Healthcare has been making headlines for the past few weeks—less because of a sudden interest in good health and more because of the government’s recent glitch-tastic bummer of a website launch.
Download Portable Flock 0.7.1 Here
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis article was written on July 14, 2006 by CyberNet.

It was about one-week ago when I posted an article regarding the PhotoBucket Flock and Max had a very good question. He wondered if there was any way that I could make a Portable Flock and that got me thinking. Flock is based off of Firefox so I saw no reason why I shouldn’t be able to get Flock to work with it.
I want to start by saying that this whole thing wouldn’t be possible without the great work that John Haller has done on Portable Firefox. I watch his news quite closely and his newest version of Portable Firefox, when it gets released, will have the ability to update itself. Right now Portable Firefox cannot download the partial updates but that will soon be a thing of the past. So I just wanted to say thanks to John for making this Portable Flock possible!
It took a little editing and very small code modifications (because John designed Portable Firefox so well that it was easy to modify) but I got it to work. Now I don’t use Flock on a daily basis so I am not sure about the stability but it should satisfy the needs of most people out there. I will admit that when Flock first came out I never gave it much of a chance, but after creating this Portable version and using it for a few hours I have to say it is extremely sweet! In one of my posts Ryan Williams and I were having a discussion about integrated feed readers and how great Firefox would be if it had one. Well, he was definitely right when he said “Flock is a great example of how RSS can work beautifully in a browser”. So that more people can see just how nice the RSS reader is I put this Portable version together. You can now try it out and see if it is really right for your purposes without even needing to install it. Heck, you can even throw this on your USB drive and carry it with you which would be like having Flock-On-The-Go 😀 .
These are the instructions that you need to use the Portable Flock. All you have to do is download the Portable Flock file below. Then you unzip the file and browse for the file PortableFlock.exe. Just execute that file and you will be running Flock! The profile is kept with the PortableFlock folder so you don’t have to worry about messing up your other profile and the uninstallation process is simple…just delete the folder!
I know that John Haller has run into trademark issues in the past with Mozilla, and if Flock contacts me to remove this file I will gladly do so. I can only imagine that it would help them out because they will receive their revenue from the search bar and this might increase the number of users. Also, I normally ZIP up the files but when I zipped up the file it was still over 10MB! To bring the size down I compressed it using RAR which brought it down to 8.32MB, man what a difference.
Okay, you can download it now:

When it comes to convincing smokers to quit, warning of health dangers is commonplace… but appealing to smokers’ vanity might be equally effective. So what exactly are the cosmetic claims against cigarette smoke?
We spoke to Dr. Milton Moore, a Houston-based dermatologist, and dermatologist Dr. Dina Yaghmai, Co-Director of the Physicians Laser and Dermatology Institute in Chicago, to find out just what this addictive habit is doing to our skin. Spoiler alert: The answer’s just as bad as you thought.
Yes, cigarettes do cause your skin to age faster…

DENVER (AP) — A boycott by hunters opposed to Colorado’s new laws meant to curtail gun violence has failed to materialize.

It’s that dreaded time of year again when the food you sit down to at dinner looks more put together and capable than you ever have in your entire life. It’s cold comfort that we get to eat all those Thanksgiving turkeys and sides; every bite is just another reminder that we never got our master’s degree or went to Prague.
We’d say just avoid the whole thing and go vegan for the day, but the only thing judgier than a roasted gobbler is a nut loaf.
So in honor of this yearly stock-take – and to hopefully cushion the blow come Thursday – here are 17 turkeys who think they’re better than you.

Lately we have been hearing a lot of rumors about a larger iPad that Apple is reportedly testing at this point in time. Prototype of this larger iPad is said to be at Foxconn’s testing facilities in China, though it is unclear when the company intends to start production. The device is believed to tout a 12.9 inch display, but not much is known about its specifications apart from the display size. Initially believed to come out in early 2014, latest rumors suggest that the larger iPad might not make its way to the market until the second have of next year.
The rumor comes courtesy of Taiwanese trade publication Digitimes, which claims to have heard from supply chain sources that Quanta Computer has received orders to mass product the 12.9 inch Apple iPad in the second half of 2014. The sources also claim that manufacturers like Foxconn, Inventec and Quanta are lobbying Apple to receive orders for iWatch production. Quanta will reportedly be in charge of manufacturing the larger iPad, but it is expected to face a number of challenges during the manufacturing process related to industrial design and assembly. According to the sources, the larger iPad might be geared towards education and enterprise markets. Apple, as always, has chosen not to comment on speculation about its future products.

UPP, or Unilateral Pricing Policy, is a way for TV manufacturers to force retailers to keep manufacturer-specified pricing. As in no crazy discounts to move stock, no doorbuster deals, and no (let’s be honest here) price competition. The price is the price is the price. Break that price, and you risk that company banning you from selling their products.
Shockingly, this is legal. Read on for more info.
UPP isn’t exactly new. Apple and Bose have been doing it for years. Last year, Samsung, Sharp, LG, and Sony started doing it with TVs. What this means is if you’re shopping for a new TV, there’s little point in checking Best Buy, Sears, and your local electronics chain. Save your gas, as chances are they’re all going to have the same price (on most TVs from those brands). The 800-pound gorilla of retail, Amazon, is one of the main reasons manufacturers adopted UPP. So now Amazon and Best Buy (and other retailers) all have the same pricing
How is this legal? Good question. My lawerin’ skills are limited to one class I mostly slept through in college and “Law & Order” reruns, but here’s what I turned up. While outright price fixing is illegal, a company can do business (or not) with whomever they choose. So when a company says, “The UPP on this TV is $1,000” what they’re really saying is “If you charge less th… [Read more]
