BreakupText App Changes The Way Couples Break Up

BreakupText App Changes The Way Couples Break Up

Breaking up with someone? There’s an app for that – not my words, this is how the developers of BreakupText describe their app. Technology is now rooted deep within many aspects of life, and it goes without saying that technology is perhaps one of the major reasons why most couples break up in the first place. Nevertheless, if its not the clandestine texts from a lover than get you in to trouble, some people just find it hard to break up with someone face to face or even compose a text message that gets their point across. As mentioned at the very beginning, now there’s an app for that.

The app has tailored solutions for both men and women. They can choose from ‘I lost interest’ and ‘I found someone else’ to much more humorous options such as ‘I got eaten by a bear.’ The texts that this app generates contains very fine examples so as to make the text believable, though obviously if you go with the eaten-by-bear option no one is going to believe that. Breaking up via text message isn’t an alien concept, it is actually quite the norm these days. The developers say that BreakupText lets people avoid awkward conversations as they finally decide to go their separate ways.

Nexus 7 2 Now Available From Google Play Store

Nexus 7 2 Now Available From Google Play Store

A couple of days ago Google finally announced its new Nexus 7 tablet. Before the actual announcement, the pre-order page for Nexus 7 2 went up on Best Buy’s website. The page essentially confirmed all of the rumors we had previously heard about the device. Nevertheless, the page was taken down shortly after that. At the official announcement, it was said that the new tablet will be available from July 30th. Major retailers such as Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon have already started selling the new tablet. Now, Google’s latest tablet is available from the company’s own online store.

The official Google Play twitter account has also tweeted a confirmation that the new tablet is now available for purchase through Google Play Store. The 16GB version is priced at $229, and the 32GB version will set customers back $269. Nexus 7 2 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the display has almost twice the resolution than the first generation tablet. Furthermore, it comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean installed. These devices will ship on July 30th, so its best to place your order now before Google Play Store sells out of it. As an added incentive for buying directly from Google, customers will be eligible for free ground shipping, albeit for a limited time.

‘iPhone 5C’ Packaging Pictured In China

iPhone 5C Packaging Pictured In China

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about a low cost iPhone that is just on the horizon. Apple is rumored to be releasing a budget smartphone offering alongside its next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5S. Up till now, the monikers rumored for this device include the iPhone Lite and iPhone Mini. Today we see a bin full of packaging boxes for an ‘iPhone 5C.’ This could be the packaging for a barrage of counterfeit iPhones, or this could be the moniker of Apple’s much rumored cheaper iPhone.

The packaging itself looks quite similar to that of the fifth generation iPod touch. The C in this moniker could correspond to the polycarbonate material that has reportedly been used for this device. The picture appeared on WeiPhone Forums, it originates from China. The country is well known for knock off products, so there exists a huge possibility that iPhone 5C is just a knock off that has been created based on the rumors of Apple’s low cost iPhone. Recent rumors suggest that Apple might conduct an event on September 6th to unveil both the iPhone 5S and the low cost iPhone.

CyanogenMod Focal Camera App Raises The Bar

CyanogenMod Focal Camera App Raises The Bar

Smartphone photography is serious business these days, every year the latest devices come bearing beefier camera sensors. To provide a great photography experience, these sensors need to be backed up by powerful camera apps. CyanogenMod Project, which is behind some of the most used custom Android ROMs, has now created a new camera app called Focal. It raises the bar for all stock and vendor modified apps. Focal is actually part of the mysterious CyanogenMod project called Nemesis, under which they will be releasing new features in various phases.

Focal has been built from scratch, its user-interface is widget based that consists of modern Android elements found throughout the OS. Users can drag the focus point anywhere on the viewfinder, or they can tap anywhere for automatic focus. The settings menu can be brought up by swiping your thumb from the left. The camera button expands out and offers toggles for panorama mode, front camera and more.

Panoramic shots can be taken through Focal, CyanogenMod didn’t use Google’s PhotoSphere technology that’s available only for Nexus devices (out of the box). They built their own, called PicSphere, which is totally open source. Other features include a burst mode, improved HDR mode and ability to take pictures while recording video. CyanogenMod nightly builds released from next week will come featuring the Focal app. [Image via Geek]

Moto X Camera App APK Leaked

Moto X Camera App APK Leaked

A lot of details have already been leaked about the Moto X, Motorola’s upcoming flagship Android smartphone. We now know what the device looks like and what features it is going to have. The camera app on this smartphone will come with a minimalist user-interface that is going to be gesture based. The app had previously been outed in pictures, but now an actual APK has been leaked online for anyone to install on their Android device and get an idea of what the Moto X camera app feels like.

The double wrist twist gesture to launch camera app that we saw in a leaked Moto X video unfortunately doesn’t work on devices that weren’t made by Motorola, so that particular bit doesn’t work. Panoramic photos can’t be taken as the mode currently crashes, slow motion and HDR mode are both disabled and can’t be enabled. Other than that, functions such as single and burst shots, video recording, various toggles and swipe gestures all work. The leaked APK of the Moto X camera app is available over at AndroidPolice. Motorola unveils the new smartphone on August 1st.

O2 Germany Reportedly Dropping BlackBerry For Windows Phone

O2 Germany Reportedly Dropping BlackBerry For Windows Phone

BlackBerry is trying really hard to regain some of the market share that it has lost over the years. The company released a couple of new smartphones this year, it is going to release two more in the coming months. Despite that, BlackBerry has lost business in niches it once ruled, such as government departments and agencies. Small and big businesses once relied on BB devices to get their work done. The company might be losing yet another major customer, O2 Germany is reportedly dropping BlackBerry for Windows Phone devices.

An allegedly leaked internal memo is provided as proof to substantiate this report. O2 Germany is said to have moved its sales reps to Nokia Lumia 520s whereas store managers are now believed to have been given Nokia Lumia 925s. By making such a move, the carrier will end up saving as much as $330,000 in BlackBerry enterprise fees. Furthermore, it is said that O2 Germany prefers the integration of Windows Phone with other Microsoft enterprise services. O2 Germany is owned by Telefonica, which also has presence in markets such as UK, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Chile. BlackBerry could be in even more trouble if this trend picks up across all markets. [Image via WMPU]

Windows Phone 8 GDR2 Update Fixes “Other Storage” Issue

Windows Phone 8 GDR2 Update Fixes Other Storage Issue

Windows Phone 8 users have patiently been waiting for the GDR2 update to release. The update is going to bring a lot of improvements and enhancements to WP8 devices. The update will also be fixing an issue that has not doubt irked many users. For quite some time now users have complained that the “other storage” on their device takes up a significant amount of internal memory, leaving less for them to put to use. Joe Belfiore, the head of Windows Phone, has revealed in a tweet that the GDR2 update takes care of this issue.

So what exactly fills up the “other storage” on a Windows Phone device? It basically consists of large collections of undeletable files, which are temporary, but take up a big portion of the internal storage. The upcoming GDR2 update will free much needed internal storage for Windows Phone users. The actual release of this update is expected in the following weeks. Some carriers in Australia have reportedly started testing the update, the roll out is likely to begin the near future. New Nokia WP smartphones such as Lumia 1020 come with the GDR2 update pre-installed.

Sony’s flagship Honami smartphone sneaks into FCC’s database

Sony's flagship Honami smartphone sneaks into FCC's database

In the past, Sony hasn’t been too strict about issuing confidentiality requests when slipping its Xperia smartphones into the FCC’s database. The Honami, however, is no typical Xperia. For those unaware, manufacturers generally submit equipment to the FCC for testing shortly before the product is ready to launch on US shores — once its radios are cleared for use on the airwaves that the FCC controls, precious little stands between said product and your hands.

We’ve seen a stream of Honami leaks over the past few weeks, but none have indicated quite so clearly that it’s nearly ready for a formal debut. The filing masks all internal and external photos, but a software version entitled “s_atp_honami_1_25_1” (seen after the break) makes obvious what device we’re looking at. This, Motorola’s X, and an impending iPhone refresh? Looks like we’re in for a star-studded autumn in the handset universe.
