Pokémon Poké Ball Cup: When You Gotta Catch a Drink

I’m sorry to disappoint athletic Pokémon fans out there. This is not a jockstrap, it’s a drinking cup shaped like the monster catching Poké Ball. I’m not sure if it’s licensed, but I’m pretty sure Nintendo would rather license this and release all of its games on iOS than approve a Pokémon Ball Cup.

It holds 20 oz. of liquid. Er, drinks. Dammit you and your dirty minds! You can order one from PartyBell for $3 (USD), although as of this writing they’re on sale for $2.

Leeds Phone Boxes Get Turned into TARDISes, Become Wi-Fi Hubs

It’s about time somebody started painting UK phone boxes in TARDIS blue. My only question is, what took so long? This is now happening in the city of Leeds. They are repainting their red phone boxes in a shade of TARDIS blue. The boxes will also be outfitted with Wi-Fi and touchscreens so they can serve as Wi-Fi hubs.

But that’s not all. The phone boxes are also getting recording devices so that visitors and residents can record their thoughts about Leeds for other people to watch. It will be full of stuff like “Great city, but this TARDIS isn’t even bigger on the inside? Bollocks!”

A company called aql is handling it all. Unfortunately, the boxes won’t be all over the U.K. – just in Leeds. They have to rig them to make the TARDIS sounds though. How could you not add that?

Inhabitat’s Week in Green: floating power plant, water chip and a solar-powered family car

Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week’s most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us — it’s the Week in Green.

DNP Inhabitat's Week in Green

Fresh water is the most precious resource on Earth, and it’s becoming increasingly scarce — but a new invention could make desalination an affordable, cost-effective technology. A team of scientists from Germany and the US has developed a “water chip” that uses an electrical field to separate salt from seawater. That isn’t the only new innovation that has the potential to change the world. This week Inhabitat took a look at the Horizon mass transit system, a futuristic hybrid train-plane propelled by a maglev-style mechanism. The UK celebrated the launch of the world’s largest offshore wind farm, and Apple announced plans to build a 18-20 MW solar plant to power its data center in Reno, Nev. A 15-year-old from Canada created a flashlight that is powered entirely by body heat from a human hand. And in one of the week’s most uplifting stories, an amputee built herself a prosthetic leg out of Legos (it might not be very practical, but it sure is cool).

Best & Worst Beauty Of The Week: Rihanna, Adriana Lima, Kristen Stewart & More (PHOTOS)

Adriana Lima always looks great, but we’ve never pegged her as a dark lipstick gal. That’s why it was so shocking to see her rocking deep red lips this week. As expected, the color looked amazing on her. Rihanna wore a lot of pearls to the Chanel show during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week and Uma Thurman showed us that she just doesn’t age… at all.

At the 2013 BET Awards, stars shined and stumbled. Janelle Monae sported the best pompadour we’ve seen in a while, but someone should probably tell Mya to trim her hair extensions.

Muslim Brotherhood Calls For More Protests In Egypt

CAIRO — Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is calling for protests to denounce the military’s toppling of President Mohammed Morsi, while opponents of the ousted Islamist leader also are urging supporters to take to the streets for mass rallies.

The calls for competing rallies have renewed fears of street violence, two days after clashes between the rival camps left at least 36 people dead and more than 1,000 wounded.

Stray Dog, Girlie, Finds New Home After Living At Power Plant (PHOTOS)

By Liz Acosta, Dogster

This is the story of Girlie. She is only about a year old and her entire life has been a stray one … until now. But we’ll get to that in a second.

Girlie first showed up at the Exelon power plant last summer, and that’s where plant worker Kara noticed her. Even though the dog was far from docile, Girlie and Kara formed a bond that lasted throughout the year. With patience and compassion, Kara slowly earned Girlie’s trust. It was apparent to Kara, who has two agility dogs, that Girlie possessed an innate desire to be around humans, even though her feral nature made her wary.
