Steve Ballmer Believes Google Is A ‘Monopoly’

Steve Ballmer Believes Google Is A Monopoly

Microsoft has spent a lot of time and money on building Bing as a strong rival against Google, which is undoubtedly the most used online search engine in the world. Bing currently accounts for 17.9 percent of the entire U.S. search traffic, trailing Google, which rakes in almost 67 percent search traffic. During Microsoft’s financial analysts meeting, outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer said that “we’re the only guys in the world trying,” with the Bing search engine to rival Google’s dominance. He further added that Google has this “incredible, amazing, dare I say monopoly that we are the only person left on the planet trying to compete with.”

Ballmer also voiced his frustrations against the internet search giant. He said that Google’s practises are “worthy of discussion with competition authorities,” adding that they have certainly discussed them with the relevant authorities. He believes that Google’s practices are getting “less meritorious of discussion.” Microsoft has certainly tried to raise a question mark over Google’s business practices, which it believes are worthy of discussion, through its “Scroogled” ad campaigns, though they seem to have received mixed reactions. Meanwhile, Microsoft continues to makes its search offering better. Only recently it unveiled a new Bing logo, not only that, it also made changes to the search algorithm which is basically the foundation upon which the entire search engine is laid.

Nokia Sirius Tablet Might Be Called Lumia 2520

There has just been endless speculation about Nokia’s upcoming tablet. It is widely known as “Sirius,” which is believed to be its internal codename. The tablet reportedly runs on Windows RT and as per a recent rumor, it might be unveiled alongside the Lumia 1520. Nokia has scheduled an event on October 22nd, where it is said to unveil its new Windows Phone 8 phablet, the much rumored Nokia Lumia 1520. @evleaks, famous for inside knowledge that is almost always spot on, has us believe today that this tablet might be called the Nokia Lumia 2520.

There’s obviously no confirmation from Nokia just yet, the company hasn’t even let it slip if its working on a new tablet. Recently there have been rumors that perhaps Nokia is being pushed by Microsoft to cancel its Windows RT tablet, but any concrete evidence of such a demand hasn’t surfaced. Microsoft has decided to acquire Nokia’s core phone business, the Finnish manufacturers’ shareholders will meet in November to vote on the sale. Even if the tablet is going to be unveiled next month, there’s no guarantee that Lumia 2520 is going to be the final branding. The Lumia 1020 was initially believed to be called the Lumia 909, and it is said that Nokia decided to change it prior to the announcement.

iOS 7 Bug Allows Calls To Be Made Through A Locked iPhone

iOS 7 Bug Allows Calls To Be Made Through A Locked iPhone

A couple of days ago Apple finally released iOS 7 to the public. Its latest and greatest firmware update brings over 200 new features and an entirely new user interface. Despite the fact that iOS 7 spent nearly three months in beta stage, during which developers searched for and reported any bugs they could find, two major security vulnerabilities have already been found in the latest iOS update. We reported one the first one yesterday, the bug lets anyone access Mail, Twitter, Photos and more on an iPhone locked with a passcode. This particular one lets calls go through without requiring a passcode.

The bug is present in the emergency call feature. Anyone willing to make a call through a passcode locked iPhone running iOS 7 simply needs to tap on “Emergency.” This will bring up the emergency call screen. The required number can be entered, it may even be an international or premium number, and then the call button is repeatedly pressed until a black screen with the Apple logo shows up, the call is then put through. Apple has already been made aware of this bug, which is said to iPhone 5 and all older iPhones compatible with iOS 7. The company will release an incremental firmware update to take care of both of these bugs, though its not known when such an update will be released.

KEF X300AW Wireless PC Speakers Aimed at Well-Heeled Audiophiles

I don’t have an audiophile grade bone in my body. As long as there’s bass and I can understand the words in songs and in my favorite movies, I really don’t care what my speakers sound like. There are many people out there who are audiophiles and have ears good enough to hear the difference between cheap speakers and good speakers. If you can really discern the difference between high-quality sound and normal sound you’ll appreciate the KEF X300AW Wireless speakers.

    kef x300a speakers 620x368magnify

The speakers are based on the well-reviewed X300A, and have two class AB amplifiers inside each one. A 50-watt amplifier drives the midrange and low end sound, while a 20-watt amp handles high frequencies for best sound quality overall. Their 802.11 b/g wireless capability allows the speakers to support streaming from mobile devices that are Airplay or DLNA compatible.

The speakers are also designed to connect directly to your Windows or Mac computer using a USB cable. When connected via USB the speakers support 96 kHz/24-bit HD audio and have a built-in digital analog converter. The manufacturer also equips the speakers with a 3.5 mm analog input. They’re available in either gunmetal or white cabinets.

If you think these sound like the speakers for you, get a load of the price. The speakers are available for $999.99(USD), which is a whole lot of cash for computer speakers. If you don’t need the wireless capability, the X300A speakers can be had for $200 less.
