PopCap’s Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Crop Circles Video Teaser

PopCap’s hit mobile game, Plants vs. Zombies, has its fair share of fans all over the world, and they have been clamoring for a newer version of the game for quite some time already. Of course, PopCap did oblige this particular group of gamers and Plants vs. Zombies 2 proved to be quite the hit when it finally arrived, achieving 16 million downloads along the way, resulting in it being one of EA’s most successful mobile game launches in the company’s history. The good news does not seem to stop there, however, as PopCap has teased the world with a trailer of sorts which could possibly clue us in to the next update or expansion in the Plants vs. Zombies 2 universe.

The trailer itself depicts what seems to be an ordinary zombie who is standing in the midst of a field (filled with crops, is he on a suicide mission or something?), and when the camera pans out, it shows a rather huge crop circle corn maze. Will this particular title have anything to do with extraterrestrial life, since crop circles tend to be connected to life from outer space in popular culture. All I can say is, we cannot wait soon enough for more information on what could be.

The Keyboard As You Know It Could Be Rendered Obsolete

The Keyboard As You Know It Could Be Rendered ObsoleteResearchers over at Microsoft such as Andy Wilson have recently invited others folk including the head of Information and Computing Sciences department at SRI, Bill Mark, in order to kick off a discussion on the future of keyboards – or at the very least, the physical QWERTY keyboard that we have all come to know, love, and use on a daily basis. The general consensus among this particular group? Computer keyboards as we know them probably would not have much of a future. This particular group of like minded people claim that newer technologies, including touchscreen displays as well as eye tracking devices will replace the keyboard for most people sometime down the future, although as to the exact time period where that moment will arrive remains to be seen.

Wilson shared, “Eventually, [keyboards] will become more of a niche thing, like programmers for example. You could almost see that with the workstation market. Workstations are going to be these altars to extreme computing, visualization, computational power, Visual Studio. And only a small percentage of users do that.”

Perhaps there is the implication that keyboards will eventually be limited to only a niche market – where they would comprise of professionals or creative experts. Mark continued from where Wilson left off, “When you think about a pen — or something like a pen, going back to a stylus writing in clay — that’s been around for a really long time. That’s because it works very well in certain situations. My personal feeling is that keyboards will be like that. However, I think we’ll be seeing them a lot less …”

Lenovo CEO shares $3.25 million of his bonus with employees (again) after record year

Lenovo CEO shares $325 million of his bonus with employees again after record year

After helping Lenovo thrive in the wretched PC industry — while also making it the number one Chinese smartphone maker — CEO Yang Yuanqing earned a sizeable bonus. And like last year, he’s sharing the wealth with front-line employees, giving $3.25 million of his $14.6 million salary to 10,000 workers in 20 countries. Lenovo grabbed a record $34 billion during its last fiscal year, along with an all-time high $653 million in profit. While the sum he shared may be small compared to that, it’s almost a month’s pay for the 85 percent who work in China. And we can’t say we’ve seen too many CEOs stateside willing to part with their personal private jet fuel stash.

Dad “Hacks” Wheelchair For Kid To Increase Mobility

Have you read the book, “The 5 Languages of Love?” Different folks express their love to one another differently, some do it via words, others through action, and others through gifts. Well, here is one dad who loves his kid so much, that he actually modified his son’s wheelchair. Shea, father to 2-year old Alejandro, whom the latter suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy that severely limits his ability to move, decided that a power wheelchair was just what Alejandro needed to gain a degree of mobility. The thing is, his health insurance is unable to cover the power wheelchair for another five years, so in a stroke of genius, he decided to get down and dirty, building one power wheelchair by himself.

The template was an $800 adult-sized powered wheelchair from eBay, which was then modified thoroughly in terms of size and how it is controlled. According to Shea, “Alejandro’s toes, while quite weak, seem to respond faster to his motor intentions than his two working fingers, so I decided to focus my efforts there.” The wheelchair’s power system was modified to be controlled via foot pedals, and with this labor of love, Alejandro now has freedom of movement of the outside world – at least to the areas where a wheelchair can move about.

Gel-Based Robot Balls Help To Clean Your Pad

Gel Based Robot Balls Help To Clean Your PadHave you moved on from the broom to the vacuum cleaner in order to keep your humble abode nice and clean? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you might have also “graduated” to a robotic vacuum cleaner, where the Roomba brand from iRobot would definitely be something that most people are familiar with. What then, is the next evolutionary step for a robotic vacuum cleaner like the Roomba? Juan Lee’s take on the next generation of robotic vacuum cleaners would come in the form of gel-based robot balls.

So far, this particular device has yet to be christened, but it does resemble a Roomba (you do not reinvent the wheel after all), where it is capable of sending out gel balls that are reminders of those sticky hands that you used to purchase for a quarter. The balls themselves will carry tiny robots that are able to “chat” electronically with the main hub, which will in turn suck the balls back in once those tiny critters have gotten the job done – at least to the best of their ability. The hub will then ensure that the small gel-based robot balls will be cleaned up, before they are sent out for yet another cleaning mission. It is right now but a concept, although it would be cool to see it become reality in due time.

Mighty No. 9 Now A Kickstarter Project

Mighty No. 9 Now A Kickstarter ProjectThere are plenty of Kickstarter projects that have made quite a name for themselves over the months and past year, but here is a Kickstarter project that the gaming community will fall for. Keiji Inafune, a household name for those who are huge fans of the original Megaman as he is the game’s co-designer, in addition to producing the Dead Rising series as well as numerous Resident Evil titles, intends to return to his roots. Inafune announced at PAX over the weekend that he will be working on a spanking new 2D action shooter, calling it Mighty No.9.

It seems to closely resemble and play a whole lot like some of his previous hits, and the plot is rather familiar. You will play the role of a rather gung-ho robot who has to do battle with half a dozen rogue automatons (or eight, depending on the amount of funding that it will receive), while stealing special weapons and abilities from his vanquished enemies. Capcom has not had a reaction yet – and Inafune needs your help to make this Kickstarter project a success, where he is targeting a total of $900,000 in a matter of 30 days so that he can start cracking on this title. $20 will net you a digital copy of the game via Steam, while $40 will include digital copies of the game manual, art book/strategy guide and a copy of the original soundtrack.

EnerGenie ePP2 eReader Also Doubles Up As An ePaper PrinterNot all eReaders are created equal – and the EnerGenie ePP2 eReader is one of the more special ones out there, being a 9.7” device that has been specially positioned itself as an ePaper printer. This is definitely the device for all of you who want to take the green and eco-friendly route, where the EnerGenie ePP2 eReader will be plugged into the PC, and it will register itself as a printer. Through this particular method, you are able to “print” documents directly to the eReader, which is in a similar manner as to how you use a virtual printer that allows you to save a document as a PDF on your desktop.

The EnerGenie ePP2 will also feature a display that is pretty much decent if you want to use it as an eReader, sporting a 9.7” display at 1,600 x 1,200 pixel resolution. Other hardware specifications include touchscreen capability and a stylus so that you can opt to add in your notes, signatures, or even doodles to your documents. There will also be an 800MHz processor that is accompanied by 256MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and a 2,350mAh battery. The thing is, it runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is a bummer, and it is tipped to carry a price tag of approximately 399 to 499 Euros.

XiaoMi ZiMi Tablet Reportedly In The Works

XiaoMi ZiMi Tablet Reportedly In The WorksThe world of tablets is an interesting one for sure, and we have heard our fair share of rumors about Apple about to unleash a new iPhone and possibly even a new and refreshed iPad later this month. Chinese manufacturer XiaoMi has been reported to be working on a new tablet that is known as the ZiMi tablet. Is it just me, or do the folks over at XiaoMi like to mix uppercase and lowercase characters in their product names? Ah well, a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, right?

With recent word that the former Vice President of Android Division, Hugo Barra, has already resigned from his position at Google and is on his way to link up with XiaoMi Global, this might be the ideal time for XiaoMi to line up a new product announcement due to the attention that is still freshly centered on them. Apparently, XiaoMi has already sent out an invitation to relevant parties that they will be launching a new flagship device in a few days’ time – September 5th, to be exact, and it will most probably be the new XiaoMi ZiMi tablet, also known as Purple Rice. Rumored to run on a 1.9GHz Tegra 4 processor and 2GB RAM, it will be powered by a MIUI ROM that is based on Android.
