Holiday Shopping Season Kicks Off Early Despite Protests

Black Thursday officially took over.

The holiday shopping season kicked off much earlier this year, as at least a dozen national retail chains from Macy’s to Gap to Target opened their stores on Thanksgiving Day. The holiday openings came despite planned protests from workers’ rights groups that are opposed to employees working on the holiday instead of spending the day with family.

The Scene Inside The Macy’s Flagship On Thanksgiving Was Completely Insane

It’s quiet inside Macy’s gargantuan flagship store in Manhattan’s Herald Square, a half hour before the doors are set to open for the much-hyped annual shopping frenzy known as Black Friday.

Of course, it’s not actually Friday. It’s Thursday night. It’s still Thanksgiving.

No matter. Lines snake out from each of the store’s many entrances, hugging its exterior walls and curling around the block. Shoppers huddle together in the 32-degree chill, largely outfitted in puffy black coats and scarves wrapped around their necks. A New York Police Department van sits nearby, a half-dozen officers watching over the scene with semi-automatic rifles in hand. The largest crowd lingers outside the main entrance on Broadway, corralled in barricades so they don’t spill out too far into the square. TV crews scamper around, documenting the scene.

Bishop Dresses As Homeless Man To Teach Lesson

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) — Members of a Mormon congregation in a Salt Lake City suburb were greeted by someone they thought was a homeless man at church on Sunday. What they did not know was that the man was a bishop for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

At least five people asked David Musselman to leave the church property in Taylorsville, some gave him money and most were indifferent to his presence. Musselman tells the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/1aYkBtP ) he disguised himself to teach his congregation about compassion.

Australia, New Zealand PS4 Launch Sees Couple Of PSN Features Disabled Temporarily

Australia, New Zealand PS4 Launch Sees Couple Of PSN Features Disabled TemporarilyWe did bring you news earlier on that Sony has already taken the step to disable certain PSN (PlayStation Network) features at launch over in Europe when the PS4 arrives, so that it will be a relatively smooth launch without running into any hiccups. Well, it seems that the PS4 launch in Europe alone will not see the turning off of such features, as folks who happen to live in Australia and New Zealand, too, will be on the receiving end of such “preventive” treatment. After all, isn’t it better to make sure that nothing untoward happens by treading a cautious path, rather than to be gung-ho about it and having to deal with firefighting tasks later?

Of course, the two features on PSN that will be disabled would be the What’s New and content info sections, and needless to say, Sony has guaranteed that once the launch day frenzy is over (or perhaps slightly more than that), all activity will resume as normal, as though nothing had happened between now and them. Sony is also pretty sure that turning off these PSN features will not have a negative impact on gameplay where multiplayer and other core features are concerned, but do take note that something like this is set to happen.
