This weekend was a pretty big one for Nintendo as not only did they release Pokemon X & Y at a record-breaking pace, but they also released a new handheld called the Nintendo 2DS. We were able to get some hands-on time with the Nintendo 2DS this past weekend at New York Comic Con, and after playing around with the handheld, we are certainly curious to see what makes the device tick. We would have busted open a 2DS at New York Comic Con, but we’re happy we didn’t as Rose Colored Gaming has gone ahead and taken apart the handheld. (more…)

For those of us living in Europe as well as the US, it pays to be patient as the PS4 and Xbox One are tipped to arrive next month, which frankly, is not too far away considering just how fast time seems to fly these days. Well, we do know that a demonstration pod of the Sony PS4 has already been spotted, while the retail packaging of this next generation console, too, has been revealed alongside a slew of accessories. What other things can we learn about the Sony PS4 then? Apparently, a video has leaked out that reveals the features as well as user interface of the PS4 console.
This leaked video was recorded in French, where it will be accompanied by commentary from the uploader, with some of the features outlined including Trophies, PSN Store, Profiles, Messages, and the Friends list among others. I suppose you will gain a whole lot more out of this particular video if the French language is your strong suit, not to mention that the video is rather lengthy so there might be a whole lot more detail that has yet to be gleaned by a non-French speaking person like me. Would you get one, or both next generation video game consoles?

At the beginning of this month – a fortnight ago, to be exact, we brought you word that Halo 3 would be free for Xbox 360 Gold members on October 16th. Well, we have already seen the calendar turn 16 for the month of October, so just how true was that particular bit of reporting? 100% true, apparently, as existing subscribers to Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold service are now able to download as well as play the full version of Halo 3. Just in case you were wondering, Halo 3 is not all that new, it was the 2007 Xbox 360 entry, so I guess you can more or less consider this to be a bit of retro gaming on the side. So, if you happen to be an Xbox Live Gold member, you will be able to download Halo 3 between now and October 31st.
On normal days, Halo 3 would require you to spend $14.99 in order to download it from the Games on Demand service, but all of that has been negated at the moment if you happen to be in the right membership tier. This is due to it being part of Microsoft’s recent “Games for Gold” program which will offer at the bare minimum a couple of free games each month from the Xbox 360 catalog to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Of course, this means if you want any of the post-release DLC content, you will have to fork out money for those.

We’re officially under one month away from the release of the PlayStation 4, which will be released starting on November 15 in the U.S. We can certainly feel the excitement for the next generation of video game consoles to finally be released here in the Ubergizmo offices, and apparently so can Sony as they have already started offering pre-orders of PlayStation 4 games through the PlayStation Network. Underwater Wi-Fi Could Be A Reality

Wi-Fi networks are definitely a hallmark of modern day cities and metropolises. After all, most of the time when we go to a cafe or coffee shop, we might look around not for the menu, but perhaps, for the Wi-Fi password of the local network there. Apart from public places, we have also seen in-flight Wi-Fi catching on, although it does add up after a while. Wi-Fi on trains and buses are also getting more and more common, so I guess the final frontier at this point in time would be to be able to enjoy Wi-Fi while you are underwater. Granted, most of us would not end up in such a situation since the percentage of folks in the Navy is quite low in comparison to other occupations among the general populace, but to be able to enjoy an “underwater Wi-Fi” network is still a cool idea, don’t you think so?
A team from the University of Buffalo, New York, claimed that this particular technology could eventually help to detect tsunamis, which would offer a whole lot more reliability when it comes to early warning systems. That would go some way to save human lives in the long run, too. The aim of this project is to come up with an agreed standard for underwater communications, allowing it easier to perform interaction and data-sharing. Underwater Wi-Fi will be different from the normal sense of the word, as it relies on sound waves instead of radio waves. When will we see the first underwater tweet or Facebook update?
