Colorado Theater Shooting Victim-witnesses Can Attend James Holmes Trial

DENVER — Victims of the Colorado theater shootings can attend defendant James Holmes’ trial and pretrial hearings, even if they will be called to testify as prosecution witnesses, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Attorneys for Holmes had asked the judge to bar all prosecution witnesses from court proceedings. State court rules allow such exclusions to keep witnesses from hearing – and being influenced by – one other’s testimony.

Olympus Teases Upcoming Flagship Camera

Olympus Teases Upcoming Flagship CameraIf you loved Olympus’ earlier interchangeable lens camera offerings, you could be in for a treat as it seems that the camera manufacturer could be gearing up to launch a new flagship camera. This is thanks to a teaser image recently uploaded by Olympus, which as you can see in the image above, reads, “A new Olympus flagship camera with interchangeable lenses”, along with a tagline that simply says, “Coming soon…”

It is unknown at this point in time what Olympus could be launching but thanks to the FourThirds and Micro FourThirds logo spotted in the teaser, it does narrow things down a bit, not to mention the ad pretty much displays all of Olympus’ Zuiko Digital and M.Zuiko Digital lenses as well. In any case there’s no word on when Olympus will launch this new flagship camera, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information, but with IFA 2013 around the corner and taking place in Berlin, perhaps Olympus will take the opportunity to unveil something then, so check back with us then to see if there are any updates to be had!

Sony QX100 Lens Camera Rumored To Cost $450

Sony QX100 Lens Camera Rumored To Cost $450

We have been hearing rumors that Sony could be looking to launch an accessory known as the “lens camera”, which has been identified by its model numbers, the QX10 and QX100. At this point in time it is unknown as to how much Sony could be charging for these accessories and thanks to several reports, the prices of either model have been revealed. According to the source of Sony Alpha Rumors, the price of the QX100 accessory which features the same sensor found in the RX100MII, could be priced at $450, around $300 less than the RX100MII camera itself.

As for the QX10, Taiwanese website ePricehas quoted it to be around NT$6,900 which is roughly 170 EUR when converted. ePrice has also pegged the QX100’s price to be around NT$14,900 which is about 370 EUR. Since Sony has yet to officially announce either accessory, which hopefully they do during IFA 2013, we can’t tell if these prices are the real deal or if retailers are simply speculating, but what do you guys think? Is $450 a bit too much to ask for such an accessory? Or would you be willing to pay for it to take your smartphone photography to the next level?

UNC ‘Courage Project’ Vandalized By Terrible Person Without Courage

The Courage Project, a photo display on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus devoted to empowering survivors of violence and abuse, was vandalized late last week.

Photos of a former UNC student who identifies as a relationship-abuse survivor were scratched with the words “whore” and “real shit,” said Andrea Pino, a UNC student who created the Courage Project. The project was vandalized either late Thursday or early Friday, the Daily Tar Heel reports.

University employees discovered the vandalism around 5 a.m. Friday, Pino told HuffPost. Senior Associate Director of the Carolina Union Scott Hudson filed a police report later that morning.

Shouting Disrupts Vigil For Murdered Transgender Woman Islan Nettles

NEW YORK — On Tuesday night, hundreds turned out for a vigil in honor of Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old transgender woman who died after an attack just blocks from the park where family, friends and LGBT advocates gathered in her memory.

Nettles, who was pursuing a career in fashion, was walking Aug. 17 with a transgender friend when they encountered several men who shouted transphobic and homophobic slurs, and beat them. Nettles died in the hospital several days later. The police are currently investigating the case as a hate crime, according to The New York Times.

Before the vigil, old friends met up and gathered before the stage. Some knew Nettles personally, but many others were there because they felt as though they knew her. Tamara Williams, a 24-year old transgender woman with long braids, said she’d never met Nettles, but they were “in the same scene.”

Volvo reveals the Concept Coupe, a two-seater 400HP plug-in hybrid

DNP Volvo's Concept Coupe is a twoseater plugin hybrid

It seems as if all of Volvo’s recent efforts have been leading up to the unveiling of the Concept Coupe. The svelte two-seater is a plug-in hybrid, has a touchscreen-based center console and was built on the company’s Scalable Product Architecture, which at some point will allow for autonomous driving. According to Volvo, the gas-and-electric engine achieves “around” 400 horsepower out of a 2-liter motor thanks, in part, to the supercharger and turbo mated to it. The prototype two-door also features a touch-display console that’s tied into the car’s adaptive digital display as well as a heads-up display. The Swedish automaker tells us this new touchscreen is an evolution of what was seen in the Concept You, which only had five physical buttons in the entire cockpit.Volvo attributes the triumphs of the Concept Coupe and its related tech to the efforts of new Senior Vice President of Design Thomas Ingenlath. Not a bad showing for his first year on the job, is it?
