iPhone 6 5-Inch Display Will Reportedly Be Optimized For One Hand Use

iPhone 6 5 Inch Display Will Reportedly Be Optimized For One Hand Use

It is widely believed that the next generation iPhone will come with a larger display. Apple currently uses a 4 inch display for the iPhone, which was first introduced with the iPhone 5. All iPhones before that had a 3.5 inch display. The next smartphone’s display is believed to go as high as 5 inches, and Japanese magazine Mac Fan claims that Apple might optimize it for one hand use. Most smartphones that have displays of this size require one dedicated hand to hold them, meaning that its hard for the user to do much with just one hand.

The magazine claims that Apple might make the side bezels on iPhone 6 “as thin as possible,” to overcome the need for two hands. It is said to borrow design cues from the iPad mini and the iPad Air. The next generation iPhone, widely known as the iPhone 6, is also expected to come with major design changes. Apple has kept the design of its smartphone largely the same for the past couple of years, this is expected to change with the next generation model. Thin bezels would mean that the possibility of accidental taps will increase, but Apple already uses technology in the iPad mini that lets users rest their hands without registering them as gestures or taps. So can it be said for sure that the next iPhone has a 5 inch display? Absolutely not. There have been reports that the company is testing prototypes with various display sizes, but there’s no concrete proof that 5 inches is going to be the magic number.

This navigational canes isthe work of Dr. Cang Ye, a roboticist at the University at Arkansas at Little Rock and the engineering team that developed it. It is called the Co-Robotic Cane (CRC for short). It has a camera and laser detection as well as a ranging system that can spot objects in its user’s path. If something is in the way, it warns the user through the earpiece. One of the most innovative features is the roller tip on the end, which moves, guiding you toward a useful direction and out of the way of objstacles.

Dr. Ye thinks that the cane will be a great advance in navigational aids for the visually impaired. It certainly beats using an ordinary cane.

Did the 'War of the Worlds' Radio Broadcast Really Cause Mass Panic?

Tonight, PBS airs a documentary about Orson Welles’ infamous 1938 War of the Worlds radio broadcast and the resulting hysteria that swept America. The only problem? Many scholars contend that the program didn’t actually cause mass panic at all.

Updated Google Glass Units Being Released For ‘Explorers’ Later This Year

Updated Google Glass Units Being Released For Explorers Later This Year

Google Glass units have only been provided to a select few people called “Explorers,” who have been testing it out for quite some time now. Google has continued to refine the software with its monthly Glass updates, but it has now announced that updates to the hardware have also been made. Existing Glass Explorers will be able to “swap out” their existing units for new ones later this year. It hasn’t been clarified if Explorers will have to pay for these updated Glass units.

The company says that these hardware updates make Glass compatible with “future lines of shades and prescription frames,” which would look somewhat like the modified Google Glass attached to shades that we saw recently. The second edition of Google Glass also includes a mono earbud, which will replace the bone conduction speaker found in the existing version. Google has also said that Explorers will receive three invites to give out to the Google Glass program in the coming weeks. They can invite three people to join the program who can then purchase their own Glass unit online for $1,500. No word as yet on the public release of Google Glass, it is expected to be released sometime next year.

    Real-Time Tab Previews in Firefox

This article was written on September 14, 2007 by CyberNet.

Tab Scope Firefox Extension I just came across a Firefox extension that is one of the coolest I’ve seen in quite awhile. It’s called Tab Scope and it brings real-time tab previews to the Firefox browser. Well, it’s actually a step beyond just a preview because you can fully interact with the page (click links, scroll, etc…).

After using this for just 10-minutes I feel that it has made me more productive, and I now consider it to be a must-have extension. Here are the features that Tab Scope brings to the table:

    • Real-time tab previews of the page contents — you can watch the page load right from the preview!
    • Navigate (Back/Forward/Reload/Stop) directly through the tab preview
    • Scroll pages or frames in preview with mouse wheel
    • Use the magnifying glass to enlarge the tab preview for easier navigation
    • Click links or buttons directly in preview

In the options you can configure things such as the size for the tab preview for both before and after you click the magnifying glass. Depending on the preview size that you choose this can drastically keep you from switching back and forth between tabs! Throw on the ReloadEvery extension and you’ve got a killer combination!
