Between 1923 and 1951, a diminutive Floridian single-handedly and without heavy machinery moved 1,000 tons of limestone, creating out of it a castle. This is his story.
Another downside of the Washington brouhaha is that the FCC is shut down, sending us scouring its foreign equivalents for tidbits about new hardware. The latest concerns HTC’s worst-kept secret, the HTC One Max, which has just passed through China’s TENAA. The filing reveals that the 6-inch …
Sometimes a picture can help make sense of a situation. This viz shows the proportion of government employees who are currently furloughed. It’s as grim as the rest of the shutdown news.
Now here is something that might eventually make the jump from the world of science fiction to our reality. Remember how Tony Stark and his Iron Man suits made plenty of geeks drool in the movies? Well, a real life Iron Man suit might actually be in the pipeline, as the U.S. Army has already commissioned a kind of suit known as the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS), where it is strong enough to be able to take in a barrage of bullets without the person wearing the suit ending up as a bloody mess.
The whole reason for the TALOS project was to offer its Special Operation Forces with enhanced mobility, protection and surveillance abilities. This particular suit should see a combination of nanotechnology alongside the endurance of Kevlar in order to deliver what they deem as the ultimate suit of body armor. Such an idea was more or less inspired by the work of MIT professor Gareth McKinley, who has been researching liquid armor for more than a decade already, and this liquid armor will theoretically be able to change from liquid form to solid in just milliseconds. Watch the video of the TALOS armor in action above – at least, theoretically speaking.

Many of us are so used to typing on our respective keyboards these days, that when it comes to using our very own hand to write down some notes for a loved one, it might be rather difficult to do so since our hands have for the longest time, not been writing down page after page of notes or letters. In fact, there is nothing quite like a handwritten note when it comes to thank you cards or a personal message, and we have a company known as Bond Gifts from New York that might just use technology to deliver old world charm. They have revealed a robot that will work alongside an app that will be able to move a pen back and forth, scribbling a 255-character message in cursive, making it look as though it hailed from your very own hand.
Not only that, it will be extremely neat in nature, and this was made possible thanks to a freelance font designer, Rob Leuschke, who has come up with this connective script fonts which has been carefully planned and thought out in the first place. However, Bond’s handwriting robot is more “human” than normal, since it is capable of writing each “l” differently, so that not every letter would end up looking the same as the rest of the pack. It sure as heck could have fooled me! Enjoy the video above to see how this writing robot app does wonders.

The folks over at Google have announced that they have already introduced an update to their Slides service, where it will come with a couple of new features that will go across some lengths in order to help improve the overall presentation experience. Just in case you are not too familiar with Google Slides, this is the service that will be part of Google Drive, and on the other hand, it is also the company’s answer to those who have longed for a free tool in the realm of PowerPoint when it comes to coming up with presentations.
The latest update from Google will see the introduction of new editable master slides that would enable the user to change the overall theme of their presentation, and this can be achieved through the selection of “Edit Master” from the slide menu. By doing so, you will be able to perform other tasks such as setting all of your first level bullets to bold, or even to introduce changes to the font of your header. The program right now will default to widescreen which would make churning out a presentation on a widescreen monitor a whole lot more convenient and easier. Have you given the latest Google Slides service a go already, and how do you find it so far? [Press Release]

Oculus To Hold An Event In November
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Oculus Rift has been touted to be one of the more immersive virtual reality (VR) hardware that we have laid our eyes upon over the course of this year, especially when we spent some time with it at CES earlier this year. Well, the future for VR is bright, and it is exactly this very future that will undergo a fair amount of discussion at an event that is planned for sometime early next month. This particular event will be hosted by senior engineers over at Oculus this coming November 2nd. On that particular day, Oculus COO Laird Malamed will spearhead a day-long symposium that comprises of debates as well as demonstrations of virtual reality and game development.
There will also be other scheduled sessions at the Future of Virtual Reality with Oculus VR, where among them include technical Q&A sessions, developer and employment workshops in addition to the much looked forward to hands-on time with the Oculus Rift. The venue of choice for this particular event to take place? We are looking at the Microsoft Nerd Center in Cambridge, Mass., and while entrance will remain free, one is expected to make some charitable donations to the Boston Children’s Hospital for a good cause.
