Cassidy Lynn Campbell, Transgender Homecoming Queen, Poses For ‘NOH8’ Campaign

Cassidy Lynn Campbell made history last week when her fellow classmates at her high school in Huntington Beach, Calif. crowned her homecoming queen.

The day after taking home the crown from a pool of nine other contestants, Campbell posted a shocking and tearful video online telling viewers that she was “so distraught” and had been the victim of an immense amount of bullying and criticism since her win. In response, the young queen received an outpouring of support, including an invitation from “NOH8” photographer Adam Bouska to take part in the campaign.

Bang & Olufsen promises ‘second-to-none’ experience from new wireless speaker technology

Wireless speakers still aren’t usually the first choice of those primarily concerned with sound quality, but high-end manufacturer Bang & Olufsen is setting out to change that perception with its latest offering. Announced at the CEDIA conference this week, the company’s new wireless speaker platform promises to deliver 24-bit, uncompressed audio to either a pair of speakers or a full 7.1 surround setup. To do that, the platform employs the WiSA open standard, which operates in the 5.2-5.8 GHz range, along with some more proprietary tech from B&O and Summit Semiconductor. The end result of that, the company says, is not only speakers that provide a “second-to-none multi-channel wireless experience,” but ones that are compatible with any WiSA-compliant device. The company isn’t quite ready to show off any new speakers based on the new platform just yet, though; it’s saving that announcement for late October, when a new set of “Immaculate Wireless Sound” speakers is set to debut.

Jurassic Park Meets Dr. Seuss: Seusstastic Park

Action figure modder Sillof loves to remake popular characters by casting them in the style of different eras or genres. But when the owners of the Best Western Denver Southwest hotel approached him last Spring, they wanted him to combine two popular franchises. But he stepped up to the challenge and delivered. Welcome to Seusstastic Park!

The hotel owners asked Sillof to mashup Jurassic Park with Dr. Seuss because they were giving their business a dinosaur-themed makeover. Also because they just love Dr. Seuss. Sillof came up with Catahaturuses, a Lorceritax, Dilos, Yellosneechtors, and the most terrifying creature of them all, the Grinchasaurus rex. He also came up with a Seuss-ified version of the Jurassic Park gate and car.

But that’s not all. In true Dr. Seuss fashion, the hotel owners provided Sillof with the first and last stanzas of a poem about Seusstastic Park, and Sillof filled in the rest of the poem. You can read the poem on Sillof’s website. Sillof said he had fun with the project and is thrilled with how it turned out. He also said that the hotel owners may auction off the figures for charity, so keep an eye out on the Best Western Facebook page if you want to own a piece of Seusstastic Park.

Proof That Big Brothers Aren’t So Bad After All (PHOTO)

Sure, they left smelly socks all over the house after soccer practice and ratted you out to mom and dad when you went to the movies while grounded. But somewhere down the line, most of us come to realize that it really does pay to have an older brother.

The sweet note below is proof of that. Imgur user libbyful shared it on the site recently with this backstory: “A few years ago, I had a bad breakup and my brother left me this note and a rose. I keep it on my mirror so I see it everyday.”

Here’s the aww-inducing letter:

That Time GE Made a One-Man, Rocket-Propelled Reentry Vehicle/Body Bag

The upcoming film Gravity follows the desperate escape attempts of two astronauts from a dying space station, their peril aggravated by the sight of Earth’s surface so close but entirely out of their reach. Of course, had they been equipped with GE’s Manned Orbital Operations Safety Equipment, they could have simply hopped a rocket bag down to the planet and saved themselves a whole lot of trouble.

Apple Reportedly Hires Top Nike Design Director To Work On Wearable Gadgets

Apple Reportedly Hires Top Nike Design Director To Work On Wearable Gadgets

Time and again it has been rumored that Apple is working on wearable devices. There have been rumors of a smartwatch, which is commonly known as the iWatch. 9to5mac is reporting that Apple has managed to poach Nike’s top design director Ben Shaffer. At Nike, Shaffer was the Studio Director of the Innovation Kitchen, which is basically a research and development lab where new product designs come to life. Products that came out of the innovation kitchen include the infamous Nike Fuelband and the company’s new Flyknit shoe.

The iWatch that Apple is reportedly working on has already been rumored to be fitness focused, much like the Fuelband. Shaffer’s work on the Fuelband will definitely come in handy if talk about his move to Apple is actually true. It is only speculation at this point that Shaffer has been lured away by Apple and that his work there is going to focus on wearable devices. There hasn’t been a confirmation from both Shaffer or Apple as yet. Apple actually hasn’t even detailed its wearable device plans as yet. It hasn’t confirmed if it is indeed developing a smartwatch. Analysts expect that Apple might unveil its first wearable gadget, the aforementioned smartwatch, next year. [Image via iPhoneaddict]

CyanogenMod creator Steve Kondik on the challenges of refining the ROM

    Image

On the morning after the Oppo N1 launch, Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik was surrounded by several Oppo ambassadors and tech writers at a hotel lounge in Beijing. It’s a far cry from where he began: toying with Android ROMs out of “boredom” about five years ago.

“When I started this thing, I had, like, no idea that people would actually care,” said Kondik, the creator of CyanogenMod. “I was kind of watching out to see who was going to bring Linux to the first mobile device, in a way that it didn’t absolutely suck.”

In the end, it was Android that stood out with its open-source development, and Kondik saw the potential of adding his own enhancements to devices running on this OS. By day, the Seattle-based developer was a lead engineer at a bioinformatics startup in Pittsburgh; but during his free time, he worked on what later became CyanogenMod for the legendary T-Mobile G1, the world’s first commercial Android device. And of course, he bought it on the day it came out.
