Placekitten: Let Kitties Take the Place of Blank Spaces in Web Designs

Who doesn’t love kittens? I’m no professional web designer, but I’ve tried designing a site or two, and let me just say it involved a lot of hard work. One of the tiring aspects of web design is having to insert placeholders for designs, images, or code that aren’t ready yet.

So to make that aspect of design less of a pain and a bit more fun, Placekitten was born.

Placekittenmagnify

It’s essentially an image gallery of sorts that was created with web designers in mind. Using the site, developers, designers, and cat lovers can generate various sizes of cat and kitten images that can be used as placeholders in their designs. Just use the URL below to get started.

For example, if you want an image that’s 300×200, just type “http://placekitten.com/300/200” into your URL to get your correctly-sized kitty.

Here’s a couple of examples generated by the service:

Can You Tell These Ikea Products and Death Metal Bands Apart?

Ikea furniture names are often full of umlauts and improbable double consonants. I’ve been told that the names are Swedish—and I have no choice but to believe this, because I don’t speak Swedish. Come to think of it, they sort of resemble the names of another fantastical Scandinavian export: Death Metal.

Nexus 5 And Android 4.4 KitKat Launch Rumored For October 15th

The world anxiously waits on Google to make two announcements, one related to software and the other to hardware. Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 are both rumored to be launched in October, but according to a new rumor, they might be unveiled next week. Tuesday, October 15th, is said to be the day when Google finally lifts the wraps off Nexus 5 and its next major Android update. According to CNET UK, rumors about the launch date comes from “whispers around the campfire” at Google Launchpad, which was a two week event aimed to help startups develop their business.

Google has already confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat is the moniker of its next major update, whereas the Nexus 4 has sold out at the Play Store and Google has opted not to restock it. This is seen as a clear indication that a successor is just around the corner. We’ve already heard a lot of rumors about the Nexus 5 which is said to have been manufactured by LG, it collaborated with Google on the Nexus 4 as well. Recently a purported service manual of the Nexus 5 was leaked online, it revealed the entire spec list. This smartphone is expected to have a 2.3GHz quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, a 5 inch full HD display, 8 megapixel rear camera as well as wireless charging.

Rogers Decides To Sell The BlackBerry Z30 After All

Rogers Decides To Sell The BlackBerry Z30 After All

Last week Rogers left fellow Canadians bewildered by announcing that it would not be offering the BlackBerry Z30. The ailing smartphone manufacturer’s first phablet was announced last month, customers would have expected Rogers to carry the device seeing as how its the largest carrier in Canada which has almost always carried BlackBerry devices. Rogers said last week that it believed it could satisfy its customers’ needs for a BB device with its current lineup, but customers weren’t too happy about this decision, they were quite vocal in their disapproval of its decision.

In a statement provided to AllThingsD, the carrier confirms that it will sell the Z30 after all “in response to customers’ feedback and excitement about the device.” Rogers goes further to say that it has a “longstanding partnership with BlackBerry and continue to be big supporters of the company and its products.” Customers in Canada will no doubt be ecstatic, they’ve managed to change the mind of the country’s largest mobile carrier. Its also good for BlackBerry, seeing as how its new phablet will have crucial support of a major carrier, and we all know that the company can do with any and all unit sales that it can generate.
