Xbox One voice commands will only work fully in some launch countries, languages

Earlier this month Microsoft trimmed the list of countries where its Xbox One will launch to 13, and now it’s revealed the new Kinect voice commands will only support all of its features in some of them. Pointed out by a thread on NeoGAF, a disclaimer on Xbox.com listed only a few countries with support for voice commands at launch. Since then, MS Director of Product Planning Albert Penello has responded with more details, explaining that, at launch the Xbox One will support eight languages / dialects: English (US), English (GB), French, Spanish (MX), Spanish (ES), Italian, German and Portuguese.

That said, some voice features — like the “Xbox On” command — will not be available everywhere at the start, with only the US, UK, Canada, France, and Germany set to receive them out of the gate. As Penello explains it, users will select their language first, and then get a list of countries it’s supported in. Confused? A more thorough explanation is coming to the Xbox website at some point, and Kinect’s supported languages are expected to grow with updates after the system launches — whenever that launch is.

Nintendo Admits Wii U’s Issue Is Lack Of Steady Software Launches

Nintendo Admits Wii Us Issue Is Lack Of Steady Software LaunchesNintendo’s Wii U was probably launched with the best of intentions, but unfortunately the console has been struggling since its launch, with retailers such as GameStop calling the sales of the console “disappointing”, and with Nintendo executives blaming the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake as one of the reasons the console was not selling. Nintendo’s President recently stated that price was not the issue (although they did just cut the prices as of yesterday), and when asked by Kotaku, if the name of the console could be the problem, Nintendo’s America president, Reggie Fils-Aime was quoted as saying, “The challenges we’re facing with Wii U are not issues of the name.”

So if price is not an issue, and if the name is not an issue either, what could be it? According to Fils-Aime, “The issue is the lack of a steady rate of software launches to motivate the consumer to drive buzz and engagement and to highlight the wide variety of uses of the GamePad. That’s the issue.” His statement is right on the money as it was recently reported that publishers aren’t that willing to hop aboard the Nintendo bandwagon these days. We’re not sure what Nintendo can do to turn things around, but hopefully with upcoming releases such as Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, things will start to look up a bit for Nintendo.

Nikon D5300 And D610 Rumored For Announcement

Nikon D5300 And D610 Rumored For AnnouncementPhotographers looking for entry-level Nikon DSLR cameras might be interested to learn that according to a new rumor by Nikon Rumors, they have learnt that Nikon could be prepping a pair of entry-level DSLRs that will be sort of like a successor to the respective models. Nikon Rumors has learnt that the two cameras in question are the D5300 and the D610. The D5300 is expected to be an improvement over the D5200, although exactly what sort of improvements we are looking at remains unknown, but perhaps WiFi or GPS functionality could be one of them (speculation at this point).

As for the D610, while it is possible that newer features could be introduced over the D600, it is expected to address the sensor oil issue which has apparently been an issue for the camera and has also been why photographers have avoided buying it. Nikon Rumors also adds that this might explain why refurbished prices of the D600 have been on the receiving end of massive discounts, possibly in light of the fact that a successor could be in the works. No word on when Nikon will make their announcement so take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.

Google Glass Gets A More Fashionable Design

Google Glass Gets A More Fashionable DesignPersonally speaking Google Glass looks good to me, but then again I expect that not everyone shares my opinion and there are those who might be wishing that the gadget could look more fashionable, or perhaps more “normal” so as to blend in with our everyday fashion. Well for those who are wishing for something like that to happen, you could be getting your wish as a new design of Google Glass (pictured above) was posted on Isabelle Olsson’s Google+ page. For those unfamiliar, Olsson is the lead industrial designer of the Glass team and we have to say we are liking this new design.

Upon first glass you could be hard pressed to tell the model (Google Glass marketing manager Amanda Rosenberg) was actually sporting Glass on her face as it looks like she’s just wearing a pair of regular prescription glasses. While the current Glass design is good and does look futuristic, this new design injects a bit of “life” into the proceedings and gives it a bit of a personality. Granted this particular design is not for everyone, but it goes to show that more “regular” design Glasses could be in the card in the future. What do you guys think? Is this a Google Glass you could get on board with?

Samsung Galaxy Gear control app screens confirm NFC, other features

Samsung Gear Manager screens leak, show app management and more

Samsung already said that its Galaxy Gear smartwatch would launch on September 4th, but that doesn’t mean the leaks are over. Far from it — @evleaks just posted screenshots of Gear Manager, the smartphone app that will oversee Samsung’s wristwear. The images mostly corroborate details from past rumors, such as the SM-V700 model number, app support and NFC pairing. There are a couple of surprises, however. One shot mentions a “find my watch” tool, and another shows an abstracted representation of the Galaxy Gear itself — don’t read too much into that last picture, though. While we’d rather see the real smartwatch, this new leak may tide us over until the official Galaxy Gear unveiling next week.

Regardless of how fashion savvy a woman is, she is well aware that bra

Real Racing 3 Makes Its Way Onto BlackBerry 10

Choosing a smartphone platform has many considerations, such as popularity, ease of use, and how many apps it has, just to name a few requirements users might have. While having plenty of apps is certainly a good thing, having quality apps is just as important as well. After all what’s the point of having thousands of apps if you’ve never heard of any of them before, right? Well the good news for BlackBerry 10 users is that it looks like another popular app has made its way onto the platform and it is in the form of EA’s Real Racing 3! (more…)

Nokia Teases HERE Announcement For Vehicles

Nokia Teases HERE Announcement For VehiclesNokia might be known as a manufacturer of phones, but they also dabble in other businesses as well, such as providing location services based on their HERE platform that provides maps, driving information, and even transit information for those taking public transportation. In a recent blog post by Nokia Conversations, it looks like the Finnish company might have something to announce tomorrow that could be car-related, as the photo above seems to suggest.

This isn’t a complete surprise as back in September last year, Nokia did sign deals with car manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai, and the Volkswagen Group, not to mention a recent interview with GigaOM has revealed some possibilities of Nokia HERE in vehicles. This includes how the platform could be used to help drivers determine the most efficient route for gas consumption, traffic, distance and more. Sounds like a great idea but exactly how deep of an integration are we looking at? Well we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Nokia is expected to make the announcement at 9am GMT tomorrow, so check back with us then for the details.
