Nick Carr, Man Restricted To A Wheelchair For 23 Years, Walks 65 Feet To Raise Money For Others (VIDEO)

Doctors told Nick Carr he would never walk again, but this week the 26-year-old proved them wrong. Carr put himself through excruciating pain to walk 65 feet during a charity tour of the UK, SWNS reports.

It was all to raise money for a proposed innovative sports center in Carr’s hometown of Cornwall in England. The Centre of Challenge and Inspiration would allow people with disabilities to exercise mentally and physically in ways that work best for them.

Carr was diagnosed with encephalitis — an inflammation of the brain — when he was 3 years old and has been restricted to a wheelchair ever since.

Samsung Didn’t Expect ‘This Level Of Uncertainty’ With Note 3 Region Lock

Samsung Didnt Expect This Level Of Uncertainty With Note 3 Region Lock

A few weeks back it was discovered that Samsung’s latest flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 3, could be region locked. This meant trouble for those who travel frequently or those who rely on the grey market for their latest smartphone/phablet fix. Samsung later clarified that region locking only applied to first time activations of the device only. Still, the region locking debacle created a lot of confusion for customers. Samsung has finally acknowledged the confusion caused by this move, it says that it didn’t expect “this degree of uncertainty,” and that “pleasant and smooth user experience” for its customers is the company’s top priority.

However, this doesn’t mean that Samsung is going to stop region locking in the future. The company has made it clear that region locking is here to stay, even in the existing products. But Samsung says that it is intensively examining how it can simplify and optimize the process more for customers. Samsung says that it has taken customer feedback and analyzed many questions that were put forward. Perhaps the company might even shore up the region lock’s defenses. Soon after it came to light, a procedure to bypass region lock on Galaxy Note 3 was already developed and released to the public.

Bad Lip Reading takes on ‘Game of Thrones’

(Credit: Video screenshot by Michelle Starr/CNET Australia)

Bad Lip Reading is one of the best channels on YouTube. For real. If the name didn’t give it away, it takes existing footage and then posits what the people in that footage could be saying just by reading their lips.

Of particular note is “Gang Fight” starring Rebecca Black (we can’t wait to see what they make of “Chinese Food“); “Kicked Your Monkey” starring Gotye; and “The Walking (and Talking) Dead.”

We just don’t know what the best bit is. Watch it for yourself below and see if you can figure out it.

Nancy Pelosi Defends Kentucky Dam Add-On In Funding Bill

WASHINGTON — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday there were “bigger things to object to” in the bill that reopened the government than the $2.1 billion for the so-called “Kentucky Kickback” dam project, as reporters pressed her at length on the congressional practice of inserting special interest provisions into appropriations bills.

A reporter asked Pelosi about criticism over several add-ons in the continuing resolution Congress passed Wednesday night, and Pelosi responded that many of her members have “some of the same questions” about certain elements of the bill that was negotiated in the Senate.

“Now, we in the House are always suspicious of the Senate when they want to go first, and what are they doing over there,” Pelosi said.

Alireza M., Iranian Man Who Survived Gallows, May Face Second Execution

Iran’s judiciary chief, Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani, faced competing calls on Thursday whether to spare a convicted drug trafficker who survived the gallows.

The prisoner, identified only as Alireza M., 37, was pronounced dead by the attending doctor after spending 12 minutes hanging from the noose suspended from a crane in a jail in northeastern Iran.

But the following day, staff at the mortuary in the city of Bojnourd where his shrouded body was taken discovered to their shock that he was still breathing.

He is now recovering in hospital while jurists argue over whether the law requires that he be taken to the gallows a second time.

Amnesty International called for an immediate stay of execution for Alireza M. and for all other death row prisoners in Iran, which carried out more executions last year than any other country bar China.

“The horrific prospect of this man facing a second hanging, after having gone through the whole ordeal already once, merely underlines the cruelty and inhumanity of the death penalty,” the watchdog’s Middle East and North Africa programme director Philip Luther said.

“The Iranian authorities must immediately halt Alireza M.’s execution and issue a moratorium on all others.”

Iranian jurists were divided over what should be done.

One high-ranking judge, Nourollah Aziz-Mohammadi, told the Iran newspaper the law required that the convict be put to death, and that he should be taken to the gallows a second time.

“When a convict is sentenced to death, he must die after the sentence is carried out,” Aziz-Mohammadi said.

“Now that he is alive, we can say the sentence was not carried out and must be repeated.”

But other lawyers signed a petition to the judiciary chief appealing for a stay in the exceptional case.

“In our law, nothing has been said about a person who survives hanging after 24 hours,” one signatory, Abdolsamad Khoramshahi, told the paper.

“Since the sentence was carried out, there is no reason to repeat the sentence.”

Verizon Slashes Prices Of All New Droid Smartphones

Verizon Slashes Prices Of All New Droid Smartphones

Earlier this year, in August to be precise, Verizon launched its all new Droid lineup. The smartphones are actually made by Motorola, but they’re exclusive to the Big Red. Three models were announced, the Droid Mini, Droid Maxx and Droid Ultra. Two months down the line, Verizon has decided to slash prices of all of the three models. Its intriguing to see Verizon take this step within just two months of the smartphones being launched, the carrier has offered no explanation as to why its slashing the prices.

Verizon Droid Maxx was originally priced at $299 with a two year contract. This particular smartphone has a 3,500mAh battery, which makes it a viable choice for those who value battery life above all else. The Maxx is now down to $199, with a two year contract on Verizon. Droid Ultra is a thin and light device, which is now down to just $99.99 on contract from its previous price of $199.99. Last but not the least, the Droid Mini sees a price cut from $99 to $49. This would probably be a good time to make a purchase if you’ve been holding out on purchasing a new Droid. Verizon has given no indication if the price cuts are a limited time promotion.
