gussied up with fancy accoutrements such as a zebra-wood grip, …

Hawaii ‘Return To Home’ Program Will Pay To Fly Homeless People Back To The Mainland

Homeless people in Hawaii wishing to return to their families on the mainland will soon be able to turn to the state for financial help with the journey, when a hotly debated program launches later this year.

State legislators have organized a three-year “Return to Home” pilot program, which will have a $100,000 annual budget. Supporters of the effort, which will begin next fiscal year, touted it as a move that would serve the dual purposes of aiding the state’s 17,000 homeless people and reducing the burden they put on the state’s infrastructure. The bill to which the measure was attached also included funding for substance abuse treatment, mental health programs, and clean and sober housing, as well as various rental and housing assistance programs.

Some members of Hawaii’s Department of Human Services, which will be tasked with managing the “Return to Home” experiment, have expressed concerns about potential abuse.

“Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” about a White House service worker who spent eight administrations in the presence of presidents, features an all-star cast. Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey star, as do a plethora of famous faces playing famous politicians: John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Robin Williams as Dwight D. Eisenhower, James Marsden as John F. Kennedy, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan and Jane Fonda as his wife, Nancy.

Obama Administration Officials: No Coup In Egypt

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration will tell lawmakers Thursday that it won’t declare Egypt’s government overthrow a coup, U.S. officials said, allowing the United States to continue providing $1.5 billion in annual military and economic aid to the Arab world’s most populous country.

William Burns, the State Department’s No. 2 official, will hold closed-doors briefings with members of the House and Senate just a day after Washington delayed delivery of four F-16 fighter jets to Egypt. It was the first U.S. action since the military ousted Mohammed Morsi as president, imprisoned him and other Muslim Brotherhood members and suspended the constitution earlier this month.
