BlackBerry landing page prematurely declares 'BBM for Android and iPhone is here'

BlackBerry’s messaging tool doesn’t appear to be live for Android and iOS just yet, but if this new landing page is any indication, the service is just about ready to launch. A new dedicated page with the banner “BBM for Android and iPhone is here,” appeared under the company’s Canadian domain this morning, along with an inactive link to download BBM for Android and another for iPhone. Further down the page are references to additional features that won’t be included at launch, such as BBM Voice, BBM Video and screen sharing features, which instead are expected this fall. The page has since been removed, but it may reappear any minute/hour/day now at the source link below.

[Thanks, Felix]

Skype Looks Into 3D Calling System

Skype Looks Into 3D Calling SystemIt does seem as though the world is moving towards a 3D environment where computers and consoles are concerned, but some like the recently announced Nintendo 2DS is taking a step back by doing away with 3D support. Skype, however, looks in the opposite direction by working on a possible 3D calling system, according to Mark Gillett, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Skype.

This particular announcement from Mr. Gillett has arrived right before Skype celebrates its 10th anniversary today, and it could be a “gimmick” according to some, where they see this move as an attempt to ensure that consumers remain interested in their service, especially when consumers these days have a plethora of choices to pick from other than Skype to make highly affordable calls abroad. Mr. Gillett did warn that the technology to support 3D calling exists at the moment, but it will still require years before consumers can place 3D calls at their whim and fancy.

I would say that this has placed Skype in a very unique position – even if they do not manage to implement it successfully, it does not mean that they will falter down the road as a company on the whole. And if they happen to make 3D calls happen, then it could be huge as they pioneer yet another way to keep in touch with your loved ones across long distances.

HTC Zara Mini Image And Specs Leaked

HTC Zara Mini Image And Specs LeakedSlightly more than a week ago, the HTC Zara leaked out, and here we are with something that we are rather familiar with – not the hardware itself, but rather, the concept of the situation. I am referring to a “mini” version of a particular hardware – the Galaxy S3 has its mini, and there is also the HTC One mini to boot. I guess in the same vein, here we are with the HTC Zara mini, where this particular device has been given the codename HTC 301e.

The HTC Zara mini has already passed through Tenaa, which happens to be the FCC equivalent in China. What you see above is most possibly what the final HTC Zara mini will look like when it hits the market, not to mention that we have alleged hardware specifications of the device leaked out as well. From what we know, this does seem to be a mid-range smartphone, where it runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, sports a 4.3” TFT display at 480 x 800 resolution, a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon 400 chipset, 512MB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot. At the back lies a 5-megapixel camera, while the front has a 1.3-megapixel shooter. There is no word on pricing or availability as at press time.

The Ring Clock Helps You Keep The Sands Of Time In Your Hands

For years now, people have worn rings on their fingers as well as watches on their hands. Rings would be used in order to indicate someone’s marital status as well as being used for fashion, while watches are used to tell time in addition to their use in fashion. Now, you won’t need to wear one or the other as the Ring Clock combines both a ring and a watch in one ultimate accessory.

The Ring Clock uses a total of 144 ultra-thin LEDs that can display the current time when you twist it along your finger, all within a surgical-grade, allergy-free stainless steel ring that is water resistant. You’ll have a choice of being able to tell time through your ring in either blue or orange LEDs. Charging the Ring Clock is as easy as setting it down as it’ll recharge through wireless induction, although a full charge is said to allow the ring to function for a week without needing to be recharged.

The Ring Clock is currently seeking funding through their Indiegogo campaign where a pledge of $185 will get you your very own Ring Clock, which is said to be a rather large discount considering the retail price of the ring will be $250 when it’s complete.

Sony Xperia Z1 High Quality Spyshot Spotted

Sony Xperia Z1 High Quality Spyshot SpottedIt will not be too long before the Sony Xperia Z1 (also known as the L39h if model numbers are your cup of tea) will be unveiled in an official manner, so in the meantime, you can be sure that there will be quite a fair number of leaks before the device’s official release judging by the kind of seemingly loose security that companies seem to have these days. Having said that, if you cannot get enough of the Sony Xperia Z1, which has been endearingly called the Sony Honami for the longest time already, here we are with what seems to be the most detailed and clearest shot of the Sony Xperia Z1 to date. I guess whoever took the photo had all the time in the world to ensure that a high quality image is captured.

So far, rumored hardware specifications for the Sony Xperia Z1 point to a 5″ 1080p display, where it will run on a Snapdragon 800 chipset with an alleged 20.7-megapixel camera located at the back, not to mention a sensor which is capable of 4K video recording, in addition to a 3000 mAh battery. It is tipped to debut on the same day that Samsung announces their Galaxy Note 3, so which of the two smartphones do you think will win out in the end? Is there a large enough market for both devices to do well?

Lovefilm gets MTV and Nickelodeon through streaming deal with Viacom

Lovefilm gets MTV and Nickelodeon through streaming deal with Viacom

Earlier this year, Amazon reached a deal with Viacom to keep many of the media company’s shows on Prime Instant Video, even scoring some exclusive content along the way. Now it’s time for Amazon’s other streaming service, Lovefilm, to benefit from a similar agreement. As you’d expect, Lovefilm’s UK subscribers will now be able to enjoy a variety of content from Viacom networks, including shows on MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. And fret not if you don’t enjoy shows like Jersey Shore — at the very least you’ll have the likes of SpongeBob and Go Diego Go! to keep the kiddos busy while you catch up on Man v. Food.

Ford Makes Fiesta More Appetizing with a Bacon Wrap

Two of my favorite things in all the world are cars and bacon. I think bacon is the reason God put pigs on earth and the man who invented bacon should be immortalized on Mount Rushmore. I also happen to think that the Ford Fiesta is one of the least attractive cars on the market.

However, I do like bacon and Ford has announced some custom bacon graphics specifically for the 2014 Fiesta. The most bacontastic of the wraps is the one you see in the image above – showing 12 salty and crispy slices of bacon spread all around the car. That is a somewhat over the top representation of your love for salty pork in my book.

Ford does have a few other bacon graphics that you can add to your car if you’re looking for something a little more subtle. My favorite are the bacon racing stripes, a pair of bacon strips that you can place on the hood of your Fiesta that resemble classic dual racing stripes.

Ford also offers the side of bacon graphics with two individual strips of bacon wrapped over the rear wheels. Ford created these bacon themed wraps in celebration of International Bacon Day. Yes, that is the official holiday for bacon, which happens on August 31 each year.
