Sony NEX-5T Name Confirmed By Taiwan’s NCC Agency

Sony NEX 5T Name Confirmed By Taiwans NCC AgencyA couple of weeks ago thanks to a rumor, word on the street was that Sony could be looking to announce a new camera called the NEX-5T in the near future. While the exact specifications of the NEX-5T remain a mystery, at the very least the existence of the device has been confirmed thanks to a recent registration for the “Sony NEX-5T” by the Taiwan NCC Agency. Unfortunately apart from the name that was sighted in the registration, the specifications of the camera were not revealed, so we guess we will just have to wait and see what Sony has in store for us, although assuming that it is part of the NEX-5 lineup of mirrorless cameras, we guess some of you guys should be able to guess the type of specs and features that we might be able to expect. In any case with this “confirmation”, we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more information, so be sure to check back with us down the road for more updates!

Bicycle turn signals get the Ben Heck mod treatment (video)

Bicycle turn signals get the Ben Heck mod treatment (video)

Ben Heck’s devised hacks for everything from console mashups to wheelchairs, and now he’s turned his attention to the humble bicycle turn indicator — something we’ve seen reinvented from time to time. Heck’s take on the device uses a LilyPad Arduino and a backpack modified with an array of lights in the shape of two arrows. Merely pick a direction by jabbing one of the satchel’s shoulder pads with your chin, and the appropriate lights will blink for 20 seconds. Sure, the existing contraption is slated for a giveaway, but the build process will be detailed on the next Ben Heck Show this Friday. To catch a glimpse of the construction in advance, mosey past the break for a quick video preview.

Microsoft Surface RT Sold Out At Walmart Due To Price Cut

Microsoft Surface RT Sold Out At Walmart Due To Price CutThe Microsoft Surface tablet when first debuted was hailed as the iPad killer, thanks to a familiar operating system and impressive build quality. Unfortunately the tablet did not go on to be the iPad killer that some had hoped, and to help cut their losses and salvage what they can, Microsoft decided to reduce the price of the tablet by $150 and ultimately write-down $900 million worth of inventory. Well it turns out that the price cut might have helped out a bit because as far as Walmart is concerned, they have managed to sell out their inventory of Microsoft Surface RT tablets.

For those who are looking to get their hands on the tablet, fret not because Walmart expects to get more units in the store sometime this week. Some believed that reducing the price would not help improve sales, and while one retailer stocking out hardly counts as a victory, perhaps down the road we will start seeing more retailers make more Surface RT sales due to the reduced price, a move which helped companies such as HP move their now-defunct TouchPad tablet.

Windows Phone US Market Share Falls To 4%

Windows Phone US Market Share Falls To 4%Yesterday we reported that Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system appeared to be doing quite well for itself in the UK, nabbing about 8.1% of market share which put them ahead of their competitor, BlackBerry. While that is definitely good news for Microsoft and cause for celebration, over in the US it seems that Microsoft just can’t seem to get out of the shadow of iOS and Android, and according to the latest figures released by Kantar, Windows Phone currently sits at 4% of the market in June 2013, compared to back in April 2013 where they peaked at 5.6%.

However when it came down to individual carriers, AT&T’s sales of Windows Phone devices remained somewhat stable at around 4.5%, although admittedly it was down by 0.2% when it was up at 4.7% in April. Verizon on the other hand does not appear to be selling as many Windows Phone devices and the latest figures show that Windows Phone sits at 5% and is down from 6.8% in April earlier this year. While Microsoft appears to be doing quite well in Europe, we guess they should really start focusing their efforts in the US as well.

Canon Sends Out Invites For 21st August Event

Canon Sends Out Invites For 21st August EventOver the past couple of weeks and months, we’ve been hearing a fair bit of Canon-related rumors, and whether those rumors pan out remains to be seen, although we guess we might not have to wait too long to see if any of them are true because it seems that Canon is sending out invites to an event that will be held on the 21st of August. The event will be held at Canon’s new HQ in New York and while the invite did not state what sort of new products we might be able to expect, the we’ve been hearing rumors about a certain new EOS M mirrorless camera that will be the successor, or update, to the current model.

We’ve also heard rumblings of a certain EOS 7D MK II, although the rumors have suggested that the camera could only be announced in 2014. Either way we expect new products from Canon, although the question is whether it will be what the rumors have been saying, or if these will be entirely different products, but be sure to check back with us on the 21st of August for the details!

Panasonic GX7 specs and images leak, show tiltable 2.76 million dot EVF

Panasonic GX7 specs and images leak, show tiltable EVF and 108060p video

Prolific leaker Digicame Info has just showed off new images of Panasonic’s likely new 16-megapixel Lumix GX7, along with full specs that place it squarely in the high-end, if accurate. Those include a 2.76 million dot EVF that can be tilted 90 degrees, 1/8000th of a second shutter speed, and in-body image stabilization — all of which exceed the company’s $1,500 GH-3 flagship. Other features include a 25,600 max ISO, silent mode shooting, NFC, WiFi, focus peaking, an 80-degree tiltable LCD and full HD, 60 fps video. If 43 Rumors is to be believed, all of that will cost around 1,000 in Europe for the body only (around $1,325). There’s no word on an official arrival yet, but if you’re in the market for a GH-3 and were hoping for something lighter (and cheaper), you may want to hang on. Head after the break to see the tilt EVF, or check the source for more pics.

Nintendo Wii U Being Dropped By UK Retailer From All Its Stores

Nintendo Wii U Being Dropped By UK Retailer From All Its StoresWhile Nintendo probably had a lot of hopes and good intentions behind their Wii U console, unfortunately the console has not managed to catch on and generate the same amount of hype and excitement that the Sony PS4 and the Microsoft Xbox One has, so much so it seems that one retailer in the UK, Asda, will no longer be stocking the Wii U console, its games or its accessories across its 555 locations. However for those who still need their Wii U games, there are always alternative retailers, although Asda did state that they will continue selling Wii U games through their online website although it will be on a case-by-case basis.

This is definitely not good news for Nintendo who has been struggling with their Wii U console, with Nintendo executives reportedly putting some of the blame on the 2011 Tohoku earthquake as one of the reasons why the Wii U and the 3DS handheld console’s sales have been bad. There are still some titles from Nintendo that have yet to be released, such as Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. which will undoubtedly attract a lot of interest, but will those titles be enough? We guess we will just have to wait and see!
