Nestlé – KitKat – 2013 summer seasonal special flavors

Nestlé - KitKat - 2013 summer seasonal special flavors

Nestlé in Japan releases unique flavored KitKats seasonally, a tradition that they have been doing for a long time. You can probably find Maccha Kitkat (green tea flavor) outside of Japan. But the variety of the flavors you see here in Japan is a whole different world.

A few months ago, we talked about the fact that Nestlé in Japan makes regional and seasonal KitKats and we heard that news was pretty interesting for those who don’t live in Japan. Today we introduce the 2013 summer flavors – all sold for a limited time only:

– Nestlé KitKat Mini Passion Fruit

– Nestlé KitKat Mini World Assort: an assortment of 2 popular flavors from the past: Orange and Hazelnut

– Also, Nestlé has released 3 products that taste better after putting them in the freezer:

1) Nestlé KitKat Mini Cookies & Cream
2) Nestlé Aero Mini Chocolate Mint
3) Nestlé Crunch Mini Caramel & Vanilla

If you have a chance to visit Japan, get some unique flavored Kitkats. They could be a great and inexpensive Japan “omiyage” (souvenir).

MediaTek’s MT8135 SoC does dual-core big.LITTLE MP, packs PowerVR Series6 GPU

MediaTek's MT8135 SoC does bigLITTLE with dual CortexA15 and dual CortexA7

It’ll be a while before MediaTek’s true octa-core SoC makes its glorious arrival, but for the time being, the company’s unveiling something just as interesting — and perhaps more practical. The new MT8135 announced today is a “quad-core” SoC aimed at “the middle- to high-end tier of the tablet OEM market.” We quote “quad-core,” because it actually consists of two clusters: dual Cortex-A15 cores and dual Cortex-A7 cores. But the good news is that unlike the original big.LITTLE configuration where only one cluster can operate at any given time (depending on how heavy the workload is), MediaTek’s confirmed that it has implemented big.LITTLE MP (“MP” as in heterogeneous multi-processing) in the MT8135, meaning both the A15 and the A7 clusters can operate simultaneously.

Another highlight of this MT8135 is that it’ll be one of the first SoCs — alongside LG’s H13 (which we’ve seen first-hand), Renesas’ APE6 and Renesas’ R-Car H2 — to come with Imagination Technologies’ almighty PowerVR Series6 GPU. Specifically, this is the PowerVR G6200 which, as part of the MT8135, can apparently deliver “up to four times more ALU (arithmetic logic unit) horsepower” than the Series5XT GPU on the cheaper, quad-A7 MT8125. And unsurprisingly, the MT8135 gets the same Miracast wireless video goodie given to the MT8125; though it’s also worth noting that the latter only supports LPDDR2 RAM instead of the more powerful LPDDR3.

Sadly, there’s no further information regarding availability, but you can kill some time by checking out more technical details in the video (with benchmarks) and press releases after the break.

Apple’s new suppliers are ‘even worse’ than Foxconn, says China Labor Watch

Image

Just as Pegatron has managed to snatch more Apple contracts away from Foxconn, so too has it attracted greater scrutiny of the conditions faced by its 70,000 workers. China Labor Watch, the US-based worker welfare monitor, now alleges that Chinese factories run by the up-and-coming Taiwan-based manufacturer are “even worse” than Foxconn’s. It claims to have found health and safety violations, poor living conditions in dorms, and the coercion of workers by withholding their pay or identity cards — in other words, the sort of stuff that breaches both Chinese law and Apple’s supplier policy. Its latest report also accuses Apple of failing to treat abuses with the same urgency that it applies to lapses in product quality.

For its part, Apple has responded by highlighting the fact that it has audited Pegatron facilities 15 times in the last six years, and that a recent survey found that Pegatron employees were working an average of 46 hours per week. It also said it had dealt promptly with earlier instances of ID cards being withheld, but admitted that China Labor Watch’s report includes “claims that are new to us” and that will need to be investigated “thoroughly.”

Bing Notification Platform Alerts Users Of Illegal Images

Bing Notification Platform Alerts Users Of Illegal ImagesBing prides itself in being the first of the major search engines to show off a popup warning to folks who happen to live in the UK, and this popup warning will happen only when one searches intentionally for sites that hold images of child abuse. Known as the Bing Notification Platform, it will provide a warning before following that up with details concerning a counselling service. This particular popup would trigger each time ‘blacklisted’ terms that have been compiled from a list by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre is entered into the search engine.

It seems that the Bing Notification Platform’s purpose is to “stop those who may be drifting towards trying to find illegal child abuse content on the web via search engines”, or at least that is what Microsoft shared. In fact, someone from Bing spoke up, saying, “If someone in the UK tries to use search terms on Bing which can only indicate they are looking for illegal child abuse content, they will activate the Bing Notification Platform which will produce an on-screen notification telling them that child abuse content is illegal.”

Sony PS4 Games Can Only Access 4.5GB Of GDDR5 Memory

Sony PS4 Games Can Only Access 4.5GB Of GDDR5 MemorySony’s upcoming console, the PS4, which has already had its pre-orders sold out shortly after it went live, does seem as though it is set to be a winner in its own right by the time it arrives on store shelves, virtual or otherwise. Do expect this holiday season to be a frenzied one for sure, as the crowds do anticipate a rather strong showing by the PS4 as well as its rival, the Xbox One. Well, we have uncovered one new thing about the Sony PS4 today – it will apparently limit game developers to just 4.5GB of its 8GB GDDR5 memory total, at least according to internal development documents that Sony showed off.

Why is this so, you ask? Well, a total of 3.5GB has been set aside for the PS4 operating system, similar to how the Xbox One has decided to cordon off 3GB of its system memory for the operating system itself. Apart from that, it seems that 1GB of “flexible memory” has been made available to game developers from the PS4 OS itself, where it could be used to help boost elements of the game in some way or another.

Prototype Aerial Drone “Walks” On Its Wings, Too

Prototype Aerial Drone “Walks” On Its Wings, TooAerial drones seem to be the way that modern warfare is headed – as pilots start to “fly” from the comfort of a control room, without having to risk their lives on the battlefield while the drone takes all the fire from behind enemy lines. Well, here is a drone that does not seem suited for the battlefield, as it is small in size, but comes with a feature that no other drone has so far – being able to move about at ground level on its wings. Researchers from Switzerland’s Lausanne Polytech are the ones behind this particular drone, where it remains as a prototype as at press time, sporting a straightforward and familiar configuration alongside a rear-facing propeller. Whenever this prototype hits the ground, however, the wings would have a secondary function – to help it move around.

Known as the DALER (Deployable Air Land Exploration Robot for short), it sports wings that have been mounted on shafts which can be locked or rotated, depending on your choice. While it is on the ground, the drone is capable of shuffling around at 20cm per second, allowing it to handle high obstacles and rough terrain without missing a beat.

UK court sides with Volkswagen on security concerns over key pairing

DNP UK court sides with Volkswagen on security concerns over key pairing

Giovanni Ribisi had better hope he doesn’t botch a job anytime soon. Flavio Garcia from the University of Birmingham cracked the security system that pairs an owner’s key to their Porsche, Lamborghini or Audi, and Volkswagen’s parent company wants that research to remain unpublished. The UK’s high court sided with VW’s owner and granted an injunction protecting the Megamos Crypto system. Afterward, Garcia was offered to print his findings, but without the all-important decryption codes. He refused, saying that the public has a right to see the holes in the systems it relies on and that this wasn’t an attempt to give criminals a hand in boosting cars. While the court’s logic is sound — once revealed, all manner of “if this ever fell into the wrong hands” situations could arise — it’s unsettling to see government bend to corporate request. At least we know Eleanor can sit in the garage for just a little longer now.

HTC One’s MoDaCo Switch Could Arrive On Galaxy S4

HTC Ones MoDaCo Switch Could Arrive On Galaxy S4Earlier this month, we did take a look at the MoDaCo Switch for the HTC One, where it enables one to run not only HTC’s very own Sense user interface which runs on top of Google’s Android operating system, but also paves the way for HTC One owners to enjoy a true blue Google experience. Well, there are whispers of the Samsung Galaxy S4 picking up the MoDaCo Switch as well, and since there is quite a number of Galaxy S4 variants around, the particular unit which we are referring to would be the GT-i9505.

A funding campaign for the Galaxy S4 MoDaCo Switch has already kicked off over at Indiegogo, with hopes to ultimately raise £1,000. This is not a far fetched goal, as to date, £770 has already been pledged. Once it is complete, Samsung Galaxy S4 owners too, will be able to sit smugly next to their friends who have a HTC One, where one is able to make the jump from the TouchWiz interface to stock Android in a jiffy. It is said that a £3 pledge will provide you with early access to the MoDaCo Switch on your Galaxy S4, and should you be feeling a wee bit more generous, you can even drop £3,000 which has been described as “the full monty option”. One of the perks of dropping such a serious amount of coin would allow you to have dinner with the whole team in London, where you will also be on the receiving end of a Samsung Galaxy S4 that has MoDaCo Switch installed already. Sony Xperia Honami Hits The FCC

Sony Xperia Honami Hits The FCCOver the past couple of weeks or so, we have seen our fair share of devices that have made their way over to the FCC, which is more or less one of the final hurdles that a particular piece of consumer electronics device has to go through before it is deemed safe and sound to be released to the masses. The upcoming Sony PS4 console has made its way to the FCC, the iPhone Lite as recent as early this morning, a possible Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 which will jive with AT&T, the list could go on. However, here we are with yet another smartphone that has appeared over at the FCC, and it is none other than the upcoming Sony flagship device, the Sony Xperia Honami.

The FCC report did mention that the Sony Xperia Honami is set to be announced before September 30 is over, and those who are interested in picking up this bad boy will be able to do so by the time the first week of October ends. We did wish that the FCC documents discovered did reveal more about the Sony Xperia Honami, but unfortunately, we will still have to rely on rumors at the moment, such as a 5-inch Full HD triluminos display with the X-reality engine, a quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, a 20.7-megapixel camera at the back that has a Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor, 16GB of internal memory, which can be augmented via a microSD memory card slot, is IP57 certified, and will boast of Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi and GSM/UMTS/LTE connectivity.
