O2 To Offer HTC One Covered Gold In Sweepstakes

O2 To Offer HTC One Covered Gold In SweepstakesWe are more often than not told to “go for gold” in whatever that we do, and when it comes to the word “gold”, it does bring about a fair number of expressions such as “a golden opportunity”, or “good as gold”, or even “the Golden Rule”. Well, gold is something that has stirred up the greed in mankind ever since it was discovered, and it will continue to do so. O2, a mobile provider in the UK, is feeling generous enough to give away an 18-carat gold HTC One to a lucky customer. Basically, this is a marketing move to sell even more HTC Ones, as each HTC One that is sold at O2 stores between today and Sunday will be accompanied by a golden ticket that will carry a code. This code can be entered online in order for you to stand a chance to win that elusive HTC One that comes covered in 18 carat gold.

There are only five in the entire country (the UK), and the street price for this 18 carat gold HTC One happens to cost more than £2,000, which by far and large would make it the most exclusive and expensive phone that has rolled out by HTC to date. Of course, we will not take into consideration those custom design jobs that see a smartphone blinged out with diamonds and other precious gems. Apart from a gold HTC One, the lucky winner will also pick up tickets to the MOBO tour at The O2 this coming November 14th.

IsoHunt Owner Fined $110 Million, To Shut Down By End Of This Week

IsoHunt Owner Fined $110 Million, To Shut Down By End Of This WeekIn what can be considered to be a landmark settlement, the owner of the site IsoHunt has been ordered to fork out $110 million as compensation, and will have to shut down the site before the new week begins. This ruling certainly sends out a strong signal to future infringers of the risks that they are taking. Court records which were filed today saw that Gary Fung, the owner of IsoHunt, has been given until the end of the week to shut down his BitTorrent search engine, apart from other related sites such as TorrenTBox and Podtropolis. Fung has also agreed to fork out money to pay different movie studios and other media production groups up to $110 million in damages as part of a deal to end the legal wrangle that has lasted a long seven years already.

MPAA chairman Chris Dodd said, “Today’s settlement is a major step forward in realizing the enormous potential of the internet as a platform for legitimate commerce and innovation. t also sends a strong message that those who build businesses around encouraging, enabling, and helping others to commit copyright infringement are themselves infringers, and will be held accountable for their illegal actions. The successful outcome of this landmark lawsuit will also will help preserve jobs and protect the tens of thousands of businesses in the creative industries, whose hard work and investments are exploited by sites like isoHunt.”

All’s well that ends well, right?

Haiii-yah! Sharp Chop-Syc Chopping Board Is Interactive

Haiii yah! Sharp Chop Syc Chopping Board Is InteractiveDo you love Fruit Ninja? That is definitely one fun game to enjoy, with your finger acting as some sort of cleaver which will slice and dice fruits that float up magically in the air before being subjected to the law of gravity and falling back down to earth again. Basically, it brings the ordinary chopping board to life. Well, in real life, we tend to have wood or plastic as the materials of choice when it comes to our chopping boards, but a particular Sharp intern decided that life should be more fun than that. Apart from the choice of material, she hopes that both resolution and processor power will eventually end up as important choices for a chopping board, too, resulting in the Chop-Syc.

The Chop-Syc is the idea of a certain Siobhán Andrews, who happens to also be the winner of a competition that saw her end up as a paid intern with Sharp in the UK. Basically, the Chop-Syc would be a tablet that runs on a custom software, and it also boasts of a scratch-proof surface which allows it to be specifically used in a kitchen. Apart from that, it also doubles up as a surface for slicing and dicing, with the tablet being your electronic recipe book, functioning as a scale as well as visualizer so that you are better able to envision various food serving sizes. Right now it remains as a prototype, but it would be something to see it realized.

PlayStation 4 In Brazil Will Cost $1,850

PlayStation 4 In Brazil Will Cost $1,850For those living in North America, Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 will cost $399 which we’re sure is still expensive for some, but that pales in comparison to what the folks in Argentina are paying which after conversion would cost them roughly $1,100. Well it seems that you no longer need to feel bad for your friends in Argentina because it looks like over in Brazil, they have it worse. The console is expected to see a release in Brazil towards the end of November and it is expected to come with a price tag of R$3,999, which after conversion would mean that Brazilians would be paying the equivalent of $1,850 for a brand new PlayStation 4 console!

Yup that’s the price tag that they’d have to pay which is also about 4 times as much as the price in the US! Speaking to the folks at G1, Sony Brazil explained the reason behind the price, claiming that the cost of the console in Brazil includes the import fees and taxes, which amount to about $1,292, leaving the remainder as the price of the console itself. As for PS4 games, Brazilian gamers will have to fork out R$179, which is about $80 per game. It is still more expensive compared to the US, but given how much the console costs, it does seem somewhat reasonable. Ouch.

Blizzard All-Stars Renamed To Heroes Of The Storm

It is no secret that Blizzard has been working on a DotA-like game for a while now which has been known as Blizzard All-Stars, at least until recently where the developer released a short trailer (check it out in the video above) in which they reintroduce the game as, Heroes of the Storm. The trademark for “Heroes of the Storm” was filed for a couple of weeks ago, and we guess that the name is now used for Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA, although previously some speculated that it could be the name for an upcoming World of Warcraft expansion.

The original game has been teased for quite a while now and we have not heard much from Blizzard about its features, or seen screenshots, or when we might see a release. However with this renaming of the game and the teaser trailer that was released with it, hopefully Blizzard will be able to share some concrete details come BlizzCon 2013 which will be taking place in November. As it stands there are a couple of games similar in style, such as the original DotA, League of Legends, and Valve’s DotA 2, so it will be interesting to see how well-received Heroes of the Storm will be. What do you guys think?

Nexus 5 Makes An Appearance On Google Play

Nexus 5 Makes An Appearance On Google PlaySo it was only just now that a rendering of the upcoming Nexus 5 was leaked and to help make things a little more official, it seems that the US Google Play store has listed the Nexus 5 along with a short description of the handset. Unfortunately the actual listing for the device is not accessible at the moment, meaning that the full specs of the handset is still unknown. The device appears to come with a price tag of $349 which is different from the $399 price that we heard of a few days ago. That is the price of the 16GB model, so presumably the 32GB model could retail for around the $400 mark.

For those who haven’t been following the news, the Nexus 5 is the upcoming Nexus device from Google and it is expected to be announced sometime later this month. Some of its alleged specs include a 5” Full HD display a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, an 8MP camera, and will obviously be running on Android 4.4 KitKat which is currently the latest version of Google’s Android operating system. No word on when exactly the device will launch, but hopefully with this listing, we will be hearing an announcement from Google in the near future.
