If LG’s ’70s-style LED TV looks too modern for your tastes, you can rewind in time even further with Seiki’s new SE22FR01 22-inch retro HDTV. Don’t worry, it does include a remote control.

The set goes for a chunky, rounded 1950s look held up by three little silver feet. It’s a cartoonish interpretation of an old-style television, but therein lies the charm. You won’t be mounting it on your wall, but it should fit right in with your Elvis and Marilyn decor.

The color choices for the $329 TV continue the theme with names like Retro Red, Mid-century Yellow, Electric Blue, Doo-wop Purple, and Cadillac Pink. This should appeal to anyone with a poodle skirt in the closet.

The SE22FR01 won’t stun you with the specs, though it offers a few surprises like a built-in subwoofer and fun volume and power… [Read more]

Google’s making Google Voice more secure by requiring you to call from a phone number registered to your account in order to check your voicemails by phone. But maybe more noteworthy is that Google is still making minor tweaks to Voice instead of killing it and focusing on Hangouts already. What’s up with that?

Google Analytics Ditches Internet Explorer 8 Support By Year’s End

Google Analytics Ditches Internet Explorer 8 Support By Years End

Google has announced today that Analytics will ditch support for Internet Explorer 8 by the end of this year. This policy change only affects Microsoft’s browser, those Google Analytics users who still want to use the service through Redmond’s browser would have to opt for IE9, IE10 or IE11. Google hasn’t said exactly when IE8 support will be axed, but it says in a blogpost that it wants to give users more than three months to prepare for this change and minimize the “disruption to Google Analytics usage for you and your business.”

To be absolutely clear, this announcement doesn’t mean that webmasters will no longer be able to view traffic on their websites that comes through Internet Explorer 8. Google Analytics will continue to monitor all such traffic. The change for webmasters is that they won’t be able to use Analytics on IE8 to sift through traffic reports and statistics. Google says that its taking this step to accelerate “the pace at which we can innovate new product features.” Those who’re using latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari need to worry about this change. Internet Explorer 8 is the most popular web browser in the world, given the fact that Windows XP users can’t upgrade to a later version of IE.

Dungeons and Dragons Cake: More Like Dungeons and Diabetes

Dungeons and Dragons fans will be disappointed that they never had a birthday cake like this one made for them. It’s a dragon laying on an ancient spell book, with it’s tail twisted around a bright blue D20 die.

Reddit user Nateosis’ sister made this sweet looking cake. I love the details on the dragon. She is super talented and obviously a dragon lover. Believe it or not, even the D20 is cake! Critical hit? No, I’m taking a critical bite!

Damn, why don’t I have a sister who does cool things like this? Probably because I have no sister. And look at what sisters do? Awesome job. Dragon cakes rock!

HDMI 2.0: What you need to know

    (Credit: HDMI.org/Geoffrey Morrison)

The HDMI Forum, the nonprofit body that oversees the HDMI specification, recently announced version 2.0. There were numerous changes, not least support for higher frame rates than are possible with the current 1.4 specification.

Do you need to upgrade? Will your cables still work? What does this mean for the future of TVs? Do you care? Answers for all these questions (except maybe the last one) below…

First, here’s where we are now. The until-now most recent version of the HDMI specification was version 1.4. It specified a number of things, like 4,096×2,160-pixel resolution up to 24 frames per second, or 3,820×2,160 up to 30fps. If you’ve bought any gear with an HDMI connector in the past few years, it’s probably version 1.4. It carried over all the features and support from previous versions, plus added 3D, Audio Return Channel, and so on.

2.0 for 4K With the TV industry moving inexorably toward Ultra HD “4K,” it was clear there needed to be more bandwidth in the connection to handle the future’s higher resolutions and frame rates…. [Read more]

LG Vu 3 Phablet Expected To Launch This Month

LG Vu 3 Phablet Expected To Launch This Month

The LG Vu phablet lineup is quite unorthodox, given the display’s 4:3 aspect ratio. These phablets have largely been limited to Asia, where LG has pitted them against Samsung’s Galaxy Note phablets. With Samsung recently unveiling the Galaxy Note 3, it is expected that LG will launch the Vu 3 phablet in the near future. The company recently said that it had sold as many as one million Vu units, and after its rumored Vu 3 announcement later this month, the new phablet is expected to be released worldwide as well.

Rumors suggest that the LG Vu 3 will have a 5.2 inch 1,280×960 pixel resolution display with 4:3 aspect ratio, a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, a 2 megapixel front and 13 megapixel rear camera, 16GB internal memory, microSD slot, microUSB port, LTE-Advanced support and Bluetooth 4.0. Android 4.2.2 is said to come pre-installed. While the Vu 3 won’t be able to take on the Galaxy Note 3 based on specifications alone, its expected to have an upper hand when it comes to pricing. LG’s phablet is said to be much cheaper than Samsung’s latest offering. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will launch in South Korea on September 25th, it is not known right now if LG is aiming to make Vu 3′s announcement before that.

This Innocuous Briefcase Lets You Stealthily Graffiti City Streets

Nothing builds up your street cred like some strategically placed graffiti. The problem is, unless you’re out tagging in the middle of the night, you’re at risk of getting caught in the act. And for an artist like Bob Partington, who works in the medium of spray paint and public property, that’s a problem—so he created this incognito graffiti briefcase that lets him leave tags without anyone realizing it.
