Yahoo Mail Updated To Bring Tabs Back

Yahoo Mail Updated To Bring Tabs Back

Back in October Yahoo unveiled a major redesign of Yahoo Mail, its free email service that has over 100 million daily users. Tabs was a feature that was removed in the redesign, because according to the company, tabs confused the users who found them difficult to manage if multiple tabs were opened at any given point in time. So to make multitasking easier, Yahoo replaced them with a Recent view which makes jumping between emails, drafts and search results much more easy. However, Yahoo just published a blog post announcing that tabs have been brought back from the dead, and that they’re a bit smarter this time.

To turn on tabs, Yahoo Mail users need to go to View, Multitasking and click on Tabs. Emails being composed, calendar, contacts and emails being read will all be shown as individual tabs, double clicking on an email in preview pane will open it in a new tab. In the tabs menu, there’s a new option called Preview All which lets Yahoo Mail users see all of the tabs open in grid view which is reminiscent of Apple Exposé. Users now have the option to stick with Recent view if they never liked tabs in the first place, or they can get smarter tabs if they missed them when Yahoo took away tabs.

British Airways Now Lets Passengers Use Electronic Devices Gate To Gate

British Airways Now Lets Passengers Use Electronic Devices Gate To Gate

It took a long time, but a couple of weeks back the Federal Aviation Authority finally lifted the rules on use of personal electronic devices during certain stages of the flight such as taxiing, takeoff and landing. A number of major U.S. airlines have already adopted the new rules, allowing passengers to use their devices from gate to gate, provided that they’re on airplane mode. The European Aviation Safety Agency made a similar announcement and Scandinavian Airlines was first to adopt the new rules. Now British Airlines embraces them.

Passengers travelling on BA can now use their iPads, Kindles, e-readers and other electronic devices during all stages of the flight without being told by the crew to turn them off. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the UK, the relaxed regulations don’t include laptops, so passengers must not expect to be able to fire up their laptops the moment they take their seats. The CAA doesn’t allow in-flight texting or calling, whereas the FCC is currently looking into allowing voice calls during flights. A number of airlines have already hinted that they’ll probably not adopt relaxation in in-flight voice call regulations, yesterday Delta CEO made it clear that at least the airline won’t adopt the rules, if they are relaxed, under his watch.

Samsung 105-Inch Curved UHD TV Heads For CES 2014

Samsung 105 Inch Curved UHD TV Heads For CES 2014Earlier yesterday, we did talk up what LG is about to showcase at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, and the topic of a 105-inch Curved Ultra HD TV cropped up. Samsung does not want to be outdone by their domestic rival, that is for sure, and they too, have dropped an announcement that at CES next year, they too, will have a curved 105-inch Ultra HD TV. Somehow, both of their respective press releases tout that their offerings are the “world’s first”, so I will let them duke it out between themselves as to who is right and who is not. The more important thing is, with both giants in the TV industry setting such a precedent, surely we are looking at a possibility of new generation curved TVs hitting the market?

Samsung’s 105-inch curved monster will be also similar to the LG counterpart in this aspect – they both show off 11 million pixels at 5120 x 2160 resolution, accompanied by a 21:9 aspect ratio. Apart from that, Samsung’s curved Ultra HD TV is said to come with their own ‘Quadmatic Picture Engine’ that delivers all content in UHD-level picture quality regardless of the source. Needless to say, pricing details have yet to be determined, but this bad boy clearly falls under the category of “if you must ask, then you can’t afford it.” [Press Release]

    Ultimate Extras are Ultimately Forgotten

This article was written on January 10, 2008 by CyberNet.

    Windows Ultimate Extras Forgotten

Long Zheng wrote a funny post yesterday regarding the forgotten Windows Vista Ultimate Extras. He wrote it in the form of a reminder email that you would receive from a service after not using it for a period of time. Here’s a snippet from the article:

This is an automated message to remind you it has been 81 days since your last activity on October 23, 2007 when you announced 19 languages packs for Windows Vista. Très Bien!

We’d like to remind you we’ve been eagerly awaiting more “cutting-edge programs”, “innovative services” and “unique publications” from you.

I’m extremely disappointed that Microsoft appears to have abandoned the Ultimate Extras that they boasted as big reason power users would love to have the most expensive version. I mean really, not having heard from the Ultimate Extras “team” in nearly 3 months can only lead us to assume that a team must not even exist.

And back in July 2007, they said this:

We also intend to deliver additional Extras in the future. In addition to Windows DreamScene and the remaining Language Packs, we plan to ship a collection of additional Windows Ultimate Extras over the next couple years that we are confident will delight our passionate Windows Vista Ultimate customers. We cannot identify dates or provide details at this time–but once we ship Windows DreamScene and the remaining Language Packs, we will provide more information about the next Extras.

Huh, they shipped DreamScene and the additional language packs three months ago, and here we sit wondering what’s going on in the world of Ultimate Extras. I thought that maybe, just maybe, they would have demonstrated a cool Ultimate Extra at CES, but they didn’t. Ah well, it’s Microsoft’s reputation on the line here. They shouldn’t have made a promise that they couldn’t hold up to.

Pinterest’s top pins of 2013 involve bacon, 3D printing

This guy is a top trending Pinterest pin from 2013.

Picture-sharing social-media site Pinterest has combed through its overload of visual archives and named the top trending pins of 2013. Mercifully, the mason-jar wedding centerpiece trend seems to have died down a bit.

There are some interesting items tucked into the various categories. For example, meatball bubble biscuits make a surprising appearance as a top recipe pin despite looking like dinosaur eggs. Judging by the sheer amount of melted cheese, chocolate, bacon, and taco cupcakes, Pinterest users aren’t too obsessed with counting calories.

The realm of technology is represented, showing a popular interest in waterproof devices, 3D printing, smartwatches (particularly the Neptune Pine), and a transparent iPad concept. An incredibly long pin showing the most popular WordPress plug-ins also made the top trending list despite a clear lack of eye-candy visuals.

Facebook’s Secondary Stock Offering To Raise Nearly $4 Billion

Facebooks Secondary Stock Offering To Raise Nearly $4 Billion

It has been a little over an year since Facebook decided to go public. After its IPO last year, the company’s stock price dipped which took quite a while to recover. These things happen in the course of running a public company, and so do secondary stock offerings. Facebook has announced today that it is going to offer nearly 70 million shares, which would raise about $4 billion. Facebook will also be joining the Standard & Poor’s 500 index.

The company itself is going to offer 27,004,761 shares of Class A common stock whereas “certain selling stockholders” are going to offer the rest, which include co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg as well, with 41,350,000 shares. The actual price of these shares is going to be determined at the market’s close today, December 19th. Facebook will be added to S&P 500 at the close of trading tomorrow, getting on this index means that there’s now a measure to view its influence on the wider financial market. Facebook hasn’t provided any details about what its going to spend the roughly $4 billion it raises on, but it does say that the money may be used for “acquisitions of complementary business, technologies or assets.” Only recently it was rumored that Facebook was interested in acquiring Snapchat, bidding a phenomenal $3 billion for it. So even if Snapchat doesn’t sell, with that kind of money, Facebook will be in a position to pick up a number of other companies.
