In U.S. Spying Case, Europe Mulls Sanctions Against Americans

BERLIN — BERLIN (AP) — The United States could lose access to an important law enforcement tool used to track terrorist money flows, German officials said Monday, as Europe weighs a response to allegations that the Americans spied on their closest European allies.

Spain became the latest U.S. ally to demand answers after a Spanish newspaper reported that the National Security Agency monitored more than 60 million phone calls in that country during one month alone. The report Monday in the daily El Mundo came on the heels of allegations of massive NSA spying in France and Germany, including Chancellor Angela Merkel’s own cellphone.

FAU Student Says He Was Denied A Laptop Because He’s Gay

An openly gay student at Florida Atlantic University believes a campus librarian denied him the use of a laptop due to his sexuality.

Abdul Asquith attempted on Oct. 23 to check out a laptop at the Wimberly Library on the Boca Raton, Fla. campus. The laptop checkout requires valid university-issued identification, but when Asquith showed his FAU ID, the librarian refused him

Asquith said the librarian looked at the ID and remarked, “You sound, look and act like a girl and in this ID is a man, therefore I’m not giving you a laptop.”

If your idea of dressing up for Halloween is more gore and less sex appeal, then it’s only right that you transform into a zombie. The rotting corpses are popular costumes again thanks to TV shows like “The Walking Dead” and films such as “World War Z” and “Warm Bodies.”

Watch the video above to see how HuffPost Live makeup artist Kari Bauce used latex paint, fake blood and a blowdryer to turn host Caitlyn Becker from beauty to beast.

JonBenet Ramsey’s Killer ‘May Be Lost Forever’ Because Of Unsigned Indictment

The chance to catch the killer of JonBenet Ramsey and put a close to one of the nation’s most notoriously unsolved crimes may be gone forever, according to a statement issued Friday by the city of Boulder’s Police Department.

Last Friday marked the first time that the public was able to view the secret indictment that contained the charges by a grand jury against the Ramseys. The district attorney at the time, Alex Hunter, decided not to sign the indictment citing a lack of evidence and apparently believing that he could not prosecute the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

“Investigators at the time were disappointed in the then-district attorney’s decision not to issue indictments,” read a statement issued by the Boulder Police Dept. “Cases are rarely perfect and often contain conflicting evidence. As a result, the opportunity to present the entire case to a jury may be lost forever.”

Side-scrolling, Mario-inspired resume rocks the job hunt

In Robby Leonardi's resume, the piranha plants are a good thing.

(Credit: Screenshot by Amanda Kooser/CNET)

I would be surprised if designer Robby Leonardi doesn’t already have some job offers in hand. Leonardi created one of the most memorable resumes to ever cross an HR person’s eyes. Rather than settle for a boring slip of paper, he built out a Web site that is navigated like Super Mario.

The side-scrolling resume delves into a colorful world inspired by old-school video gaming. It’s the most fun you’ll ever have reading about someone’s career credentials. You control the forward and backward movement of a little animated Leonardi as he progresses through his skill set, hobbies, and job experience.

Leonardi is currently a Web site content developer specializing in graphics for Fox News, but he will entertain queries for his multidisciplinary design services.

Nexus 5 Apparently In Stock At Carphone Warehouse

Nexus 5 Apparently In Stock At Carphone Warehouse

Google is yet to reveal when it is going to announce the anxiously awaited Nexus 5 smartphone, let alone when it is going to be available for purchase. The company hasn’t rolled out invites for a launch event as yet, though it is expected to make the announcement in the coming days. Apparently one of the largest retailers in the UK, Carphone Warehouse, is sitting on a large stock on Nexus 5 units prior to the launch. The retailer is believed to have as many as 3,000 Nexus 5 units, 1,500 both in black and white, in stock at its Wednesbury warehouse.

Its certainly not unusual for retailers to start receiving stock ahead of an official announcement, that’s why we often see so many screenshots of internal inventory systems being leaked online. This particular screenshot does seem to belong to the internal inventory system that Carphone Warehouse uses, an archaic yellow and blue user interface that has been previously seen in a number of other leaks. It is obviously not known if the 3,000 units are all that going to be supplied to the retailer initially, or if its going to receive additional shipments prior to the release. A latest rumor pegs the Nexus 5 launch date at November 1st. [Image via AndroidPolice]

Husband Turns Life Savings Into Gold, Then Dumps It So His Wife Can’t Have It During Divorce

A 52-year-old Colorado Springs man says he converted his life savings — $500,000 — into gold and then tossed it all into a trash bin, all so he could keep it from his wife of 25 years from getting a penny of it in their divorce settlement.

“Damn right I did,” Earl Ray Jones said in a deposition to his wife’s divorce attorney, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported. Jones says he raided the couple’s retirement and investment accounts and converted it all into gold bars and coins — about 22 pounds worth.

Jones then says, during several trips, he took the fortune and tossed it into a trash bin behind a Colorado Springs motel.
