Guitar Hero Co Inventors Want To Make Exercising Fun With Accessories And Games

For a lot of us, exercise can be quite boring and running on the treadmill for an hour straight is probably one of the dullest things possible, but what if exercise could be fun? What if you could do something that would be considered exercise, but at the same time be enjoyable to the point where you forget it’s exercise? Well that’s what the folks at Blue Goji hopes to do with their new game. For those unfamiliar, Blue Goji is a new startup that was quietly founded back in 2011 by the co-inventors of Guitar Hero, Kai and Charles Huang.

Speaking to AllThingsD, Blue Goji revealed their plans to make games and fitness accessories that will make time past faster while exercising. These accessories are expected to be made available by the end of the year, and not only do these accessories track your progress, but allow the user to control specific types of games as well. Unfortunately details are a bit scarce at this point, but according to Blue Goji’s CEO, Kai Huang, “The objective is to make them so fun that you want to come back, and you want to play them, and fitness becomes a byproduct.” Sounds like something a lot of us could use and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got!

StarCraft 2 2.0.10 Patch Adds eSport Features And Color Blind Mode

Playing StarCraft 2 undoubtedly requires a lot of skill, so much so that the game and its predecessor have both enjoyed the competition circuit and are part of eSports. Well the good news for StarCraft 2 gamers who take the game pretty seriously in the competitive sense, Blizzard will be rolling out patch 2.0.10 this week which will be adding your usual bout of bug fixes, balances, along with some new eSports features and even a color blind mode that will assist players who might be afflicted with the problem.

Blizzard has updated the UI that will allow players to customize the Observe Interface and let them choose between a more detailed layout, or a more lightweight one. The new UI will also support additional zoom levels that will allow observers to gain a wider perspective along with a “Units Lost” overlay. Scrubbing the replays has also been made easier as Blizzard has made some improvements that will allow observers watching replays to find particular areas within a multiplayer match. Diablo 3′s Auction House Had A Detrimental Effect, According To Diablo & Diablo 2 Lead Designer

Diablo 3s Auction House Had A Detrimental Effect, According To Diablo & Diablo 2 Lead DesignerWhen Blizzard announced the auction house feature in Diablo 3, we guess it would be safe to say that there were at least two sets of gamers – one that did not mind the auction house and actually welcomed it, and the other that felt that this would detract from the fun that comes with grinding levels and farming for hours to land that super-legendary piece of armor or weapon. Unsurprisingly it seems that even within Blizzard, not everyone was a fan of the auction house and Diablo and Diablo 2’s lead designer, Stieg Hedlund, felt that it had a detrimental effect on the game.

Speaking to PCGamer, Hedlund was quoted as saying, “I think it had detrimental effects on gameplay throughout […] They did want to reserve a certain tier of loot for the auction house, and therefore it wasn’t dropping in the game with the kind of frequency that people were looking for it.” Despite that, Hedlund also expressed his understanding of why Blizzard implemented the feature in the first place, which according to him was more like a reward to the game developers who put in a lot of effort and time into creating the game.

This is not the first time we’ve heard criticism of the auction house as former game director, Jay Wilson, had previously expressed how he thought the auction house had hurt the game.

New Mortal Kombat Title In Development

New Mortal Kombat Title In DevelopmentAt the end of 2011, NetherRealm Studios announced that they would be putting the Mortal Kombat franchise on hiatus. Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to a new Mortal Kombat game, it looks like the hiatus could be off as it seems that a new Mortal Kombat game is reportedly in the works. This was confirmed by Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloan (via GamerHub.tv) during Comic-Con this year. There is no official title yet and details about the game remain scarce, but according to Sloane, the game is expected to be released alongside the launch of the new Mortal Kombat movie.

Sloane was quoted as saying, “We’ve been in greenlight committee for a while at the studio and we’ve got a great script […] And we’ve got a great director with Kevin Tancharoen, who is on board. It’s just figuring out the business side of it and when we would do it and when we would launch it and how do we sync up with the launch of the game that they’re working on now. It’s not 100 per cent yet, but we’re getting closer every day.” The last we heard, the next Mortal Kombat title was expected to be developed for next-gen consoles, but since no official details have been given, we guess we will just have to wait and find out. So, who else is excited by this news?

HTC: the One is selling better than last year’s hero products, but next quarter may see a loss

Image

HTC’s unaudited results for Q2 2013 showed a sign of hope, but in today’s call for the Q3 guidance, the Taiwanese company expects next quarter’s revenue to be in the range of $1.67 billion to $2 billion, with an operating profit of anything from $0 down to… well, a margin of -minus 8 percent, which would equate to a horrible loss. This is also a notable drop from last year’s $2.4 billion revenue and $168 million operating profit.

CEO Peter Chou blames this decline on the higher cost structure (bill of materials and operating costs) and the clearance of aged inventory in the channel, but he hopes that Q3 will be the bottom in terms of HTC’s profitability. CFO Chialin Chang added that his team has a few actions in place to help restore the company to profitability very soon.

Excessive Gaming Might Lead To Suicidal Thoughts, According To Study

Excessive Gaming Might Lead To Suicidal Thoughts, According To StudyWhile many of us enjoy video games, there are always those who are against it for some reason or the other. Some blame video games for causing violence, while others find that video games actually has medical benefits, but this latest study conducted by Dr. Eric Lewkowiez, a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at Georgia Regents University, it seems that according to his study, playing too much video games can always lead to suicidal thoughts! Admittedly playing video games can get frustrating when you’re stuck at a level you can’t pass, or if you’re playing with an inept team mate, and while that frustration can lead to destruction of personal property, could it actually lead to suicide?

According to Dr. Lewkowiez, “There’s an increase a risk of suicidal thinking….Another thing that we know is if you’re playing video games that takes away from your school work, your grades are going to suffer.” He goes on to state that those who are most susceptible to these thoughts are those aged 13 years and younger. He claims that he has patients telling him that they have nightmares due to these games and have a hard time sleeping at night. Unsurprisingly Dr. Lewkowiez advocates moderation when it comes to playing video games, a sentiment which we wholeheartedly support, but what do you guys think?

iPhone 5S Fingerprint Scanning Technology Reportedly Confirmed In iOS 7 Beta

iPhone 5S Fingerprint Scanning Technology Reportedly Confirmed In iOS 7 BetaWe’ve heard rumors that the iPhone 5S could incorporate fingerprint scanning technology into the device, although what its exact purpose is remains unknown, but security would probably be a good use for it. Admittedly fingerprint scanning technology seems a little odd and would definitely be something new that Apple is trying out, but it looks like those rumors might not be so far-fetched after all! According to the latest iOS 7 beta (via 9to5Mac) as sighted by developer Hamza Sood, a folder titled “BiometricKitUI” was found and according to the description, users would be able to swipe the sensor on the home button to make use of the feature, although it did was not specified that it would related to fingerprint technology, but it definitely sounds like it!

This seems to contradict earlier rumors that suggested that the fingerprint scanner would be embedded in the display of the phone itself. Assuming that this technology will debut in the iPhone 5S, it would be pretty interesting considering that the iPhone “S” models are slight upgrades over their predecessors, as opposed to introducing new hardware features. In any case we expect Apple to announce the iPhone 5S and the iPhone Lite (or iPhone 5C) later this year so hopefully more details will be revealed then!

BlackBerry 10 Battery Cover Hints At Possible Porsche Edition

BlackBerry 10 Battery Cover Hints At Possible Porsche EditionVietnamese website Tinhte has been pretty good with their leaks and have even uploaded reviews of products that have yet to hit the market, and in a recent forum post, photos of a BlackBerry battery cover were upload that has led to speculation that perhaps BlackBerry could once again be collaborating with Porsche for a Porsche version of a BlackBerry 10 device. According to the description of the battery cover, it is made with genuine leather and even features carbon fiber material on the inside with NFC technology as well, and its design is also somewhat reminiscent of the Porsche P’9881.

Of course it could be a fake, but given that the Porsche P’9881 actually sold pretty well, especially among celebrities, why wouldn’t BlackBerry attempt something similar with a BlackBerry 10 device, right? For those wondering, the Porsche P’9881 was priced at $2,000 and was sold in limited quantities, so we’d hate to think how much a BlackBerry 10 version of the device would cost! What do you guys think? Would you be interested in a Porsche BlackBerry 10 device?
