Samsung Only Launching Snapdragon 800 Galaxy Note 3 Variant At The Start [Rumor]

Samsung Only Launching Snapdragon 800 Galaxy Note 3 Variant At The Start [Rumor]The last we heard, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could be launched in both a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 variant, and an Exynos 5420 variant. Unfortunately if you were looking forward to getting your hands on the Exynos 5420 version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, you might have to wait. According to a report from ETNews it seems that Samsung will only be producing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 variants of the Galaxy Note 3 for the time being. The reason behind it is because it seems that the Exynos 5420 is experiencing overheating issues and we guess that’s the last thing Samsung wants in their latest product, which means until Samsung fixes the problem, only the Snapdragon 800 models will be available.

Some of you guys might probably not be too fussed as to which version you will get, but it should be noted that the Snapdragon 800 and Exynos 5420 models are destined for different markets, and according to the list of countries, those living in the US and UK (for the most part, unless you’re planning on getting it through Carphone Warehouse), are “safe” as these are the markets which the Snapdragon 800 model will be arriving on. No word on whether this report is true, and how long it will take for Samsung to sort it out, but hopefully more details will be shared on Samsung’s 4th of September press event at IFA 2013.

Judge Koh denies Samsung a retrial following USPTO patent decisions (updated)

Judge Koh denies Samsung's motion to dismiss trail over bounceback patent invalidation

After the USPTO decided to take a second look at a bunch of Apple’s patents, including the pinch-to-zoom claims later invalidated by the USPTO, Samsung was understandably pressing for a retrial. However, since then the court has certified most of the other IP in question, including the famous claim 19 or “bounce-back” of patent 7,469,381, a lynchpin in the $1 billion judgement favoring Cupertino. As a result, judge Lucy Koh has decided to ignore the Korean company’s pleas and press on with Apple vs. Samsung II, meaning that the trial scheduled for November 12th 2013 will proceed as planned. What does that mean for all of us? Yet more legal wrangling and a prolonging of Samsung’s California nightmare.

Update: The article originally stated that the rubber-banding claim 21 in 7,469,381 was invalidated, but it was actually the pinch-to-zoom claim in patent 7,844,915. We apologise for any confusion that may have caused.

Sony Teases Upcoming Honami Smartphone On Twitter

Sony Teases Upcoming Honami Smartphone On TwitterWe’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the Sony Honami, whose official names seem to be a toss up between the Xperia Z1 or the Xperia i1, but in any case we expect that Sony will make it official on the 4th of September during their IFA 2013 press conference. In the meantime it looks like Sony has decided to tease us with an image on their Twitter account, which based on what we can see, looks like it could be part of the Honami. The tweet also comes from Sony Xperia account which makes even more sense. The photo shows the power button which is reminiscent of the Xperia Z, but then again from what we hear, the Honami is somewhat similar to the Xperia Z in terms of design.

As far as hardware specs are concerned, the rumors are suggesting a 5” Full HD 1080p display. It is also rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset under the hood that could be clocked at 2.2GHz. It will also come with 16GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 3,000mAh battery, and one of its main features would be its 20MP camera that will presumably attempt to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Nokia Lumia 1020. Like we said there’s a very good chance that the handset will be revealed at IFA 2013, so be sure to check back with us then for the details!

    Alleged Sony NEX-5T Photo Surfaces

Alleged Sony NEX 5T Photo SurfacesWe know that Sony has a new camera in the works which will be part of its NEX lineup of mirrorless cameras, and the NEX-5T has been confirmed in a recent sighting at the Taiwanese NCC Agency. According to the rumors, the NEX-5T will not be too different from the NEX-5R, and thanks to a recently leaked photo, we might have gotten our first glimpse at the NEX-5T. As you can see in  the image above, it looks like an advertisement for the NEX-5T along with a slew of lenses , some of which are new lenses that Sony has yet to announce. Based on the photos, it is also hard to tell that it is the NEX-5T as it does look somewhat similar to the NEX-5R.

According to what we last heard, the NEX-5T will differ from the NEX-5R in the sense that it will sport NFC connectivity, a FN-button control similar to Sony’s SLT cameras, and a new menu interface amongst other things. It is also possible that based on previous rumors that the Sony NEX-5T could be announced towards the end of August which means that we might not have to wait too long to see if the rumors pan out! No word on pricing yet but since it appears that it will not differ too greatly from the NEX-5R, we expect it should be priced somewhat similarly, but do check back with us towards the end of the month for the official details!

New Windows Phone Ad Highlights The Lumia 1020′s Camera Abilities

When it comes to advertising their products, Microsoft has never been shy in comparing themselves against the competition, highlighting some of the disadvantages and flaws of their competitors’ products. Well a new advertisement has been released Microsoft where they basically show off the Nokia Lumia 1020’s camera abilities. Of course the “enemies” of the ad are the iOS and Android users where they are busy fighting with each other trying to capture the best photo, and there are even a couple of people in the audiences using the iPad to snap photos which is something of a faux pas.

In the meantime while everyone is busy jostling and stepping over each other trying to get the best photo possible, a couple is seated at the back with their Lumia 1020 that unsurprisingly has managed to capture a crisp and sharp image even from so far behind. In any case even if you don’t believe that the Lumia 1020 has the ability to snap better photos than the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S4, it still makes for a pretty hilarious ad nonetheless. If you have a minute to spare, you can check out the ad in the video above.

    Sony A3000 (ILC-3000) Rumored To Cost £300 For Body-Only

Sony A3000 (ILC 3000) Rumored To Cost £300 For Body OnlyThe other day we reported on rumors that Sony could be looking to launch an entry-level E-mount camera under the A3000 moniker, or ILC-3000 as it could be known in other parts of the world. So how much are we talk about when we mean entry-level? Well according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they have received a tip in which the A3000 has been revealed to cost around 300 GBP for the body-only, which we have to say isn’t too bad. There will also be a version where it will come bundled with a kit 18-55mm lens but no word on how much that could cost.

So far based on what we know, the A3000 is rumored to sport a 20MP sensor and its design is reminiscent of Sony’s SLT cameras, but instead it will sport Sony’s E-mount and will apparently be the first E-mount camera to not be part of Sony’s NEX lineup of cameras. Additional information has suggested that the EVF of the A3000 will be only 200k, and that it will only sport a contrast AF system versus fast PDAF, but then again this is a camera aimed at beginners, so we guess Sony skipped on the fancy features and focused on price. There is a good chance the A3000 could see an announcement in August/September as per the rumors, so check back with us at a later date for more info!
