Afghanistan Justice Program Found To Have ‘Serious Deficiencies’ By Inspector General

WASHINGTON — An award made to an organization to promote the rule of law in Afghanistan does not appear to contain basic provisions that would allow the State Department to ensure proper oversight of a project expected to cost U.S. taxpayers $50 million, federal inspectors said Thursday.

In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction said there were “serious deficiencies” in the government’s award to the International Development Law Organization, which is based in Rome, for the Afghanistan Justice Training Transition Program.

Elon Musk vs. Jeff Bezos: Billionaires bid for NASA’s space shuttle launchpad

DNP Bezos vs musk

Here’s an epic fight that won’t take place inside the octagon: Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are apparently competing to take over a NASA launchpad… and instead of dishing out jiu-jitsu moves, they’re letting money do the talking. In particular, the dotcom billionaires’ space companies, Blue Origin and SpaceX, are bidding for Kennedy Space Center’s historic Launch Complex 39A — site of NASA’s first and last space shuttle blast-off. Each company’s plan for 39A is to launch both unmanned missions and shuttles carrying commercial customers and astronaut crews into space. Bezos’ Blue Origin, however, also aims to turn it into a multi-use facility where other companies can launch their rockets for a price. NASA’s keeping bidding details on the down low, but seeing as it wants to offload 39A in October to save money, we’ll know soon enough who’ll win this battle of the dollars.

The Gift of Portable Humidity

Amazing Grace Amazing Humidifier

The human body is sensitive to its environment. We have a range within which we feel comfortable – a certain temperature range; a certain illumination range, a certain level of sound, pressure and even humidity. Alter any of this too much or for too long and the body will protest. In a dry environment, like an air-conditioned office, the moisture from our body is extracted to the environment and our skin dries.

Super-hotcakes? Chromecast wait now up to 4 weeks

Well, that was quick. The Chromecast disappears from Amazon in mere hours.

(Credit: Screenshot by Eric Mack/CNET)

Chromecast, Google’s new $35 HDMI dongle that seeks to create a bridge between laptops, mobile devices, and televisions or other larger screens, has quickly become the hot item of the day. I’m talking measured-in-Kelvin hot here, folks.

Since being unveiled Wednesday morning at a Google breakfast event and going on sale shortly thereafter, Chromecast is already listed as “temporarily out of stock” on Amazon and on the Google Play store, you’re now looking at three to four weeks before your dongle will ship. I ordered mine from Best Buy which is still offering relatively speedy service (and free shipping) by promising to ship me a Chromecast in the first week of August.
