Dashboards have proven themselves to be an important – nay, indispensable part of any vehicle. After all, that is where drivers would be able to obtain first hand information about what is going on with their rides, ranging from warning lights to the speed as well as rev of the engine. The dashboard design has remained more or less stagnant for many years already, but the introduction of digital displays in dashboards have opened up a whole new world of possibilities – some might even say infinite, but I guess you can call it a far more creative manner of displaying the different information to the driver. A new concept car known as the Monza by Vauxhall will ditch the traditional dashboard, but will instead feature a single, modular LED projection display that also doubles up as an integrated infotainment system.
All the relevant details including driving information, navigation, communication and entertainment will be presented as and when required on this LED projection display that takes up the entire dash and center console. Vauxhall intends to popularize the idea of presenting only the information that is requested by the driver at any one time. For instance, if the driver wants to know more about the weather, the entire dash will display all sorts of relevant information, and even better is the fact that all you need to do is speak aloud of what you want to see on the dashboard, and voila! It will appear there and then. All controls will also be mounted on the steering wheel for old school folks who want something more tactile to press.

According to Japan’s NHK news agency, the Land of the Rising Sun’s Defense Ministry has every intention of increasing their defense budget by a whopping $40 million dollars. Wait a minute, that does not sound like much actually, considering how the defense budgets of many countries run into the billions. Well, what good will the additional $40 million do for Japan’s Defense Ministry? Well, it seems that this amount of dough will be used to research and develop radar which will be capable of detecting and tracking aircraft – aircraft of the stealth variety, to be exact.
NHK did quote some ministry officials who prefer to remain anonymous (as usual), where they touted that such a move is not a luxury, but rather, it is a necessity, since both China as well as Russia are currently working on next-generation fighter jets, which so happen to be extremely difficult to detect using conventional radar systems. Not only that, the Defense Ministry also has penciled in plans to deploy advanced surveillance aircraft a couple of years down the road 2015 as part of a response against an increase in activity by Chinese military planes around Japan’s southwestern islands. Hopefully our country’s anti-stealth defenses are also up to snuff…

EA’s Peter Moore clarifies stance on online games, says not every title will require your console to be online
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhile discussing the finer points of EA’s plans for this year (and those new consoles), EA’s Peter Moore explained to Engadget that the games maker doesn’t ship a game that is offline. It seems some people took this and ran (and ran) with it. So much in fact, that Moore has decided to officially respond, detailing that while its games catalog connects through online multiplayer, stat sharing, achievements or can even be delivered to consoles and devices by the internet, the company will continue to include single-player and offline modes that can be played without any need for a data connection — not every EA game will require your console to be online. We’ve embedded the aforementioned interview from Gamescom after the break. If only Mr. Moore still had the chance to respond with a YouTube video of his own…

Josh Duhamel dropped by “The Tonight Show” with his phone on the stage with him. His wife, Fergie, is due any moment now and Duhamel doesn’t want to miss “the call.” But with the birth looming so close, Jay Leno wondered if Duhamel was ready for fatherhood.
“You know, I gotta tell you, I’m a little bit nervous,” Duhamel admitted. “I thought that I was going to be good. I thought that I was ready for this, and I’m a little bit terrified. I’m excited and terrified, because I am responsible for this little thing. Forever. So, I just got that. So, if this interview sucks, you know why.”

Remember the YouTube video responses you never clicked on? They’re going away
Posted in: Today's ChiliGoogle’s about to kick another one of its features to the curb, though we doubt there’ll be any pitchforks and torches, à la Reader. Yes, the not-much-beloved “video response” on YouTube is going to Google heaven, apparently because the click-through rate was a pitiful 0.0004 percent. The team suggested using hashtags instead going forward, but you were probably doing that anyway. Because you never used video responses, ever. None of you.

In the weeks since former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder, more aspects of his dark and violent past have come to light. Rolling Stone magazine has promised several more revelations in a forthcoming piece titled “The Gangster in the Huddle,” including that Hernandez was a “heavy user of angel dust.” According to the Rolling Stone report, Hernandez also frequently carried a gun because he had become increasingly paranoid.
Rolling Stone contributing editor Paul Solotaroff has written a piece that the magazine is billing as “a detailed investigation into Aaron Hernandez’s life.” Five revelations from the article that will appear in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone were teased on the magazine’s website on Tuesday. Two of the topics mentioned that are surely pique interest involve alleged drug use and the claim that former Florida football coach Urban Meyer “helped cover up failed drug tests, along with two violent incidents” while Hernandez was in Gainesville. Meyer had previously denied that failed drug tests were covered up in texts to The Columbus Dispatch and The Gainesville Sun.
Hernandez was arrested at his home in North Attleborough, Mass. on June 26. He was soon charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Hernandez would plead not guilty and be denied bail. Hernandez was formally indicted by a grand jury on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Lloyd on Aug. 22.
