Verizon accepts device upgrades made during glitch, lucky customers can keep unlimited data

Verizon will honor upgrades made using unlimited data loophole

We have bad news: Verizon didn’t mean to let website visitors buy devices at upgrade prices while preserving unlimited data. The option was a momentary “software issue,” the carrier says. However, we also have good news — the company said (in the statement after the break) that it’ll honor orders approved under these terms. Subscribers should be safe as long as the provider hasn’t already cancelled their purchases. While many would no doubt prefer that Verizon made its glitch a permanent feature, it’s good to know that at least some customers will get to take advantage of the network’s accidental deal.

Pioneer Smart Car Cockpit Concept

Pioneer Smart Car Cockpit Concept[CEATEC 2013] Sure, smartphones, phablets and tablets might be all the rage, but this does not mean that there are no other avenues for smart devices. No sir, vehicles have become smarter these days, too, and it does seem as though the ceiling has yet to be reached. Far from it, and at Pioneer’s booth, you have a driver’s cockpit that certainly looks extremely futuristic, although I do not think that the final product should feature so much plastic. Imagine parking this under an intense summer afternoon, or out in the desert. Still, what looks like a cockpit from a starship rather than a car certainly has a story to tell, and tell it we will. Pioneer’s smart car cockpit concept will come with a plethora of sensors as well as works in tandem with your smartphone for a more complete driving experience, which we will talk about later after the jump.

    Haim: Days Are Gone

The band Haim—made up of three titular siblings—is a rare thing in today’s music scene: Unlike so many other musicians who shun their pop culture roots, Haim revel in Top 40 classics—and their music is the better for it. For proof, look no further than Days Are Gone, the trio’s first full-length album, which debuted today.

John Boehner Mocks Obama In House Floor Speech

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) mocked President Barack Obama in a floor speech Monday, hours before a potential government shutdown — marking a rare move and a public sign of the two leaders’ increasingly soured relationship.

“I didn’t come here to shut down the government,” Boehner said, moments before the House voted on the GOP’s latest continuing resolution, which includes a one-year delay of Obamacare’s individual mandate. “The American people don’t want a shutdown, and neither do I.”

The Ohio Republican defended his party against allegations that they are willing to shut down the government over the president’s signature health care law, before referencing a recent phone call with Obama.

Microsoft-Nokia Deal Could Run Into Trouble In India

Microsoft Nokia Deal Could Run Into Trouble In IndiaEarlier in September, Microsoft announced their plans to purchase Nokia’s smartphone division for a whopping $7.17 billion. This was hardly a done deal as regulatory bodies are expected to conduct their due diligence on either company and the deal to ensure that it meets certain guidelines, and that through this deal it will not allow Microsoft to become a monopoly of sorts. In any case so far it seems that the deal has not been thrown any curve balls or run into any obstacles, at least until recently when the Delhi High Court in India decided to announce an interim stay on the Microsoft-Nokia deal, at least until Nokia pays their fine for alleged tax violation.

The Indian Income Tax Department slapped Nokia with a fine of Rs. 2,000 crore back in March for alleged tax violations, a move which Nokia has since been fighting against. However the Delhi High Court has decided that until this matter has been resolved, the Microsoft and Nokia deal should be placed on hold, at least to prevent Nokia from disposing any of their properties or assets in the country once the deal goes through. According to Nokia India’s lawyers, “so far no agreement has been executed for transfer of the India business and no value has been ascribed for this either.”

AT&T’s Lumia 920 Amber Update Will Arrive In The Coming Weeks

AT&Ts Lumia 920 Amber Update Will Arrive In The Coming Weeks

Developers are working on games… but the current selection is very limited

While Windows Phone users around the world have slowly been getting the Windows Phone GDR2 update, those in the US, especially those tied to carriers, have yet to receive theirs, and AT&T’s Nokia Lumia 920 owners are one of them. Well the good news is that if you’ve been anticipating the update for your phone, according to AT&T, the update should be making its way onto your devices in the coming weeks. This was “confirmed” by an AT&T rep who posted on the carrier’s forum, stating that the update is currently in the final stages of testing, so presumably we won’t have to wait much longer to get our hands on it.

The time frame is admittedly a little vague but we guess it will have to do for now, but hopefully AT&T will not take too long because word has it that the Windows Phone GDR3 is also in the works and could be announced in the near future as well, and we’re pretty sure Lumia 920 owners on AT&T’s network aren’t going to be too happy about it if GDR3 is announced while GDR2 has yet to arrive on their devices. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled so check back with us at a later date for more updates.

Two Versions Of The Nokia Lumia 1520 Spotted At The FCC

Two Versions Of The Nokia Lumia 1520 Spotted At The FCCCome October, Nokia is expected to take the wraps off a brand new smartphone called the Lumia 1520. For those who haven’t been following the news, the Lumia 1520 is a phablet by Nokia that will sport a large display along with a Full HD resolution, making it the first Nokia handset to do that, and possibly the first Windows Phone device to support Full HD as well. In any case thanks to FCC sightings, two possible versions of the Lumia 1520 have been spotted in the form of the RM-937 and the RM-938.

The full documentation for either device has not been made available yet so it is unclear as to what the major differences between both handsets are. However it is possible that one version is destined for US carriers, while the other might be an international variant which still needs to go through the FCC if people have plans to bring it into the US and sell it. In any case hopefully more information about the Lumia 1520 will be revealed at Nokia’s event on the 22nd of October, so be sure to check back with us then for the details!

Here's a Closer Look at What the Nexus 5 Might Look Like

As far as heavily anticipated upcoming phones go, we’ve got a pretty good handle on what the Nexus 5 will look like. We’ve seen it accidentally leaked by Google, spotted it at a bar and seen it cross through the photo friendly desks of the FCC.
