Huge Mushroom Might Be One Of The World’s Largest (VIDEO)

Is this one of the biggest mushroom in the world? A gargantuan fungus weighing more than 33 pounds and measuring 36 inches in diameter was recently discovered in Puxiong, a town in China’s Yunnan province.

For comparison’s sake, the average human head weighs eight pounds and measures 21.6 inches in diameter.

The mushroom has more than 100 caps attached to a thick stem and is gray in color. It’s still unclear at this point what type of mushroom it is — or if it’s poisonous.

Jimmy Carter Going To North Korea On Private Trip: White House

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) – Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is traveling to North Korea on a private trip, the White House said on Monday, commenting on reports that Carter was going to the reclusive nation soon to win release of an American citizen being held there.

Earlier on Monday a representative for Carter said he had no immediate plans to make such a trip.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Carter was going on his own.

“President Carter is traveling to North Korea on a private trip. He’s doing that in his personal capacity,” Earnest said.

Can Brands Really Become Publishers: Remedial Help, Beyond the Hype?

Can Brands Really Become Publishers: Remedial Help, Beyond the Hype?

The ‘brand as publisher’ trend is super hot right now. From Red Bull to Amex and Coca Cola, many brands are making serious moves to position themselves as storytellers and content creators – often in ways that are disconnected to direct sales and calls to action.

Beyond the buzzword, however, the reality is that this movement is a challenge.

Red Bull, Amex and Coca Cola are the exceptions, not the rule. Most brands are not wired to be publishers. Their internal marketing teams have been built to be internal marketing teams rather than ‘always on’ newsrooms with a rich and agile set of content skills.

Consequently, most brands struggle to provide their audiences with content that has real value across all consumer touch points.

BMW i3 Electric Car Unveiled

BMW i3 Electric Car UnveiledWe did check out the BMW i3 electric car back when it was a concept as well as a prototype, but I guess the day has finally arrived where BMW unveiled its first mass-production electric car, aptly known as the BMW i3. According to BMW, do not thumb your noses down on the BMW i3, as it is capable of accelerating from 0-60 miles an hour in a matter of seven seconds or so, while a full charge of its battery would be able to give you a range approximately 100 miles.

The BMW i3 is tipped to go on sale Stateside not this year, but sometime in the second quarter of next year, with an estimated sticker price of $41,350 before one takes into consideration federal tax breaks and other incentives. There is also an optional “range extender” which comes in the form of a tiny gasoline motor which should see the price tag increase to touch the $45,000 mark. One thing’s for sure, rides like the BMW i3 will be able to meet future emissions regulations in most regions, making it the ideal purchase, but one thing that needs to be worked on would be the range as well as revamping the existing infrastructure of a country to accommodate the presence of electric cars to make them easier to own and maintain.

And Vinyly Transforms Ashes Of Bodies Into Vinyl Records

And Vinyly Transforms Ashes Of Bodies Into Vinyl RecordsSince land is getting more and more scarce these days in certain countries, it makes more sense to send a body for cremation after death than to settle for burial. Apart from your ashes after you’ve left this life, your worldly possessions, in addition to photos and videos, will be some of the things that your loved ones are able to remember you by. How about experiencing a paradigm shift even after cremation by using your ashes to be turned into custom vinyl records that can be played on a record player? This is what British company And Vinyly is promoting.

There is a bunch of package deals offered by And Vinyly, where a basic run of 30 LPs would set you back by approximately $4,600. Once the cremation process is over, your ashes will be sent to a record pressing plant, and it will be mixed into the vinyl pellets that are then used to press the discs. Here’s wondering whether the plant will clean out the presses thoroughly before they continue with regular pressings, otherwise you might end up on more records than originally thought! I guess the toughest bit would be to decide just which songs you would want to end up on the vinyl, right?

How Much Happens on the Internet Every 60 Seconds?

How Much Happens on the Internet Every 60 Seconds?

Think about your activity on the internet at any given minute—chances are it’s all over the place. You could very easily be jumping from Twitter to Facebook, listening to Spotify, shooting off an email, downloading a movie, reading a news site, Googling background info to better understand aforementioned news site, and that’s just on a slow day. Now extrapolate that out to the billions of people online every minute of every day. So suffice it to say, the internet’s pretty bumpin’ on a consistent basis. But just how bumpin’, you ask?

Molecular robots latch onto cells, ID them for drugs

The molecular bots were used in experiments with lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell.

(Credit: Wikimedia Commons)

Sometimes I can’t believe that it’s 2013 and we still don’t have tiny, disease-fighting robots swimming around in our bodies.

Well, researchers at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and Columbia University haven’t created exactly that, but they have produced little critters that can latch onto targeted cells and “label” them.

The so-called molecular robots (aka molecular automata) are made up of antibodies and short snippets of DNA.

In a study in Nature Nanotechnology, the researchers described how these molecular robots could help design drugs that target harmful cells and leave surrounding beneficial cells alone.

SPOT Gen3 For The Adventurer In You

SPOT Gen3 For The Adventurer In YouSome things are capable of withstanding the test of time, especially in terms of design, although there are moments when we wished that a refresh could be on the way. Case in point, the SPOT Gen3, where the name obviously gives the game away that this is the third generation device of its kind. The SPOT Gen3 is an outdoor beacon that certainly looks pretty much the same as the 2007 model, but just like a good book, one should not judge it according to its cover.

The third iteration of the SPOT Gen3 was specially designed to help those who love to go adventuring in the vast forests, or for folks who have been bitten by the wanderlust bug, to help their friends and loved ones know just where they are. Specially designed to be worn and used in places which are off the grid, the SPOT Gen3 will see the inclusion of unlimited tracking capability (where wearers can pre-set the device to send tracks every 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes), motion activated tracking and a far longer battery life than before – we are talking about nearly double the length of time compared to its predecessors. The SPOT Gen3 will not come cheap, however, as it costs $149.95 a pop and will need to be accompanied by an annual subscription plan of $149.99 per year. [Product Page]
