Which means the fights over gadgets at Walmart did too.

The Best Places To Buy Locally-Made Chicago Art And Decor To Spruce Up Your Home

Just like wardrobes and haircuts, home decor is in need of a refreshing from time to time.

Adding a fresh dose of dimension can be achieved with even the smallest of details — think a hip pair of throw pillows, an interesting vase or an unexpected piece of art — and can do wonders for punching up tired decor.

Instead of heading to big box retailers, however, take advantage of living in a city packed with talented artists and snap up something local for your home. You can give local makers a boost and flaunt your Windy City pride at the same time when you spring for locally-made goods.

Olympic Flame Sets Russian Torchbearer’s Jacket On Fire In Latest Relay Mishap (VIDEO)

MOSCOW (Reuters) – In the latest mishap to befall the Olympic flame, a Russian torchbearer’s clothing caught fire this week as he carried it through a Siberian city.

A clip posted on YouTube by the Russian site Lifenews shows former Olympic bobsledder Pyotr Makarchuk parading the torch through a crowd in the city of Abakan when flames suddenly leap from the left shoulder and upper arm of his jacket.

Escorts immediately put out the flames and Makarchuk was not injured, said Roman Osin, spokesman for the Russian Sochi 2014 torch relay, who witnessed the incident on Wednesday.

The flames were caused by drops of liquid gas that fell on Makarchuk’s jacket, he said.

Russia is conducting the longest torch relay before any Winter Games: a four-month, 65,000-km (40,000 mile) journey that will end at the opening ceremony in Sochi on February 7.

The Olympic flame has been to the north pole and Lake Baikal, and cosmonauts took an unlit torch on a spacewalk last month outside the International Space Station.

But the torch has gone out dozens of times, including an incident minutes after President Vladimir Putin handed it off in Red Square on October 6. At other times it has burned too fiercely.

Osin said nobody has been injured by the torch. He declined to say how many times it has gone out.

David Mamet: Obama Is A ‘Tyrant’

Oscar-nominated filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet has spent the past several years separating himself from Hollywood liberalism. In 2008, he penned a Village Voice essay titled “Why I Am No Longer a Brain-Dead Liberal.” Earlier this year, he voiced his anti-gun control sentiments in a Newsweek piece. Now, Mamet has slammed President Barack Obama with a rather harsh label.

“He’s a tyrant,” Mamet said during an appearance on “The Hugh Hewitt Show.” “And I give him great credit. He’s always said that his idea was to reform the United States. And, you know, like many tyrants, like Wilson and like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, he believes that his way is the right way and that he’s going to implement his vision of the world, and many agree with him. And he’s acting in concert with his conscience. And I applaud him for that. I just disagree with everything he’s done.”

Mamet’s sentiments are, of course, in good company, even among the liberal-heavy entertainment industry. Matt Damon (“Imagine if they had a leader”), James Woods (“This president is a true abomination”) and director Oliver Stone (“Obama is a snake”) are among the celebrities who’ve spoken out against Obama in recent months.

Solar Power Gets Massive Boost In Connecticut As States Continue To Support Green Energy Push

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) — As Connecticut pushes aggressively to expand solar energy to homes across the state, few supporters are more enthusiastic than Eugene DeJoannis.

The retired mechanical engineer from Manchester has long been a booster of green energy and boasts a keen interest in home energy issues. He’s now serving as a volunteer solar ambassador promoting a state program that subsidizes home solar projects and urges homeowners to participate.

“I have a personal fascination with the residential energy picture,” DeJoannis said. “Whenever we go to church, I invariably take out my literature and display it there.”

Try Out Web Store Apps Without Any Installation

Try Out Web Store Apps Without Any InstallationIt is every intention of any parent to want to see their little one grow up and succeed in life, and I guess that the same can be said for any software or hardware company to see their apps and devices be hugely successful on the market. Well, Google for one, has every intention to see Chrome apps fly, and the Internet search giant has done its fair bit in the past by throwing in better notifications, in-app payments for that added touch of convenience, and an app launcher in the browser, among others. The latest which we have heard is this – Google is looking to work on a way for the curious to try out Web Store apps without the need for any installation.

A couple of separate components are involved here, where ephemeral apps would allow you to give a Chrome app a go prior to installation, while linkable ephemeral apps would let you launch those apps directly from a hyperlink, now how about that? This would certainly make life a whole lot easier for those who do not want to go through messy installation procedures for sure. After all, only if you really want that particular app badly after giving it a go, do you go right ahead and install it for sure.

Alcatel Idol X+ To Be Accompanied By Smart Devices?

Alcatel Idol X+ To Be Accompanied By Smart Devices? The Alcatel Idol X+ from TCL is said to be well on its way, especially since we have spotted an alleged leaked image of it just a few days ago. Assuming that it is well on its way to being announced, chances are also pretty good that it will be accompanied by a smartwatch as well as a smart bracelet. Just how do we know about this? Apparently, the Chinese website MTKSJ does seem to have put up a teaser image of the soon-to-arrive Alcatel Idol X+ announcement, with the image above showing “1 + 1 > 2?”. Just in case that is not obvious enough a clue, the smartphone was also accompanied by a smartwatch (or just a regular timepiece, who knows?) as well as what could very well be a smart bracelet of sorts.

Just to refresh our memories, the new Alcatel Idol X+ ought to arrive with a 5” Full HD display, a 13-megapixel shooter at the back, 2GB RAM, as well as 16GB of internal memory – with Android running on it, of course. As for the alleged smartwatch, it should in all probability be Android powered, and we could very well be looking at something along the lines of a clone Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Gear team up here.

This Massive Steel Structure Will Entomb Chernobyl's Reactor 4

When an unexpected power surge sparked the world’s worst nuclear accident in Chernobyl, nearly a quarter of a million construction workers risked their lives to build an ad hoc "sarcophagus" of concrete around the stricken reactor. It was a stop-gap measure—and now, almost 3o years later, one of the biggest engineering projects in history is underway to protect it.

Killzone Shadow Fall Patch 1.05 Makes Changes To Single Player Campaign

Killzone Shadow Fall Patch 1.05 Makes Changes To Single Player CampaignIf you are an avid fan of Killzone Shadow Fall just as it is, you might not want to download and install any more patches. After all, why bother to change a winning formula? It is just not done for sure, and you know what they say about something not being broke – there is absolutely no point at all in fixing it. Well, for those who think that Killzone Shadow Fall might be a better game when it has the latest patches installed, you might want to keep a keen eye out for patch 1.05, as that is the patch which will see tweaks introduced to the single player campaign in addition to throwing in left-handed support, news that is sure to keep southpaws more than happy.

Needless to say, just like any other self respecting patch or update, this particular patch 1.05 of Killzone Shadow Fall will also come with it its fair share of bug fixes. Apart from the option to support left-handed players, this patch will also shorten the sequences that are found in the single-player campaign. Do bear in mind that left-handed support would only affect the analog sticks, so the shoulder buttons as well as the triggers would remain untouched. Other than that, the end section of single-player campaign chapter 7, “Secure the Target”, has also been edited to be shorter after receiving player feedback. Do bear in mind that patch 1.05 will download and install automatically. [Press Release]
