LG Optimus G Pro due in 40 more countries this quarter, probably not the UK

LG Optimus G Pro

Having earned some respect here in the US and on its home turf, the LG Optimus G Pro is about ready to hit stores in Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Latin America. Reasons to be interested? The big, user-replaceable battery is certainly one, while the remarkably good 1080p 5.5-inch IPS LCD display is another — oh, and don’t forget dual-camera video recording either. Unfortunately, the Korean press release makes no specific mention of availability on UK carriers, and LG has been cautious about supporting the country’s “immature” LTE scene in the past, so we’re not sure if this handset will ever be available to Brits except on import. We’ve emailed a UK rep to ask if that stance has perhaps changed at all, and to chat about the (currently glorious) weather.

Update: There’s “no further update from a UK availability perspective”, which sounds like a “no.” However, it is indeed sunny.

HTC One ‘glamour red’ hands-on

HTC One in red handson

A lot of the smartphone color options we see announced are no big deal, but there was a certain something about HTC’s metallic red One that demanded closer attention. We’ve just handled the burgundy bombshell, which has the same hardware credentials seen on the silver and black options (4.7-inch 1080p display, UltraPixel camera, Snapdragon 600 processor), but coated in a metallic “glamour red” finish just in time for summer. The color extends across the rear of the smartphone, the two speaker panels on the front and the chamfered edge that connects the two. The effect is slightly textured to the touch (more than the initial monochrome models, at least), making it a bit easier to grip, while bouncing around any ambient light that manages to hit it. That’s pretty much all there is to say, but you can scrutinize the new choice of color in our gallery below — and check our full review, because the phone’s fortunately otherwise unchanged.

The repair yard where Lionel model trains get rolling again

At the Lionel repair facility in Canfield, Ohio, technicians fix thousands of the famous model trains every year.

(Credit: Daniel Terdiman/CNET)

CANFIELD, Ohio — Lionel is one of the best-known model train makers in the world. It has fans (and customers) just about everywhere, and its products can sell for hundreds of dollars. In the last 113 years, it has established itself as the epitome of quality and class.

Yet until just three years ago, its repair operations were disorganized to the point that fixing customers’ trains could take months, and often those repairs did nothing to fix the problem.

Toshiba’s Exceria Pro SDHC cards claim ‘world’s fastest’ write speeds of 240MB per second

Toshiba's Exceria Pro SDHC cards claim 'world's fastest' write speeds of 240MB per second

SD cards are a dime a dozen, so any new entrants need a pretty juicy hook to get our ears pricked. Toshiba’s Exceria Pro cards mightn’t have any wireless or special transfer features, but they do claim to take the “world’s fastest” title for one basic spec: write speeds. Intended for top-level cameras, the Pro SDHC cards will come in 16GB and 32GB configurations and tout the UHS-II high-speed standard for achieving write speeds of 240MB per second. Launching alongside the Pro options will be a couple of Exceria SDXC cards with capacities of 32GB or 64GB. Also UHS-II compliant, these have maximum write speeds of 120MB per second; data read speeds of all Exceria cards top out at 260MB per second. They’ll be available in “major markets worldwide,” but will arrive in Japan first, with the Pro cards launching in October before the regular Exceria models in November. Pricing info isn’t available right now, but we imagine they’ll be a little more expensive than the standard cards tucked away in your point-and-shoot.

‘Teen Wolf’: Death Of A Major Character, And A Huge Revelation About Scott (VIDEO)

Kali and her packmates wanted to prove that the Alpha pack meant business on “Teen Wolf,” and they chose a bloody way to do it. After Boyd came up with a potentially brilliant idea to protect Derek from their attack, it all fell apart when Kali and the twins cut the power. So it was time to fight.

Unfortunately, Derek and his pack were no match for the Alphas. The Alphas quickly gained the upper hand, and then Kali drove home her point. With Derek still wolfed out, she had her own pack hold his hands up. Shen then embedded Boyd onto Derek’s claws, gutting him.

Boyd bled out as the Alpha pack left with an ultimatum. Derek had until the next full moon to join the pack, or she would come back and kill them all.
