Steve Stockman’s Financial Dealings Are A Complete Mystery, Report Shows

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) has failed to properly disclose his financial dealings as both a candidate and a congressman, the Houston Chronicle reported on Sunday.

A continuing investigation of the representative’s campaign finances shows that Stockman has failed to file federally required expense documents since his 2012 campaign; those that he did file were months late and only prompted more questions.

“Presidential Trust Marketing,” the business to which Stockman attributed his income in belated reports of his 2012 candidacy, was not listed in any public records, the Chronicle said.

Something About STEM Drives Women Out

Just when the nation has a need for more workers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields, research at Cornell and the University of Texas, Austin, finds that women have often found those fields inhospitable, and left for other kinds of jobs.

In the first study to compare women in STEM with other professional women, Sharon Sassler, professor of policy analysis and management, and colleagues found that women in STEM fields have been more likely to move out of their field of specialty than other professional women, especially early in their careers; few women in either group completely leave the labor force. Their report, “What’s So Special About STEM?” will appear in the December issue of the journal Social Forces.

Zune Games Should be Coming your Way

This article was written on March 12, 2007 by CyberNet.

ZunegamesBack at CES in January, Microsoft’s Peter Moore announced that Zune games would be coming. In fact, they would be coming within 18 months. Thus far, Zune sales haven’t exactly been anything to write home about, but those that have made the purchase give the impression that they are satisfied.

If Microsoft managed to come up with amazing games for the Zune, it could potentially help out their sales.  So far I’ve heard it being compared to the Playstation Portable. While that may be a far stretch, anything is possible. If they went as far as integrating it with Xbox Live, that would definitely give them a boost.

As ‘I Started Something’ points out, Microsoft does mean serious business when it comes to video gaming capabilities, and hopefully the team in charge of developing these games can get a lot done in 18 months.  Back in January around the same time that Peter Moore made the announcement, Microsoft posted a job under the title of “Software Development Engineer in Test.”

The job description clearly explains that you would join the “Zune effort and help build the next generation of portable digital entertainment. Be a part of this start-up team which will reshape the way people engage with their games, music, and videos.”

Another job posting more recently is calling for a Branding Manager that would be responsible for “managing and developing Zune into a world-class entertainment brand.” It poses this scenario to possible applicants:

“Imagine if you could connect to your entertainment wherever you are, on the TV, on your portable media device, on your mobile phone, your Xbox or at the PC– your entertainment at your fingertips.”

If they were able to take what they have imagined and turned it into something real, they’d probably be sweeping up sales like crazy. “If” is the key word, however. Anybody up for Halo on the Zune?

Science, Engineering Degrees Grew Twice As Fast As Others, Report Says

Efforts to encourage students to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics degrees may be starting to sink into students’ minds, according to new data released by the National Student Clearinghouse.

The organization’s research center found that in the last five years, bachelor’s degree completions for science and engineering disciplines grew nearly twice as fast as others. Between 2009 and 2013, science and engineering degrees grew by 19 percent, compared to a 9 percent growth among other disciplines. The NSC’s research center analyzed the growth of these degrees in two reports released Monday, one by gender and another by age.

Katy Perry’s AMAs Performance Of ‘Unconditionally’ Sparks Controversy

“Was Katy Perry’s AMAs performance racist?” read the headline on Comsopolitan.com, following Perry’s American Music Awards appearance on Sunday night. The 29-year-old singer performed her new single “Unconditionally” on the awards show while dressed in what Billboard.com described as “geisha-inspired clothing.” The outfit and stage design prompted Vulture’s Jesse David Fox to compare Perry’s presentation to Miley Cyrus’ oft-criticized MTV Video Music Awards spectacle from back in August. There were also tweets, like this one:

American Music Awards Red Carpet 2013 Is… Interesting (PHOTOS)

The Oscars they were not.

The American Music Awards hit Los Angeles on Sunday night and brought with them a slew of loud, statement-making dresses. Jennifer Hudson tried out a bright orange “mullet dress” by Christian Dior, while Heidi Klum vamped it up in an intricate black lace cutout fringe gown by Marchesa.

Ke$ha’s dress was a toned-down black, but the thigh-high cutaway plus her pastel hair kept things, um, interesting. Rihanna went with a two-piece black number by Jean Paul Gaultier Couture, complete with a strapless bikini-like top and a sheer-bottomed skirt. Even Zoe Saldana’s Roland Mouret dress was rather adventurous for her, with a pale blue ribbon down the side and two-toned patchwork print. And Taylor Swift? Well, her dress was gold, glittery and short, and it boasted a cutout (covered, but still) on top. Guess she knew Harry Styles was going to be in the audience…
