Update to Apple Store app will offer free iTunes, App Store content — report

Apple is set to release an updated version of its Apple Store app for the iPhone and iPod Touch on Tuesday that will promote content from the App Store, the iTunes Store, and the iBookstore, with some of it free for a limited time, a report says.

Blog 9to5 Mac cites an unnamed source in reporting that the new app has been tweaked to be more in keeping with the interfaces of the iOS 6 versions of the three aforementioned content apps and to promote those apps. It’s also, of course, meant to juice direct-from-Apple sales of the iPhone and other hardware.

Among other things, the Apple Store app lets customers buy products from the app and either pick them up at an Apple Store or have them shipped.

Sources tell the blog that the app makeover is also part of a new initiative at Apple’s brick-and-mortar outlets: “When a new iOS device is sold, Apple employees will be encouraged to install the new Apple Store app on the newly purchased device” as a way of increasing the number of Apple customers who are aware of the Apple Store app, 9to5 Mac reports. The blog says only about 20 percent of customers know about the app at this point.

We’ve asked Apple to comment on the report and will update this piece if we hear back.

Justice League Movie In 2017: Warner Bros. Announces Superhero Team Up At Comic-Con

A huge Saturday of geek news just got a little bigger. According to THR, Warner Bros. is set to release the Justice League movie in 2017.

“Justice League” would follow the Superman and Batman film that the studio is planning for 2015, as well as a screen adaptation of The Flash in 2016. The Los Angeles Times was first to report the Superman and Batman film — which may have the title of “The World’s Finest” — with THR confirming that news. “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill will return as Superman for that feature with Zack Snyder once again directing. Which star will take over for Christian Bale as Batman remains to be seen.

“Justice League” was originally rumored to have a 2015 release date.

Activist Twitter Dress Streams Political Tweets

You are what you wear. Sometimes, you can send the loudest of messages without saying a single word. You can let your clothes do all the talking instead.

For example, take the Twitter Dress developed by creative agency Deportivo. This isn’t the first dress that displays tweets, although it’s the first one that’s political in nature.

Activist Twitter

The dress was created to help Sweden’s youth get their voices heard at Almedalen Week, which is an annual political summit where thousands of politicians, celebrities, and PR people will converge to attend seminars, discuss issues, and talk politics. Deportivo worked with youth organization Crossing Borders in the creation of the dress, which you can see in action in the Vine animation below:

Crossing Borders recruited 30 “ambassadors” to wear the dress before the summit began. Their goal was to get the organization’s concerns out there by catching the attention of people who can actually do something about it – in this case, the people in attendance at Almedalen.

After the summit, Deportivo’s Stefan Ronge reported: “The Twitter Dress got a pledge from the minister of equality, Maria Arnholm, on addressing the issue of mandatory education on gender equality for Swedish teachers.”

The Ruark Audio R7 has a stylish look, that seems to be inspired from some hifi gear from the 1960s. It comes wrapped in walnut veneer and can stand on black lacquer legs. The center console is made from aluminum and glass. It houses a DAB+/FM/Internet radio, CD and MP3 player. Like many newer audio devices, it can stream music wirelessly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
