Back when many of us were still kids and many more had yet to even be twinkles in our mothers’ uteri, Inspector Gadget was the apotheosis of all of technology’s promises—many of which, it turns out, came true. Vanity Fair has a wonderful little collection of those gadgets of the inspector’s that were particularly prescient.
We’ve seen LEDs, OLEDs and even frickin’ lasers used in automotive lighting, but Audi‘s just cranked things up a notch with the world’s first 3D OLED tail lights. The prototype system was developed in collaboration with Philips, Merck and the University of Cologne, and the research was funded by the German government. What’s 3D OLED about, exactly? It’s the application of OLEDs to curved glass surfaces, which enables complex shapes with multiple layers and transparency. For the project, Philips invented new manufacturing techniques to produce OLEDs on formed glass using wet chemistry, and Audi then designed tail lights for a TT Roadster to validate the technology. While there’s no word yet on the longevity or efficiency, we figure it’s only a matter of time until 3D OLED lighting comes to production vehicles.

Why would anyone ever own a Mogwai? You are just asking for trouble. Have you not seen the movies? Those cute little furballs turn into Gremlins. They are like tribbles, but deadly. Don’t ever own a Mogwai people! They will only bring you trouble.
This life sized Gremlin is so realistic that it should serve as a PSA warning people about the dangers of Mogwai/Gremlins. Amazingly, it was constructed entirely out of cardboard by crafter crispin23. Obviously this guy likes cigars. And clawing peoples faces off.
It is amazing work. More importantly it reminds us to never get Mogwai wet, feed them after midnight or even rub their furry little tummies. Do not be fooled by their fuzziness.

The Lumia 1020 by Nokia.
(Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET)
Nokia hopes its comeback story comes into focus with a little help from its 41-megapixel camera-packing Lumia 1020.
The former Finnish mobile devices giant was at it again on Thursday with the debut of its latest smartphone, which rocks the souped-up zoom-lens camera that impressed critics a year ago at Mobile World Congress. For some, this is the real PureView camera that should have been bolted on to last year’s Lumia 920 flagship phone.
Even as the Lumia 1020 comes packed to the gills with features and advanced hardware, it’s unclear whether this will be the smartphone to finally reverse Nokia’s fortunes. Its continued struggles despite a drastically improved line-up of products underscore the broader difficulties facing all of the vendors in getting support from carriers and interest from consumers. More specifically, there remains a lot of work to revitalize Nokia’s brand and educate consumers on Windows Phone.
