Treat HIV Early To Stop Spread, WHO Says

LONDON — Young children and certain other people with the AIDS virus should be started on medicines as soon as they are diagnosed, the World Health Organization says in new guidelines that also recommend earlier treatment for adults.

The advice will have the most impact in Africa, where nearly 70 percent of people with HIV live. Many rich countries already advocate early treatment. WHO’s new guidelines were released Sunday at the International AIDS Society meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Groupon takes on OpenTable with ‘Groupon Reserve,’ bundles reservations with coupons

Groupon takes on OpenTable with 'Groupon Reserve,' bundles reservations with coupons

Not satisfied with simply locking down your discount mountain-climbing lessons and hot stone massages, Groupon announced Groupon Reserve this morning, which aims to bundle time-based discounts with restaurant reservations. Groupon’s tapping Savored.com’s reservation tech to handle the heavy-lifting behind the scenes — the service is already live in 10 markets, including New York City and Los Angeles, and seemingly goes after OpenTable head-on.

Of course, Groupon Reserve isn’t quite the same service as OpenTable. With Reserve, you plug in a time, party size, date and city, and you’re offered a variety of restaurant options with discounts, whereas with OpenTable you’re simply plugging in the aforementioned info and looking for a spot. Though Groupon Reserve only handles restaurant reservations thus far, the plan is for “spas, salons and hotels” in the coming months; ambiguous options from “top beauty, product, travel and entertainment brands” are also in the cards. Groupon Reserve will reach international shores and even more US cities “by the end of 2013.” Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re arranging a more affordable date at Butter. We’re pretty fancy.

SAN FRANCISCO — Gay rights supporters crowded parade routes in San Francisco, New York and other major U.S. cities to celebrate what once was unimaginable – two Supreme Court victories on same-sex marriage.

The high court gave celebrants one more reason to cheer Sunday when Justice Anthony Kennedy rejected a last-ditch effort by opponents to stop gay marriages in California.

Prada Cast A Black Campaign Model For The First Time In 19 Years

Christy Turlington’s inclusion in this fall’s Prada campaign is the main focus of Women’s Wear Daily’s story on the new ads — but forgive us if we think the venerable trade is guilty in this instance of burying the lede. The real news here is that, for the first time since the fall of 1994, there’s a black face of Prada.

The black model in the campaign, one of seven models who appear in the new ads, goes unnamed in WWD’s story. She is Malaika Firth, a Kenyan-born, U.K.-raised, biracial 19-year-old who has been modeling since 2011. Firth was a newborn in diapers the last time a black woman was a face of Prada. Prada’s fall ads also include the Chinese model Fei Fei Sun.

Robot Trash Talks Golfer Rory Mcilroy

I’m not a golf fan, so I had no idea who Rory Mcilroy was before seeing this video, but even if the only time you’ve ever seen a golf ball is at Putt-Putt, it’s still a fun watch. This robot trash talks Rory on the golf course while the pair of them hit balls at washing machines. Apparently, Rory is famous for doing this since he was a kid – not the robot part – the washing machine part.

golf robot
It’s pretty entertaining to watch this robot crack wise throughout the video. Is this how Golf is nowadays? Hell, I should be playing. I didn’t know you got to pair up with a smartass robot and hit household appliances with balls.

The video comes from The European Tour and is a great way to promote the event. The robot is the Golf Laboratory Computer Controlled Hitting Machine (aka “Geoff”), and he should be a permanent fixture on the golf circuit.

Goal Zero Yeti 150 and Yeti 400 Solar Generators ensures you have juice at all times

Sure, many of us have at the bare minimum, one smartphone with us at all times, while others who are more liberal with their wallets have an iPad or tablet device to play around with, not to mention majority of the modern day workforce relying on a notebook or Ultrabook to get their work done on the go. This has certainly led one to think along the lines of ensuring that every single device must be charged the night before so that they have enough juice to last at least throughout the next day. While this is the ideal situation, it does not happen the way you want to all the time, and in the event of an emergency, what are you going to do? This is where the Goal Zero Yeti 150 and Yeti 400 Solar Generators would come in handy, also helping those who want to be prepared for the fast approaching 2013 hurricane season complete their preparations.

The Yeti 400 tips the scales at 29 pounds, and yet it can deliver 400 watt-hours of power, which is the same amount required to juice a smartphone 30 times over, a laptop 5 times, being able to power a TV for 3 hours (although I am quite sure that the brightness level does affect the final count), or even more than 100 hours of light thanks to Goal Zero’s Light-a-Life LED lantern. You can juice up the Yeti 400 from a wall power outlet in a matter of 5 hours, or just like Kal-El, use the sun and wait for 30 hours thanks to the Nomad 27 Solar Panel.

The smaller sized but similarly equipped Yeti 150 Solar Generator will be able to carry enough juice to have it deliver 50 hours of light, 15 smartphone recharges, 6 tablet recharges or 2 laptop recharges, all the while tipping the scales at a relatively lightweight 12 lbs, now how about that? It takes 24 hours under direct sunlight to charge to its maximum capacity, or 5 hours via a wall outlet. You can pick up the Yeti 150 and Yeti 400 Solar Generators for $199.99 and $459.99, respectively.
