AT&T updates Wireless Home Phone service with LTE internet in new bundle

Big Blue’s been doing its best to catch the eye of nostalgic folks who miss the era of landlines. After introducing prepaid options for Wireless Home Phone in May, Ma Bell’s now extending the service with internet over LTE. An AT&T spokesperson told us that the new Wireless Home Phone and Internet bundle debuted in select locations (listed below) on Friday. A two-year subscription comes with a free router that can connect up to 10 WiFi devices, but it’ll cost you at least $80 a month for unlimited local calls plus 10GB of data. Ponying up $90 each month nets 20GB of data, while boosting the bill to $120 nabs 30GB. Thanks to an additional $10 charge for every gigabyte over your cap, however, wired home broadband may still be your best (read: cheapest) bet if you stream movies and TV shows frequently.

AT&T Wireless Home Phone an Internet bundle markets:

  • Baltimore
  • Delaware
  • Eastern Pennsylvania
  • Southern New Jersey
  • Virginia
  • Washington D.C.
  • West Virginia

Flood Force Water Cannon never needs to be refilled

Summer is in full force, which means everyone is trying to find creative ways to beat the heat. This is especially important if you have kids, because you want them to be outside having fun, but you don’t want them to get overheated. One of my favorite past times involves a group of friends shooting each other with squirt guns. The only downside to this fun was that you had to keep stopping to refill them. But what if you had a squirt gun that never needed refilling?

This Flood Force Water Cannon from Swimways is like a squirt gun that has an unlimited ammo supply. The only downside is that you’ll need to be in a pool to take advantage of that feature. However, it does have a reservoir, should you want to emerge from the water and track down someone to soak. Otherwise, just make sure that the base is submerged, and crank away at the handle to ensure that everyone within range is just as wet as you are.

This fun toy is a cheap way to have some summer fun, at just $15. Unfortunately that doesn’t include the cost of the swimming pool that you’ll need to enjoy it to its fullest. You’ll have to buy that separately.

Samsung’s Android-powered Galaxy NX hits UK retailers at a weighty £1,299 ($2,000)

Image

We expected the Samsung Galaxy NX camera to cost a bundle when it was first announced, and if pricing from UK retailer Jessops proves accurate, we aren’t going to be “disappointed.” The Android-powered mirrorless model will run £1,299 ($2,000 or so) with an 18-55mm kit lens, more than Canon’s fearsome EOS 70D and pushing Panasonic’s flagship GH-3. As you may recall, the Galaxy NX is the first-ever interchangeable-lens camera to run Android, and packs 3G / 4G LTE radios along with a 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, 8.6fps shooting speed, WiFi, 16GB built-in storage, and 1/6000 shutter speed. We noted such strange bedfellows might make it a hard sell, especially considering some shortcomings for demanding photographers, like a slow start-up time and lack of manual dials. Jessops is showing the model in stock, while another retailer called Wex merely has it up for pre-order, so we’re not sure which has it straight. In any event, if you’re one of the few who thought high-end cameras really needed an Android OS, hit the sources.

Mercedes-Benz Wants To Use Google Glass To Provide A Seamless GPS Experience

Mercedes Benz Wants To Use Google Glass To Provide A Seamless GPS Experience

GPS navigational systems have evolved over the years, with our smartphones these days being more than capable of doubling up as a navigation system as well, but sometimes just because you can be directed to your destination, there are times when you still need to do a bit of searching before you find it. An example would be how a navigation system could guide you to a particular area, but finding the shop itself could be tricky, or there might not be a drivable road. Well Mercedes-Benz is hoping to change that with Google Glass.

This was revealed (via Business Journal) by the company’s R&D president of North America, Johann Jungwirth, where he revealed the company’s plans to utilize Google Glass to help create a seamless transition between states, such as driving to walking, and vice versa. This would basically allow the user to keep in their destination at home, walk to their car where the GPS would switch to drive mode, and then when they get down from their car, it would switch to walking mode.

Android Tablets Command 67% Of Tablet Market, Beats Out The iPad

Android Tablets Command 67% Of Tablet Market, Beats Out The iPadApple’s iPad has dominated the tablet scene for a long time, and given its construction and familiar operating system and overall ease of use, it is understandable. However with Android manufacturers starting to introduce cheaper and more powerful Android tablets, like the new Nexus 7, it is not surprising that Apple’s market share for tablets has been chipped away, and a new report by Strategy Analytics has shown that Android’s tablet market share has grown to 67% in the second quarter of 2013, while Apple’s market share has fallen to 28%, with Microsoft falling to 4.5%.

Of course Android’s tablet market share is the combination of a variety of manufacturers from Samsung, ASUS, Google, Amazon, and etc., so it isn’t surprising that their combined market share is that high. According to Strategy Analytics Director of Tablets, Peter King, he attributes Apple’s decline due to lack of new models introduced in that quarter. Apple’s iPad usually sees refreshes early in the year, but with the last iPad model being introduced late last year along with the iPad mini, we expect that new tablets to be introduced around the same time later this year, so perhaps Apple’s numbers will change then, but for now Android appears to be dominating.

Is This The Porsche Design BlackBerry Z10?

Is This The Porsche Design BlackBerry Z10?Earlier we had reported that thanks to a recently spotted image in on Vietnamese website Tinhte, a battery cover that was reminiscent of the Porsche P’9881 was sighted. This led to speculation that perhaps BlackBerry could be working on a Porsche version of a BlackBerry 10 device, and now thanks to additional leaked photos (via BlackBerry Vietnam), it appears that a Porsche BlackBerry 10 device could be true! The photos are pretty grainy and it’s hard to tell what the whole device looks like, but apparently the device is said to resemble the Z10, albeit with Porsche design elements added to it.

The report goes on to state that not only will the Z10 get a Porsche makeover, but apparently the Q10 will be getting the Porsche treatment as well! Of course it is entirely possible that the image we are looking at is a fake, so take it with a grain of salt for now, but with the Porsche P’9881 priced at $2,000, we don’t expect the Porsche versions of the Z10 and Q10 to be picked up by your average BlackBerry user, but what do you guys think anyway? Yay or nay to a Porsche BlackBerry 10 device?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Catches Fire, Burns Down Apartment In Hong Kong

Samsung Galaxy S4 Catches Fire, Burns Down Apartment In Hong KongRecently we’ve come across stories where people have been electrocuted whilst charging their iPhones, and now it looks like even Samsung’s Galaxy S4 has not been spared, although in this case no one was harmed, although an apartment was burnt down in the process. According to the report, a certain Mr. Du from Hong Kong was playing a game on his Galaxy S4 when it suddenly exploded into flames. Naturally he panicked and threw the phone across the room where it landed under his sofa, which then caught fire and burnt the entire apartment down, the results of which can be seen in the photo above.

Given that unofficial products can be dangerous, as highlighted by Apple in a recent statement made with regards to the recent bouts of electrocutions, Du claims that he was using official products, although as you can see in the photo above, the damage is so extensive that it will be hard to tell. It’s hard to believe that so much damage could have occurred as the result of a phone caught on fire, but then again it does not take much for fire to spread. Samsung has stated that they are looking into the matter and that they will also be running a chemical analysis on the rubble to see if Du’s products were really official Samsung products.

Apple Store Employee Files Lawsuit Against Company Over Lost Wages

Apple Store Employee Files Lawsuit Against Company Over Lost WagesApple’s products, whether you love or hate them, are highly desirable and we have heard stories where Apple’s retail stores have been robbed. While some robberies are outside jobs, we wouldn’t be surprised if some theft occurred internally as well, which is why it isn’t surprising to learn that Apple has made it mandatory to check the bags of employees before they go on lunch or end their shift, to make sure that the employees have stolen merchandize or have taken out items without permission, along with contraband.

Unfortunately for employees at Apple retail stores, it seems that these checks occur while they are off the clock, meaning that they are not getting paid while they are having their bags searched. While it might be a rather quick process, it seems that since many employees clock out at the same time, the wait can be pretty long and one employee in particular, Amanda Frlekin, has filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming about $1,500 in unpaid wages due to them being searched while off the clock. The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages and was filed on behalf of thousands of Apple Store employees across the country. Apple has yet to respond to this complaint.

iPhone 4 Attributed To Surge In iPhone Sales In The UK

iPhone 4 Attributed To Surge In iPhone Sales In The UK

The iPhone 4 is two generations old, making it pretty old as far as smartphone technology is concerned, but apparently there is still plenty of appeal left to the device, possibly aided by its lower price tag. This is according to a new sales report from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech who reports that during the period of May to June 2013, Apple enjoyed a surge of sales which was largely thanks to the iPhone 4 which managed to catapult Apple’s market share in the UK up by 5.2%, putting them at around 30.5% of the British smartphone market.

Kantar analyst Dominic Sunnebo attributes the sales to the affordability of the iPhone 4, making it appealing to first-time smartphone buyers who might not be that keen on spending that much money on a high-end iPhone. According to Sunnebo, “Much of the market share growth for iOS in Britain is thanks to the competitively priced iPhone 4 attracting first time smartphone buyers. More than a third of iPhone 4′s sold were to consumers who have never owned a smartphone before, compared with just one in 10 new customers buying the iPhone 5.”
