Imagine a smartphone you can roll up and slip into your shirt pocket. Or a tablet that can be folded like a newspaper and slipped in your back pocket. It’s an idea that’s been tossed around in science fiction for a years, but now it’s a small step closer to reality because researchers at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China have developed the world’s first flexible silicon.

Amazon Studios clearly isn’t messing about. One of the more notable series in its original round of pilots is getting a bit more star power. Comedians Amy Sedaris, Wanda Sykes and Sex and the City alum Cynthia Nixon are set to join the cast of Alpha House, which already includes the likes of John Goodman. The Garry Trudeau-penned show is shaping up to be the largest of Amazon’s first round of five green lit series. The show will premier through the company’s streaming service later this year.

Apple finally released iOS 7 yesterday, which left many iOS owners to run into issues just for trying to attempt to download the latest iOS update. I always get a kick out of the juxtaposition of something new and high-tech along with something very old and retro looking. When you take the new iPhone 5S and cram it in a case that makes it look like an old-school boombox, cassette tape, or retro game gear, you have my attention. Square Enix has been teasing us with the promise of an HD remastered version of both Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2 for months now as we’ve seen both screenshots and videos of the updated title. Up until now, Square Enix has yet to put a release date as to when both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita owners can enjoy Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD, but the wait won’t be too long as the company says the game will launch this winter in North America. Prosecutors in New York and San Francisco have given Apple’s new iOS 7 software some high praise, all thanks to a simple security measure. District Attorney George Gascón (SF) and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (NY), both part of the “Secure Our Smartphones Coalition,” are “strongly urging” smartphone owners to apply the company’s latest update because it now includes the Activation Lock feature by default, prompting users to set a passcode the first time they use iOS 7. Once enabled, the security feature stops thieves from reactivating a stolen phone and will require the original owner’s Apple ID and password to unlock a device, even after it’s been wiped. Although it’s relatively minor tweak, the attorneys believe it could help to reduce mobile-related crime — in fact they’re pressuring Google, Microsoft and Samsung to do something similar (although hopefully not too similar).
