Amazon Intends To Sell 2 Million Kindle Fire HDs Before November 2013 Is Over

Amazon Intends To Sell 2 Million Kindle Fire HDs Before November 2013 Is Over In life, it is always good to have a target – after all, it keeps you going and is the reason for existing, even when all other hope is snuffed out. Of course, one would also need to learn to manage expectations, and the same can be said of corporations as well. Amazon have recently shared their confidence in selling up to 2 million Kindle Fire HD tablets before November 2013 comes to a close. This might sound like a drop in the bucket for a company like Apple with their iPad, but where a solitary Android-powered tablet is concerned, it is still an extremely impressive figure. So far, there have been no reports of increased orders for the other tablet models by Amazon.

I suppose Amazon has good reason to be optimistic about the Kindle Fire HD, after all, it has been priced at a very competitive $139 and $169 for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively. Not only that, they have received an overhaul in the design as well as hardware department, targeting the 7” entry-level tablet market. Do you think that Amazon will be able to meet their sales target before the Yuletide month kicks in? Only time will be able to tell, so all we need to do is sit tight and wait.

Windows Phone 8.1 Rumored To Drop Support For Hardware Back Button

Windows Phone 8.1 Rumored To Drop Support For Hardware Back Button

The back button in Windows Phone devices is there to allow users who want to go back to other applications with ease, though if a new rumor is true, future devices might do away with this button altogether. Paul Thurrott, a man believed to have insights into Microsoft’s work, has heard from a single source that the support for a hardware back button will be eliminated in WIndows Phone 8.1. This particular WP update is expected to be released next year.

It is not known how multitasking will work in Windows Phone 8.1, given the fact that the back button is also used to bring up the multitasking user interface. Microsoft is expected to tweak the multitasking experience in Windows Phone 8.1, so its possible that it might devise a completely new way of bringing up the interface. This update is also expected to bring support for devices that have displays up to 10 inches. The current Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update brings support for devices with 5 and 6 inch displays, going by this rumor, it appears that Windows Phone 8.1 will up the ante. The company is also rumored to be creating a universal binary for apps, which would mean that developers won’t have to make separate apps for Windows Phone and Windows RT, a single app will be able to run on both platforms. This is in line with recent rumors which suggest that Microsoft might merge Windows RT and WIndows Phone over the next two years. Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to release for existing devices in spring next year.

Lea Michele: ‘Glee’ Tribute Episode To Finn Was ‘Therapeutic’

Lea Michele opened up about the “Glee” tribute episode dedicated to the late Cory Monteith and his character Finn Hudson.

“For me personally, I’ve lost two people: Cory and Finn,” Michele told TV Week Australia. “We had a beautiful memorial for Cory in the auditorium and some of the cast members sang and people spoke about him. It only felt right that we would do the same thing for Finn, so I felt it was very therapeutic.”

The episode, titled “The Quarterback,” will feature the “Glee” characters dealing with Finn’s death. Following Monteith’s death, “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy said he struggled with how to move forward and even toyed with ending “Glee” entirely. However, Michele told him they should carry on and the tribute episode took shape. Michele said they did an episode “because it was something we all needed to do together.”

1960s Hair Icons Who Taught Us Everything About Big Hair

When newly elected President John F. Kennedy took office in 1961 with his radical ideals for social reform, all eyes were on The White House. But it wouldn’t be long before his wife, Jackie Kennedy, would steal the spotlight thanks to her designer threads and signature bouffant.

Jackie’s super-teased hair — whether styled into a flipped-up bob or brushed back into a shoulder-skimming ‘do — embodied grace and glamour. Naturally, it became a highly-requested look at salons all across America.

’60s film actresses like Jane Fonda and Raquel Welch also made big hair popular. Meanwhile, style icons Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot showed us how to add flirty and feminine touches to the bouffant with ribbons and headbands. And with the right amount of hairspray, backcombing and bobby pins, the bouffant could easily be achieve by women with short or long lengths, bangs and even curlier textures.

These College Students Are Doing Something To Stop Sexual Assault

There were at least 48 reports of college students being sexually assaulted in the month of September, according to an informal survey of news articles by The Huffington Post.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the true number is probably much higher, because these were only the assaults reported to campus authorities and then picked up by local news media. A 2000 report from the National Institute of Justice indicated roughly 1-in-5 women will experience sexual violence during their collegiate career, a majority of the time among acquaintances, but fewer than 5 percent get reported to police.

The good news is some students are trying to change the culture on campuses nationwide.

China Jails Seller Of ‘Cooking Oil’ That’s Really Just Gutter Waste In Latest Food Safety Scandal

SHANGHAI, Oct 9 (Reuters) – A Chinese court on Wednesday jailed one man for life and sentenced more than a dozen to up to 15 years in jail for producing and selling cooking oil made from gutter waste, the latest food safety scandal to fuel public mistrust.

The Intermediate People’s Court in the city of Lianyungang, 480 km (530 miles) north of Shanghai, found the defendants guilty of making and trafficking in the “poisonous, harmful” oil between January 2011 and March 2012, it said on its website (www.lygfy.gov.cn).

The product, made from waste oil and “meat-product waste”, known in China as “gutter oil”, was sold to processors in at least four provinces or provincial-level cities, including Beijing, it said. In 2011 and 2012 Wang’s company, Kangrun, made more than 60 million yuan ($9.80 million) selling the oil.

Food safety is a highly emotive issue in China where there have been numerous scandals in recent years, from photos of food oil being scooped from drains to tales of phoney eggs and poison milk powder. ($1 = 6.1211 yuan) (Reporting by John Ruwitch; Editing by Nick Macfie)

Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia SP, To Receive Android 4.4 KitKat (Rumor)

Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia SP, To Receive Android 4.4 KitKat (Rumor)When it comes to owning a Nexus-branded device, one of the best things about it would be the introduction of a new operating system update each time it hits the market. Well, without a doubt we will see Android 4.4 KitKat arrive with the LG Nexus 5, but here we are with word that the Android 4.3 operating system update will most likely arrive on the Xperia Z1 smartphone this coming November, as the latest version of Android will arrive on that month as well. As of today, we do know that the Xperia Z1 is running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which means it would make plenty of sense for this rumor to actually take root.

According to a leaked document from French mobile carrier Free, it seems that the Xperia SP too, will be on the receiving end of an Android operating system update – in fact, it will also pick up Android 4. Jelly Bean along the way sometime this coming December, as other smartphones from Sony, too, are tipped to receive this particular operating system update afterwards. Right now, the Xperia SP still remains “stuck” on Android 4.1, so it would be a classic version jump in this case. Can you wait for it to arrive?
