Google Helpouts Launch Expected On November 5th

Google Helpouts Launch Expected On November 5th

Google announced a new service back in August this year called Google Helpouts. Its much like Hangouts, which brings together many of Google’s previous fragmented communication services. Users can send images, chat or initiate a video or voice call from within Hangouts, but what if users want some expert help with the same ease of use? That’s where Helpouts comes in, it connects experts with people who need their expertise. The service hasn’t been publicly launched as yet, but a new rumor suggests that the service might finally be launched on November 5th.

The folks at AndroidPolice have received a screenshot of a notification that was reportedly sent only to those few who have had their Hangouts approved, they say it comes in from a “trusted source,” which claims that the service goes like on November 5th. The select few who have received this notification have been provided private access to the Hangouts website so that they can set things up prior to the public launch. Google is still allowing people to request access to Helpouts, but with the public launch believed to be a few days away, it would just be best to wait for Helpouts to officially drop. Google hasn’t confirmed if the launch indeed takes place on November 5th.

BBM On Android And iPhone Adds 20 Million Users In First Week

BBM On Android And iPhone Adds 20 Million Users In First Week

Earlier this year BlackBerry announced that it would finally be opening up BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, to Android and iPhone. The launch finally took place last week, after the initial roll out encountered a number of issues. The BBM app instantly became popular, topping the charts on both Google Play Store and the App Store. BlackBerry has now revealed the official user stats, announcing that 20 million new BBM users have been added in the past week alone. The launch on Android and iOS brings the total number of BBM users to 80 million, 60 million of them being on BlackBerry devices.

The company reveals that BBM was the top free overall app in 35 countries on Google Play and 107 countries in the App Store. Markets where BBM continues to maintain a strong position include Canada, UK, the U.S., Middle East and Indonesia among others. The company also highlights its new sharing tool at www.bbm.com/share, which allows users to quickly add new contacts to BBM. There’s also a new way to share PIN with people you want to add on BBM through www.pin.bbm.com. BlackBerry says that it still has a “few more tricks” up its sleeve which will be shared in the coming months as the company adds even more features to BBM on Android and iPhone. Voice and video chats are just two of the features that have already been confirmed.

Cell phone takes bullet for gas station clerk

    A direct hit.

    (Credit: Winter Garden Police)

Engineers delight in putting pens in their shirt pockets.

For gas station clerks, however, the location of your cell phone in your shirt pocket could save your life.

This seemed to be the case at a Winter Garden, Fla., Hess gas station, which was subject to a holdup.

As WFTV reports it, a man walked in, demanded the safe be opened, and brandished a gun. Two clerks tried to open the safe, but failed. The robber took off, but not before turning and firing at one of the clerks.

As WESH-TV reports, when the police arrived, one of the clerks complained of chest pain. A touch of angina? No, a bullet to his HTC.

Five Ancient Cannons Were Just Rescued From Blackbeard's Sunken Ship

Flying R/C Quadcopter Ghost Will Scare the Bejeezus out of Trick-or-Treaters

The flying R/C quadcopter ghost made by Alton Porter is so awesome that it’s almost cruel to the people who might come across it this Halloween. It was built with the intention of freaking out trick-or-treaters, which I’m sure it will be able to do.

    RC Quadcopter Ghost 620x399magnify

Alton’s robotic ghost has glowing eyes embedded into it for that extra creepy factor. Imagine the sheer terror of trick-or-treaters when they notice this thing hovering towards them after pressing Alton’s doorbell.

If you have a quadcopter of your own, then you might want to take a cue from Alton and dress yours up in ghostly garb, too, so you can hand out your own scares when the trick-or-treaters come a-knocking.
