Microsoft cuts off Skype support for Windows Phone 7 because old things must die

Microsoft cuts off Skype support for Windows Phone 7 because old things must eventually die

There are two ways to deliver bad news: an overlong, meandering apology or the ‘pull no punches’ route. Microsoft, in explaining away future Skype support for Windows Phone 7, went with option number one. You see, it’s not you, it’s Windows Phone 8. And besides, according to Microsoft, there aren’t even really that many of you left on WP7 to merit continued updates. Please understand, this is about the future; it’s about integrating Skype into every (viable) Microsoft platform and product and you, forlorn WP7 user, aren’t part of that picture. Chin up, though, you can still download the app from the Windows Phone Store. Now don’t say Microsoft never gave you anything. Buh bye.

Sprint Might Offer The Galaxy Note 3 Soon

Sprint Might Offer The Galaxy Note 3 SoonOut of the four major mobile carriers in the US, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile have already took down pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which means Sprint is the odd one out. Well, Sprint subscribers, fret not – it does not seem as though Sprint will be missing out on the Galaxy Note 3 party anytime soon, as there are whispers going around that the Galaxy Note 3 will also go on sale at Sprint at approximately the same time as the other three mobile carriers.

The new Galaxy Note 3 has been speculated to launch this coming October 2nd, which so happens to be the exact day when the very same phablet is tipped to arrive over at T-Mobile. As for AT&T, they too, are anticipated to offer the Galaxy Note 3 from October 2nd onward, with Verizon tipped to roll it out this October 10th. Sprint will most probably follow a similar format as the rest, tagging a $299.99 asking price for the Galaxy Note 3 alongside a 2-year contract. Only time will be able to tell just which out of the four mobile carriers will the Galaxy Note 3 sell the most. Will you be one of those who will pick up the Galaxy Note 3 when it finally arrives?

    LEGO Useless Machine: Mindtroll

We’ve seen many examples of LEGO used to build something practical. This one’s the exact opposite. LEGO enthusiast Jason Allemann built his own take on the infamous useless machine using the newly released Mindstorms EV3 kit.

lego ultimate useless machine by Jason Allemannmagnify

Like the original useless machine, Jason’s contraption exists only to turn itself on. However, Jason programmed it to do other things before it turns itself off. For instance, it can delay the act of turning itself off, so you think that you’ve outsmarted the machine. It can also move away from you. In a hilarious bit of ingenuity, Jason also made the machine so that it can troll itself.

Head to Jason’s website to download the instructions and other files needed to build your own Useless Machine. You can buy the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kit from Amazon for $350 (USD). Don’t worry, you can do other more useful things with it.

Breville Variable Temperature Kettle is a tea-lover’s dream come true

    Breville Variable Temperature Kettle
If you enjoy a fine cup of tea, then you likely know that different types of tea come with different instructions. While not everyone will be attuned to the specific times, temperatures, and storage practices, those who do follow it know the difference it makes. Burning green tea leaves with water that’s too hot will give you bitter tea, and steeping black tea for too long will do you no favors.

There are all sorts of tips and tricks that will make your beverage experience better. What will make things the easiest though, is having a hot pot that will get your water to the correct temperature quickly. The Breville Variable-Temperature Kettle will give you all the options you could want, but comes at a price.

This is a 1500 watt hot pot that can hold 1.8 liters of water. There are 5 pre-set brewing temperatures for different types of tea (there’s even an option for French Press!), and a 360 degree stainless steel base. This means you won’t have to wrestle the cord, which is a big deal in my book. You’ll have the option to hold the temperature for up to twenty minutes, and there are water indicators on both sides. It will cost you upwards of $130, but is far easier than pulling out a thermometer for a screaming kettle. Of course, you don’t necessarily need all of this extra functionality, but for the avid tea drinker, this is a dream come true. Just remember to dump the extra water at night to prevent mold.

Dual SIM Nokia Asha 500 Appears In Press Render

Dual SIM Nokia Asha 500 Appears In Press RenderMany smartphones these days still come with just one SIM slot, but we have been seeing our fair share of dual SIM smartphones being introduced to the market in recent times. Of course, one particular niche where the dual SIM handset would do very well would be the featurephone range, and Nokia is still king of the ring here. Of course, we ought to bear in mind that Microsoft now owns Nokia, and while there has been whispers going around that Microsoft has more or less “forced”, or rather, convinced Nokia to cancel some Asha devices, a new Asha 500 has popped up in the form of a press render thanks to the folks over at @evleaks.

The Nokia Asha 500 does not seem all that much different from the Asha 501, where the latter has already been available in select markets since June. The Nokia Asha 500, however, will not come with a hardware homey key like the Asha 501, albeit it will feature a capacitive one. Other than the dual SIM capability, we figure out that the Nokia Asha 500 would most probably arrive with a 3” display, Wi-Fi connectivity and a highly affordable price point.

Celia Mccorquodale, Prince Harry Attend Family Wedding Together (PHOTOS)

Prince Harry is just two weddings short of living out the British film “Four Weddings and a Funeral” this month. After attending nuptials in King’s Lynn last week and the funeral of his father’s close friend before that, Harry is out and about again.

The 29-year-old attended the wedding of his cousin, Alexander Fellowes, and Alexandra Finlay at the Palace of Westminster today, looking dapper in a sleek suit and pink tie (perhaps he took our style advice?). Though we certainly missed Cressida Bonas, Harry’s MIA “girlfriend,” we did notice another blonde by the royal’s side: his cousin Celia Mccorquodale.

Ms. Mccorquodale, Princess Diana’s 22-year-old niece, has a bit of a party girl reputation, not unlike her redheaded cousin. For the affair, Celia opted for a short floral print dress and cream blazer (very Princess Beatrice). She joined Harry and the rest of the wedding party on a decorated red bus as they headed to a wedding breakfast together, Express reports.
