Sprint Offers HTC One Max With Unlimited Data Experience

Sprint Offers HTC One Max With Unlimited Data ExperienceThe HTC One max was officially announced to the world earlier this week (in fact, it was just yesterday morning that the larger sized version of the HTC One hit the news wires officially), right after we have seen a fair amount of leaks and alleged hardware specifications roll out just days or weeks before that. Well, Sprint has already stepped forward to say that they will offer the HTC One max smartphone before the year is over.

David Owens, head of Product, Sprint, had this to say about the HTC One max, “Over the years, Sprint has teamed up with HTC to bring our customers some of the most innovative devices in smartphone history. I am pleased to see our relationship continue to grow as we launch the newest addition to the HTC One family, HTC One max. With the dynamic features available on this device, we know customers will be enjoying heavy amounts of data. Sprint customers will have the peace of mind of not having to worry about data caps or overage charges. While other wireless providers move away from unlimited service, Sprint stands behind its commitment with Sprint Unlimited Guarantee, allowing our customers to lock-in unlimited talk, text and data, while on the Sprint network, not for just the next two years, but for the life of the line of service.”

I guess that’s that then – if you are on Sprint and your contract is about to be up, perhaps it is time you took a look at what the HTC One max has to offer if you want to make the jump to a phablet experience this time around. [Press Release]

    Why?: The Vowels Pt. 2

It took me far too long to realize it, but Why?’s 2008 album Alopecia is a lyrical, sonic masterpiece. I really only started loving the band this past year, but I’ve been on a major Why? kick this month. It’s this that led me to stumble upon the entrancing gem of a video by YouTube user Chad Kofahl above.

Free Office 365 ProPlus For Students From Microsoft, Kind Of

Free Office 365 ProPlus For Students From Microsoft, Kind OfFrom December 1st, 2013 onward, if you happen to be a student, you will be able to access Microsoft’s cloud-based Office 365 ProPlus without having to fork out a single cent for it, kind of anyways. The folks over at Microsoft has just announced the availability of a new Student Advantage program which would enable any academic institution which licenses Office 365 ProPlus or Office Professional Plus for staff and faculty, in order for them to provide Office 365 ProPlus to its students as well – for free! This would mean that the entire suite of products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, InfoPath, and Access, will be part of the equation.

At the moment, a ballpark figure of the number of people who use the cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 Education happens to stand at somewhere in the region of 110 million students, faculty, and staff. With the introduction of Office 365 ProPlus, students will be able to enjoy “all the familiar and full Office applications — locally installed on up to five devices and available offline.” There are over 35,000 institutions which happen to be automatically eligible to participate in the Student Advantage service, and it will also play nice with different cloud services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online, where all of them are free via Office 365 Education.

Apple Asking Developers To Submit Apps For OS X Mavericks

Apple Asking Developers To Submit Apps For OS X MavericksApple’s OS X Mavericks was announced in the middle of the year during the Cupertino company’s WWDC 2013 event, and while a Fall release date was mentioned, no specific dates were provided. However with Apple confirming their 22nd of October event, it is widely believed that is when Apple will officially release OS X Mavericks to the masses, or at least provide us with a date to look forward to. In any case it definitely looks like Apple is gearing up for a release as they have since notified developers and are asking them to submit and update their apps to take advantage of some of the new features of the upcoming operating system.

According to the notification, “Make sure your app takes advantage of the great new features in OS X Mavericks when the world’s most advanced desktop operating system becomes available to millions of customers later this fall. Download OS X Mavericks GM seed and Xcode 5.0.1 GM seed, now available on the Mac Dev Center. Build your apps with these latest seeds, then test and submit them to the Mac App Store.” As it stands OS X Mavericks has been released in as a GM build so a release in the near future is more than likely. Check back with us on the 22nd of October for the details.

BlackBerry Reportedly Signs NDA With Cerberus

BlackBerry Reportedly Signs NDA With CerberusWe had previously heard that apart from Fairfax, there are others who might be interested in BlackBerry as well, and one of them was Cerberus. At that time, Cerberus’ interest was merely that of interest, but now a report from Bloomberg has revealed that Cerberus has indeed signed an NDA with BlackBerry and are reportedly in the early stages of considering a takeover bid. As it stands, BlackBerry is believed to be taken over by Fairfax and have reportedly signed a letter of intent, but at the same time BlackBerry is allowed to shop for other bidders during the process in the event that they find something better. Fairfax’s bid on BlackBerry was valued at $4.7 billion and with Cerberus being an equity firm specializing in distressed investments, it is unclear as to how much they could offer BlackBerry, and what they plan to do with the company should the deal go through.

It had been previously reported that BlackBerry had gone shopping for other potential bidders and had even approached the likes of Intel, Google, and Samsung to see if they might be interested in buying them out. Given BlackBerry’s vast portfolio of mobile-related patents and then some, there is some value to the company, although their recent attempts at re-entering the smartphone market with BlackBerry 10 fell short of expectations. In any case we’re not sure if BlackBerry will be able to close a deal by November, which is the timeframe they gave themselves, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for updates.

Microsoft Reportedly Relaxing Hardware Capacitive Button Requirements For Windows Phone

Microsoft Reportedly Relaxing Hardware Capacitive Button Requirements For Windows PhoneAs it stands, Windows Phone 8 smartphones feature 3 hardware capacitive buttons at the bottom of the device. One is the back button, the other is the Start button, and one is the search button, all of which sort of helps identify that it is a Windows Phone device (primarily thanks to the Start button, we suppose). However it seems that in the future, Microsoft will apparently be relaxing some of their hardware requires for Windows Phone manufacturers and it is possible that OEMs will soon be able to build Windows Phone devices without hardware capacitive buttons.

The reasoning behind this is to help cut costs, especially for smaller OEMs who might not have as much resources, and who might not be designing the phones themselves and are purchasing reference designs from other companies. To make up for the lack of said buttons, it has been suggested that Microsoft is currently experimenting with on-screen buttons to ensure that functionality will not be affected by users who are used to the buttons on their phones, such as building apps around the back button and such. Google has built similar functionality into Android, so it wouldn’t be a complete stretch of the imagination if Microsoft were to follow suit.
