Ask Engadget: best outdoor TV?

Ask Engadget: best outdoor TV?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, then here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget inquiry is from John, who is so baller that he wants a TV for his pool and doesn’t end his emails with thank you. If you’re looking to ask one of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

“I’m getting ready to have a pool installed and I need a TV for the back porch. I’m looking for something in the 50-inch range that works outdoors, has good viewing angles and backlighting (for the sun) and can handle whatever the weather throws at it. Any suggestions?”

We can imagine it now, you, kicking back watching the Superbowl American Idol finals while submerged in a few feet of water as the sun goes down. So, what device should you go for? For starters, there’s SunBrite’s 46-inch outdoor TV, which’ll set you back $2,795, or a 55-inch model, which costs $5,595. You could also paint a wall white and get set up with an outdoor projector, like Panasonic’s PT-AE7000U, which we’re informed will work outside perfectly well. But that’s just our scratching the surface, what about you all chip in with a suggestion or two of your own?

The collection is called “Little Things” and will include products like lip gloss, lipsticks and nail polishes. The flavors will have hilariously awesome names like “Harry Loves Strawberry,” “Zayn loves Watermelon,” “Louis loves Vanilla,” “Niall loves Cherry” and “Liam loves Blueberry.”

Everything will apparently be cheap — under five dollars — and available starting July 31 in the U.K. Check out photos, below.

Moto X gesture-tastic camera app makes cameo in leaked APK

Moto X gesturetastic camera app makes cameo in leaked APK

We already know the camera app for the Moto X (and Droid Ultra, MAXX and Mini) will feature a minimalistic, gesture-based UI, but the clever souls over at Android Police went one step further and recently leaked an APK of the app. The file (later pulled and cached here) installs just fine on many devices but lacks some functionality. We tested it on a Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) and it worked okay, mostly. HDR and slow-motion video recording are disabled, panorama mode crashes and Quick Capture (double-twist your wrist to launch the camera) is not operational.

Still, the camera UI is ultra simple — swipe right for the settings, left for the gallery, up /down to zoom; tap to capture, and hold to take multiple shots. The resulting pictures (16:9 aspect ratio) look pretty much like those snapped with the stock Android camera, and suffer from the same composition issues since the viewfinder crops the right edge of every image. It’ll be interesting to see if any of this changes when we finally get our hands on the Moto X next week. Until then, check out the gallery of screenshots below and sound off about the APK in the comments.

Hunter Mahan’s Wife Goes Into Labor And He Withdraws From Canadian Open With 36-Hole Lead

By Adam Schupak, Golfweek

OAKVILLE, Ontario –– Hunter Mahan, the 36-hole leader at the RBC Canadian Open, withdrew less than an hour before his third round tee time when his wife, Kandi, went into labor.

The Mahans are expecting their first child, a girl and plan to name her Zoe. But the baby wasn’t due until Aug. 17. Mahan’s wife had gone to the doctor earlier this week, and there was no reason to expect an early delivery, said Mahan’s longtime caddie, John Wood.
