Galaxy S5 To Have ‘Exynos 6′ 14nm 64-Bit Processor [Rumor]

Galaxy S5 To Have Exynos 6 14nm 64 Bit Processor [Rumor]

It was recently reported that Samsung is developing new mobile chipsets based on the 20nm manufacturing process. These chips would have offered better performance and efficiency as compared to existing 28nm chips. Rumor has it that Samsung might skip the 20nm manufacturing process altogether and instead adopt the 14nm processor straight from the existing 28nm. The reason why Samsung is making this decision, according to Korean DDaily News, is because it wants to make a “comeback” in the foundry business amid mounting competition from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., commonly known as TSMC.

TSMC is working on 20nm chips already, so Samsung just might be willing to go one step ahead so as to bolster its dominance in the foundry business. The 14nm “Exynos 6″ chip is said to have 64-bit support as well, along with ARM big.LITTLE octacore configuration and Cortex A53/A57 cores. Apparently these cores will be operational simultaneously while needing almost half the power that the Exynos 5420 chip requires. Samsung is said to finish production of sample units by the end of this year. Samsung Galaxy S5 is reportedly going to be the first smartphone to debut these new chips, though that might not pan out if recent rumors are true. Apparently Samsung has pushed Galaxy S5 launch to January 2014 as Galaxy S4 sales have reportedly not met internal expectations.

When the Next Flu Pandemic Hits, Keep Your Smartphone to Yourself

When the Next Flu Pandemic Hits, Keep Your Smartphone to Yourself

At the end of World War I, tens of millions of people died in just a few short years. But these deaths had nothing to do with the bullets and bayonets that had taken so many lives in battle. It was, instead, the Spanish Flu, which killed off about 5% of the world’s population from 1918 until 1920. Were a similar pandemic to hit today, one of the things we’d need to rethink is how we use our phones.

“The Walking Dead” returned for its fourth season Sunday night on AMC. On one hand, fans were treated to the usual dose of creeping, shuffling, bloody dead things. On the other hand, everybody has to wait a week for the next installment.

Fortunately, you don’t have to go zombie-free during that time. We’ve rounded up five of the greatest zombie short films to ever grace the Internet.

These shorts have it all, from pathos to intestines, from blood to deeply moving emotional moments. Just a warning: If you’re at work, there are extremely gross moments and strong language in some of these. Here they are, in no particular order.

“Cargo”: This short is the wordless story of a survivor and his baby daughter. It lunges at, and takes a bite out of, your heart with a well-crafted seven minutes of grasping zombies wrapped around a deep emotional core. If you thought you would never cry over a zombie movie, this might change your mind.

“Too Late”: In just two minutes, this film manages to gross you out and then completely turn your expectations around.

“Spoiler” takes place in a post-zombie-apocalypse world where the threat of infection still lingers. The stakes are high and the tension ratchets up as a coroner is called in to evaluat… [Read more]

Samsung Galaxy Round Releases In South Korea This Week

Samsung Galaxy Round Releases In South Korea This Week

Over the past couple of weeks there was a lot of speculation about Samsung releasing a smartphone with a curved display. Earlier this week we saw a picture of said smartphone leak online, before the company officially announced it as the Samsung Galaxy Round. The company hasn’t said when this smartphone will make its way over to the U.S., we expected that it will first release it in its native South Korea, and that’s exactly what its going to do later this week. Samsung Galaxy Round goes on sale in South Korea this week for around 1,089,000 won, which translates into approximately US$1000.

It remains to be seen if Galaxy Round will carry this price over to the U.S., if and when it launches here. Given the fact that this smartphone has a 5.7 inch full HD curved Super Flexible AMOLED display, its not like Samsung would have priced it relative to the usual crop of smartphones. Apart from the curved display, which is without a doubt its selling point, the Galaxy Round has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, a 2,800mAh battery, microSD card slot, Android 4.3 and a lot more. Galaxy Round will soon have a competitor in the curved display arena, LG is reportedly prepping its own smartphone with a flexible display, renders of which were leaked just yesterday.

The iKettle wants you to have a swell day

    iKettle
There’s nothing like a nice hot cup of tea in the morning. It wakes you up, gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, and preps you for the day ahead. If you are as fond of hot beverages as I am, then one cup is normally just the beginning of many to come. However, our natural laziness deters us from making it as often as we’d like.

The idea of having a butler or maid bringing you tea throughout the day is a nice one, but most certainly something we can’t afford. In our unrelenting quest to make our lives easier, we looks towards gadgets and gizmos. Sometimes they can do the work for us, or cut down on our load. While making a cup of tea isn’t necessarily a difficult task, the iKettle will make it a little more easy.

This hot pot can be controlled through an app on your phone, and can also act as a wake up call. It will send you a text in the morning asking if you’d like a cuppa, and you can program it to ask you again as you’re coming home from work. Of course, you can also turn it on pretty much any time from your phone as well, just make sure you remembered to put in plenty of water. It doesn’t have an internal element, and is made of stainless steel, so it can stand being on for a while. There are different heat setting for different types of tea or coffee, and also has an option for keeping warm. This will cost you around $160, and will likely have you drinking more tea than you ever intended to.

iPad Mini With Retina Display Reportedly Bit Thicker Due To Bigger Battery

iPad Mini With Retina Display Reportedly Bit Thicker Due To Bigger Battery

We’ve seen no shortage of rumors about the next generation iPad mini having a Retina display. This possibility has been rumored time and time again over the last few months, but nothing is known for sure as yet because Apple hasn’t confirmed anything. All we have to go on is a bunch of rumors and speculation. The latest round of speculation suggests that the upcoming iPad mini will be a bit thicker than its predecessor due to the fact that it has a bigger battery, which will provide adequate juice for the Retina display.

Macotakara, a Japanese website, interviewed iPad case makers at the China Sourcing Fair 2013 in Hong Kong. Case makers present at the trade show offer this bit of speculation, that the next iPad mini will be 7.5 millimeters thick, up from 7.2 millimeters on the existing iPad. The new iPad mini is also expected to gain 0.2 millimeters in width. Cases for the upcoming tablet also include a cut out for the rear microphone, though its not unusual for case makers to create their products prior to the official announcement of a device, so information coming from them should be taken with a grain of salt. Apple is expected to unveil the iPad mini with Retina display alongside the iPad 5 on October 22nd.
