Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition: what’s different?

DNP Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition what's different

Several days ago we received a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition to play with and shared our first impressions. This week we take a closer look at what’s different between this handset and its TouchWiz-equipped cousins by scrutinizing the benchmarks, battery life and camera performance. Samsung pleasantly surprised us at Google I/O when it announced a Galaxy S 4 running stock Android. HTC then joined the party with its own unskinned superphone, the One. This Galaxy S 4, which landed in the Play store on June 26th for $649 contract-free, is identical to T-Mobile’s 16GB model and shares the same specs. So, what does stock Android bring to this flagship? How does it compare to the TouchWiz versions? Is anything left behind? Finally, is this Google Play edition worth the extra cash? Hit the break to find out.

Scenes you may have missed: Porn on a train station Jumbotron

The movie in question. Allegedly.

(Credit: TomoNewsUS/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET)

When you get to the middle of a holiday weekend, you might turn to those closest to you and mutter: “Oh, I forgot to tell you about…”

Here’s one event that somehow scarred my mind so much that I can talk about it only now.

Yuan Mou, a Chinese IT worker, was reportedly asked to perform routine maintenance on a vast LED screen near the Jilin railway station.

It seems he may have offered a performance that didn’t quite maintain the standards of public decency.

For, as the South China Morning Post reveals it, passersby were confronted by an impromptu movie screening that they couldn’t just pass by.

It was called “Xin Jin Ping Mei.” This interesting and tasteful work is based on the story of “The Plum in the Golden Vase.”

The slight problem in broadcasting it publicly is that this particular version plumbs the area known to many as pornography. You see, it also goes by the name of “Sex and Chopsticks.”

Log Flume Joust Pool Float

Do you have fond memories of American Gladiator? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you would certainly be pleased to roll back the years with the $34.99 Log Flume Joust Pool Float. This is definitely a log that you would not mind seeing floating around, as it is guaranteed to ensure that the pool does not get shut down. In fact, the Log Flume Joust Pool Float can be said to be the ideal inflation device whenever you and your other half have a dispute or disagreement to settle – why do so in a fun and yet energetic manner?

Of course, it would be a whole lot better if you could get the rest of the household to cheer on their favorite “gladiator”, as the two of you joust against one another, seeing who will get wet first. The loser would obviously have to man the grill at this evening’s BBQ, and to clean up the rest of the eating utensils, too, which should be incentive enough to deliver your best in order to make sure that you end up as the winner. Each purchase comes with a pair of logs and a similar number of boppers, although we do recommend that you would get a foot pump instead of busting your lungs out inflating these.

Climate Change Through Sound: Video Shows Rising Temperatures With Cello Music

This summer has been a tumultuous one so far, weather-wise. Heat waves, wildfires and floods have plagued the nation. Climate change has been at the forefront of the conversation, attracting the attention of President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and even the former CEO of two power companies.

While scientists and activists have tried a number of ways to relay the magnitude of the climate situation, charts and statistics don’t necessarily resonate with everyone. That is why Daniel Crawford, a student at the University of Minnesota, has come up with a new way to visualize our warming planet: by utilizing sound as a measure of temperature.

Watch the video above to see how global change can be expressed through music.

Justin Timberlake’s ’20/20 Experience’ Is Best-Selling Album Of 2013 So Far, Moving A Whopping 2 Million Units

Justin Timberlake’s banner year just keeps on escalating, and as of last week he now boasts the only album to sell more than 2 million copies. “The 20/20 Experience” has far outsold its nearest competitor, Bruno Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox,” topping the album by more than 1 million units, according to midyear figures released by Nielsen SoundScan.

Mars’ 985,000 places him ahead of Mumford & Son’s Album of the Year-winning “Babel,” which was released last October and has racked up another 884,000 copies sold this year. Rounding out the top five best-sellers are Blake Shelton’s “Based on a True Story,” with 703,000, and Imagine Dragons’ “Night Visions,” with 692,000.

In other midyear records, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have continued their winning streak by producing the most digital sales: 5.56 million for their monstrous hit “Thrift Shop.” The duo tops Gotye’s record from the same time last year, 5.5 million for “Somebody That I Used To Know.” Other top downloads include Pink’s “Just Give Me a Reason” (3.4 million), Rihanna’s “Stay” (3.3 million) and Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive” (3.2 million).
