AP Fires Third Employee Over Terry McAuliffe Mistake; Guild ‘Alarmed’

NEW YORK — The News Media Guild, which represents employees of The Associated Press, responded Tuesday to the recent firing of journalists involved in a retracted story about Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe.

“The firings have alarmed AP employees nationwide, and the News Media Guild will vigorously enforce the contractual rights of the employees it represents,” Guild president Martha Waggoner told The Huffington Post in a statement.

The Huffington Post first reported Monday that the AP had fired veteran Virginia political reporter Bob Lewis and Richmond-based editor Dena Potter over an erroneous Oct. 9 report alleging that McAuliffe had lied to a federal investigator.

Phillip Coon, 94-Year-Old WWII Veteran, Honored With Military Medals Decades Later (VIDEO)

TULSA, Okla. — TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Given the choice, World War II veteran Phillip Coon probably wouldn’t want the formality and fuss of being honored on a military base with men and women standing at attention, dressed in full regalia — even if it was with a fistful of long-overdue medals he waited decades to receive.

So it’s fitting that the awards were presented to the humble Tulsa-area man Monday evening in an informal ceremony at the Tulsa International Airport, with family and fellow veterans in attendance and little pomp and circumstance.

Now watch in horror as their tiny insides are slowly revealed…

These nightmare-inducing candles, titled The Devil’s Pet were conceptualized by Icelandic artist Thorunn Arnadottir using a tiny aluminum skeleton inside of a wax casting.

Sweet little kittens are transformed in a fire. Crawling from the ashes come forth grinning metallic devils with sharp claws and fire blazing in their eyes.

Now that’s quite a visual.

Due to popular demand, Thorunn plans on producing these candles via a Kickstarter campaign in the near future. If you’re interested in grabbing some once they’re available, hit this link to sign up for the artist’s newsletter. It’s too bad they won’t be ready for Halloween. Oh well, there’s always next year.
